Develop a District Standard for Measure G projects 3. Develop a method of sharing information within the District 4. Use the District Standard for bidding roofing projects 5. Add Preventative Maintenance piece to the District Standard in order to protect the Measure G investment 2

11 LANDSCAPE STANDARDS Landscape Standard Highlights: The design shall consider the cost of increased maintenance whenspecifying additional plants and trees on the grounds. A process for adding shrubs and trees shall be implemented to help manage the demands on the M&O staff. Flowers should be limited to avoid bees around the school grounds. Fruit trees shall not be specified. Ground cover like bark and Gorilla hair shall be avoided due to their difficulty in cleaning up after maintenance. Areas of exposed dirt should be minimized to reduce weeds and swampy areas in the winter months. 11

17 LANDSCAPE STANDARDS Maintenance and Grounds Staff Landscape Standards were created with input and collaboration ofnewark Grounds staff. As future projects are identified, Grounds Staff should be included in preliminary design reviews Grounds Staff should be present at project closeout to Receive training, as needed Review irrigation system functionality Receive keys, controller charts, remote control devices, etc. 17

18 LANDSCAPE STANDARDS In Summary, Landscape Standards: Serve as a reference to guide project designs Help implement and maintain sustainable features on a landscape plan Keep maintenance requirements to a minimum All deviations from the Standards should be approved by the District prior to implementation. Design Standards are meant to be updated as technologies, products and methodologies continue to change. 18

19 NEXT STEPS 1. Work with MOT (Tonya) to add the PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE component to the standards 2. Make the standards accessible to District staff via District wikipedia site a. Work with IT (Larry) to create this resource b. Provide a lap-top for MOT staff to access this central resource of information (no more binders on shelves) c. Implement the standards into future construction and maintenance projects 19
