Parts which do not have an item number may not be readiy identified in the iustration but are usuay cosey associated with the immediatey adjacent part. When you see this symbo, be aert to the possibiity of injury, carefuy read the message that foows, and inform other operators. 3.1 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Ensure that the instructions in this book are read and fuy understood. No person shoud be aowed to operate this machine uness they are fuy acquainted with a the contros and the safety procedures. Never aow chidren or peope unfamiiar with these instructions to usethis machine. Loca reguations may restrict the age of the operator. 3.2 SAFETY SIGNS It is essentia a safety abes are kept egibe, if they are missing or iegibe they must be repaced. If any part of the machine is repaced and it originay carried a safety abe, a new abe must be affixed to the repacement part. New safety abes are obtainabe from Ransomes deaers. 3.3 STARTING THE ENGINE Before starting the engine check that the brakes are appied, drives are in neutra, guards are in position and intact, and bystanders are cear of the machine. Do not run the engine in a buiding without adequate ventiation. 3.4 DRIVING THE MACHINE Before moving the machine, check to ensure that a parts are in good working order, paying particuar attention to brakes, tyres, steering and the security of cutting bades. Repace fauty siencers, mow ony in dayight or good artificia ight Aways observe the Highway Code both on and off the roads. Keep aert and aware at a times. Watch out for traffic when crossing or near roadways. Stop the bades rotating before crossing surfaces other than grass. Remember that some peope are deaf or bind and that chidren and animas can be unpredictabe. Keep traveing speeds ow enough for an emergency stop to be effective and safe at a times, in any conditions. Remove or avoid obstructions in the area to be cut, thus reducing the possibiity of injury to yoursef and/or bystanders. When reversing, take specia care to ensure that the area behind is cear of obstructions and/or bystanders. DO NOT carry passengers. Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsibe for accidents or hazards occurring to other peope or their property. When the machine is to be parked, stored or eft unattended, ower the cutting means uness the transport ocks are being used. Whie mowing, aways wear substantia footwear and ong trousers. Do not operate the equipment when barefoot or wearing open sandas. Check the grass catcher frequenty for wear or deterioration. After striking a foreign object. Inspect the awnmower for damage and make repairs before restarting and operating the equipment. If the machine starts to vibrate abnormay, check immediatey. 3.5 TRANSPORTING Ensure that the cutting units are securey fastened in the transport position. Do not transport with cutting mechanism rotating. Drive the machine with due consideration of road and surface conditions, incines and oca unduations. Sudden deceerating or braking can cause the rear whees to ift. Remember that the stabiity of the rear of the machine is reduced as the fue is used. GB-4

Before eaving the driving position, stop the engine and make sure a moving parts are stationary. Appy brakes and disengage a drives. Remove the starter key. 3.7 SLOPES TAKE EXTRA CARE WHEN WORKING ON SLOPES Loca unduations and sinkage wi change the genera sope. Avoid ground conditions which can cause the machine to side. Keep machine speeds ow on sopes and during tight turns. Sudden deceerating or braking can cause the rear whees to ift. Remember there is no such thing as a safe sope. Trave on grass sopes requires particuar care. DO NOT USE ON SLOPES GREATER THAN 15 IMPORTANT: When working on any sope set the weight transfer, if fitted to its maximum (+) setting. 3.8 BLOCKED CUTTING CYLINDERS Stop the engine and make sure a moving parts are stationary. Appy brakes and disengage a drives. Reease bockages with care. Keep a parts of the body away from the cutting edge. Beware of energy in the drive which can cause rotation when the bockage is reeased. Keep other peope away from the cutting units as rotation of one cyinder can cause the others to rotate. 3.9 ADJUSTMENTS, LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE Stop the engine and make sure a moving parts are stationary. Appy brakes and disengage a drives. Read a the appropriate servicing instructions. Use ony the repacement parts suppied by the origina manufacturer. When adjusting the cutting cyinders take care not to get hands and feet trapped when rotating cyinders. Make sure that other peope are not touching any cutting units, as rotation of one cyinder can cause the others to rotate. To reduce the fire hazard, keep the engine, siencer and battery compartments free of grass, eaves or excessive grease. Repace worn or damaged parts for safety. When working underneath ifted parts or machines, make sure adequate support Is provided. Do not dismante the machine without reeasing or restraining forces which can cause parts to move suddeny. Do not ater engine speed above maximum quoted in Engine Specification. Do not change the engine governor settings or overspeed the engine. Operating the engine at excessive speed may increase the hazard of persona injury. When refueing, STOP THE ENGINE, DO NOT SMOKE. Add fue before starting the engine, never add fue whie the engine is running. Use a funne when pouring fue from a can into the tank. Do not fi the fue tank beyond the bottom of the fier neck. Repace a fue tank and container caps securey. Store fue in containers specificay designed for this purpose. Refue outdoors ony and do not smoke whie refueing. If fue is spied, do not attempt to start the engine but move the machine away from the area of spiage and avoid creating any source of ignition unti fue vapours have dissipated. Aow the engine to coo before storing in any encosure. Never store the equipment with fue in the tank inside a buiding where fumes may reach an open fame or spark. If the fue tank has to be drained, this shoud be done outdoors. Do not spi fue onto hot components. When servicing batteries, DO NOT SMOKE, and keep naked ights away. Do not pace any meta objects across the terminas. GB-5

(a) Warm up the engine first and then shut it off. Remove oi drain pug from the bottom of the crankcase and wipe it off. (b) Repace the drain pug and fi engine with 6.0 itres of oi(with fiter). Fig.1 A Oi Fi, B DIPSTICK Change Engine Oi Fiter (A(Fig.2)) (a) Remove singe-unit cartridge (A) (b) Cean area on crankcase. (c) Appy thin coat of oi to cartridge gasket before instaing. (d) Tighten fiter by hand ony. (e) Check for oi eaks around the cartridge gasket after engine is started. Fig.1 Fig MACHINE: Lubricate the foowing points. Weeky or every 40 working hours. 1. 15 5 LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE JACOBSEN FAIRWAY 305 Series: CG MAINTENANCE AND PARTS MANUAL LUBRICATION 5.3 MACHINE: Every 600 Working Hours. Change Hydrauic Oi 1. Remove drain pug from bottom of Hydrauic tank and wipe off pug. (A(Fig.4)) 2. Aow tank to drain and repace pug. 3. Refi tank with approx 38 itres of 10w 30 Oi through one of the brass pugs. (B(Fig.5)) 4. Hydrauic Oi shoud be fied to haf way up the sight tube. (A(Fig.5)). IMPORTANT-Whenever the cosed oop transmission circuit has been broken into, it is essentia that the circuit is fushed prior to use. Absoute ceaniness must be observed when fiing the hydrauic tank. Oi must be fitered through a 25micron fiter before entering the hydrauic tank. Fig4 Change Hydrauic Oi Fiter (A)(Fig.6)) 1. Wipe fiter canister and housing to remove any dirt present. 2. Pace a suitabe drip tray under the fiter. 3. Unscrew fiter and dispose of safey. 4. Repace with new fiter canister. 5. Coat the top outside ip of the fiter canister with a thin fim of oi, fi fiter with cean hydrauic fuid and refit the fiter canister. 6. Fiter shoud be repaced before refiing hydrauic tank. Water Separator - If water is not removed from the fue, extensive damage can be done to the fue injection system. 1. With engine off, open vent (A) at top of water separator. 2. Open drain vave (B) at bottom of water seperator to aow any water to drain out. 3. If water is present, it wi drain first. When fue emerges from the vave (B), cose the vave. Cose the vent (A). Fig.10 NOTE: Faiure to drain water reduces fue fiter efficiency. Beeding air from fue system (Fig.11) 1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (don't start engine). 2. Open air vent (A) on side of injection pump to aow air to escape. 3. Retighten air vent. 4. Turn ignition to OFF. Unscrew fiter (A) from fiter head. 2. Remove water (B) separator from fiter and discard fiter. 3. Fit water separator to new fiter and refit fiter to head. 4. Beed air from system as describe in section 5.5. Fig.14 Fig MACHINE MAINTENANCE Battery. Keep fuid eves above battery pates. WARNING Wear eye protection when servicing battery. Other Reguar Service. Verify proper operation of safety interock switches (Neutra switch, Seat switch, etc.) Ensure nuts and bots remain tight. Keep tyre pressure at 1kg/cm 2 (14psi). Foow the engine manufacturer s maintenance recommendations. If a abe becomes worn or removed, see the LABELS section of this manua or the tractor Parts Manua for repacement information. NOTE: When washing machine with pressure spray washers or steam ceaners, avoid washing bearing areas because ceaning soutions might penetrate bearing seas and cause premature bearing faiure. Storage Store petro or diese fue in an approved container in a coo dry pace. Keep the machine and fue containers in a ocked storage pace to prevent tampering and to keep chidren from paying with them. Do not store fue or petro/diese fue powered equipment in any cosed area where heating appiances, piot ights or any sort of open fame is present. Before storing, aow the engine to coo, and drain fue competey from fue tanks and containers. Maximum safety and best mowing resuts can ony be expected if the mower is maintained and operated propery. Remove drain pug from bottom of Hydrauic tank and wipe off pug. (A(Fig.15)) 2. Aow tank to drain and repace pug. 3. Refi tank with approx 38 itres of 10w 30 Oi through one of the brass pugs. (B(Fig.16)) 4. Hydrauic Oi shoud be fied to haf way up the sight tube. (A(Fig.16)). IMPORTANT-Whenever the cosed oop transmission circuit has been broken into, it is essentia that the circuit is fushed prior to use. Absoute ceaniness must be observed when fiing the hydrauic tank. Oi must be fitered through a 25micron fiter before entering the hydrauic tank. Change Hydrauic Oi Fiter (A)(Fig.17)) 1. Wipe fiter canister and housing to remove any dirt present. 2. Pace a suitabe drip tray under the fiter. 3. Unscrew fiter and dispose of safey. 4. Repace with new fiter canister. 5. Coat the top outside ip of the fiter canister with a thin fim of oi, fi fiter with cean hydrauic fuid and refit the fiter canister. 6. Fiter shoud be repaced before refiing hydrauic tank. Change Cooant. 1. Competey drain the cooing water from the radiator and fush the cooing system with fushing detergent. 2. Check for eaks or oose connections at the radiator, cyinder head gasket, etc. 3. Mix antifreeze cooant and water at the specified ratio before pouring into the engine. 20 6 ADJUTMENTS JACOBSEN FAIRWAY 305 Series: CG MAINTENANCE AND PARTS MANUAL ADJUSTMENTS 6.1 SPEED LIMITER The transport and mow speeds are factory set and shoud not need atering. NOTE: Textron Turf Care cannot be hed responsibe for oss of performance or machine damage if these speeds are adjusted outside the speeds shown in the machine specification. 6.2 REAR WHEEL TOE-IN The rear whees shoud toe in 3.2mm(1/8") from the front to the back of the whee. (Fig.18) 1. Loosen ocknuts D at rosejoints inside each of the rear whees. 2. For each whee, rotate tie rod C unti the toe-in is correct. 3. Tighten ocknuts D. 6.3 STEERING SHAFT Fig.18 Casting B shoud just contact pin A on both sides. (Fig.18) 1. Loosen nut F. 2. Verify steering baance by rotating steering shaft G in its cyinder to produce fu steering right and eft. 3. Tighten nut F. 6.4 ALTERNATOR The fan bet is adjusted so that it can be defected 5mm (0.2in) with a force of 5 kg (11 bs) appied midway between the crankshaft and aternator puey.
