2 Before you begin 1. Open InDesign from the task bar. 2. Copy InDesign Basics to Desktop. 3. Talk about the program and why it s great. 4. Bring up ID_Workspace.png from the InDesign Basics to show the class the areas that will be mentioned and they should open it when they get it. Tell them to NOT open the word document in the folder. Transfer documents 1. Open Windows Explorer. 2. Navigate to Scratch > Orientation Files. 3. Copy and paste the InDesign Basics folder onto the Desktop. 4. Open Insight. 5. Click Files. 6. Click Browse in the upper right-hand corner of the dialogue box. 7. In the Look In field, choose Desktop and select InDesign Basics. 8. Click Open. 9. Select Special Folder. 10. Click Student Desktop. 11. Click Send Now. 12. Once the file has been sent to every student Desktop, click Finish 13. Confirm with the class that they all have a file on their Desktop called Insight Files. 2

3 Part 1: Document Setup InDesign Basics 1. Create a New Document 1. Ensure the workspace is set to Advanced. 2. Click File > New > Document. 3. Change the Units to Inches. 4. Set the Number of Pages to Turn Facing Pages on. 6. Change the Number of Columns to Open the Margins dropdown. 8. Change the Margins to in. 9. Click Create. 3

4 Part 2: Master Pages 1. Edit & Assign Master Pages 1. Click the Pages panel. 2. Right-click the A-Master label at the top of the Pages panel. 3. Select Master Options for A-Master. 4. Change the name to Page Number. 5. Click OK. 6. Click and drag the master page [None] to page 1 in the pages Panel. 7. Ensure A-Page Number is applied to the other pages. 4

5 Part 3: Page Numbering InDesign Basics 1. Insert Page Number 1. Double-click the A-Page Number master page. 2. Select the Type Tool from the Tools Panel. 3. Create a x inch box outside the margin in the bottom left corner of the spread. 4. Click Type > Insert Special Character > Markers > Current Page Number. 5. Highlight the A in the text box. 6. Click the align center button in the Application Bar. 2. Duplicate Page Number 1. Select the Selection Tool. 2. Hold Alt on the keyboard. 3. Click the text box and drag it to the far right margin corner on the other page to duplicate it. 5

6 Part 4: Texts and Frames 1. Place a Text Box: A-Page Number 1. Select the Type Tool from the Tools Panel. 2. Click and drag text boxes in all four columns. The text boxes should stop at the end of the column 2. Place a Rectangle Frame: Page 1 1. Open Pages Panel. 2. Double-click into Page Select the Rectangle Frame Tool from the Tools Panel. 4. Click and drag a box, covering the entire page, outside the margins. 6

7 Part 4: Texts and Frames InDesign Basics 3. Place a Rectangle Frame 1. Select the Rectangle Frame Tool from the Tools Panel. 2. Click and drag a 3x3-inch box at the bottom of the first column, inside the margin. 3. Select the Selection Tool from the Tools Panel. 4. Right click the box to copy it. 5. Paste the box in the top corner of the fourth column. 6. Click and drag a box to cover half of the page on the 4th page. There are 4 columns in total on the spread. 7

8 Part 5: Place Text and Images 1. Place Images 1. Select the Selection Tool. 2. Select the rectangle frame at the top of page Click File > Place. 4. Select Night.jpeg. 5. Click Open. 6. Right-click the image. 7. Select Fitting > Fill Frame Proportionally. 8. Right-click the image. 9. Select Display Performance > High Quality Display. 10. Repeat steps 3-9 for, in this order: Guinness-Storehouse.jpg; Page 4. Prison.jpg; Page 3. The frame is the big X. 8

9 Part 5: Place Text and Images InDesign Basics 2. Adjust Images 1. Select the Selection Tool. 2. Click the Trinity College image on page Drag the frame to align with the margin on the second column. 4. Right-click the image. 5. Select Fitting > Fill Frame Proportionally. 6. Click the double circle on the image. 7. Drag the image higher in the frame. 3. Text Wrap the Images 1. Change the Workspace to Typography. 2. Select the Trinity College image. 3. Open the Text Wrap Panel. 4. Select Wrap Around Bounding Box. 5. Change the Offset to Repeat steps 3 5 for all of the images in the document. 9

10 Part 5: Place Text and Images 4. Import Text 1. Change the Workspace back to Advanced. 2. Ensure the 1st page of the spread is selected. 3. Click File > Place 4. Navigate to the Desktop > InDesign Basics. 5. Double-click the Dublin Ireland word document. 6. Wait for the cursor to load with text. 5. Place Text 1. Click the top of the first column on page Click the Overset Text Icon at the bottom-right of the column. The cursor will fill with text again. 3. Click the top-left corner of the next column. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the Overset Text Icon does not appear. 10

11 Part 5: Place Text and Images InDesign Basics 6. Place a Text box 1. Select the Type Tool. 2. Click and drag a text box over the water, near the base of the bridge. 3. Type Explore Dublin! 4. Select the Selection Tool. 5. Click the text box. 6. Select Align Bottom in the Application Bar. 11

12 Part 6: Paragraph Styles 1. Edit Style 1. Open the Paragraph Styles Panel. 2. Right-click Normal+. 3. Select Edit Normal. 4. Select Basic Character Formats. 5. Set the following: Font Family: Calibri Size: Click OK. 7. Press Ctrl+A. 8. Right-click Normal. 9. Select Apply Normal, Clear Overrides. It might be [Basic Paragraph] for some computers. 2. Create Title Style 1. Open the Paragraph Styles Panel. 2. Click the options button. 3. Select New Paragraph Style. 4. Name this style Title. 12

13 Part 6: Paragraph Styles InDesign Basics 3. Define Style Formats 1. Select the Basic Character Formats from the sidebar. 2. Set the following: Font Family: Gill Sans MT Font Style: Bold Size: Select Character Color from the sidebar. 4. Select [Paper] from the swatches list. 5. Click OK. 4. Apply the Style 1. Double-click the text box on Page Highlight Explore Dublin!. 3. Select the Title paragraph style. 13

14 Part 6: Paragraph Styles 5. Create Heading 1 Style 1. Open the Paragraph Styles Panel. 2. Click the options button. 3. Select New Paragraph Style. 4. Name this style Heading Define Style Formats 1. Make it Based on: [No Paragraph Style]. 2. Select the Basic Character Formats from the sidebar. 3. Set the following: Font Family: Gill Sans MT Font Style: Regular Size: Select Character Color from the sidebar. 5. Select Black from the swatches list. 6. Click OK. 7. Apply Heading 1 Style 1. Select the Type Tool from the Tools Panel. 2. Highlight Brief History on Page 2 in the first column. 3. Select the Heading 1 paragraph style. 4. Apply the Heading 1 style to Things to Do, General Information, and Bibliography. 14

15 Part 6: Paragraph Styles InDesign Basics 8. Add Color 1. Highlight Brief History. 2. Double-click the Fill Tool in the Tools Panel. 3. Select the Eyedropper. 4. Select a color from the water in the cover photo. 5. Click OK. 6. Open the Paragraph Styles Panel. 7. Right-click Heading 1 style. 8. Select Redefine Style. 9. Save Swatch 1. Highlight Brief History. 2. Open the Swatches Panel. 3. Add new swatch. 15

16 Part 6: Paragraph Styles 10. Create Heading 2 Style 1. Open the Paragraph Styles Panel. 2. Click the options button. 3. Select New Paragraph Style. 4. Name this style Heading Make it Based on: Heading Define Style Formats 1. Select the Basic Character Formats from the sidebar. 2. Set the following: Font Family: Gill Sans MT Font Style: Italic Size: Click OK. 12.Apply Heading 2 Style 1. Highlight Trinity College on Page 1 in the first column. 2. Select the Heading 2 paragraph style. 3. Apply the Heading 2 style to Guinness Storehouse, Prison, Hotels, and Restaurants and Bars. 4. Navigate to Page Click the Overset Text Icon. 6. Place the text in the next column. 16

17 Part 7: Save and Export InDesign Basics 1. Save as a Working File 1. Tell students to watch these steps and that they do not need to save or export this document. 2. Explain that they should save the document as an InDesign Document (.indd or.idml) before exporting as a PDF files because they will be unable to edit their document as a PDF. 3. Click File > Save As. 4. Change the file name to InDesign Basics. 5. Change the save destination to the Desktop. 6. Click Save. 2. Export as a Finished PDF 1. Click File > Export. 2. Click Desktop so that the PDF will save to the Desktop. 3. Click Save. 4. Select View PDF After Exporting under Options. 5. Click Export. 6. The Export Adobe PDF dialog Box will close. The PDF version of the document should open automatically. 17
