2 2 Årsberetning Annual report 2010 DGC Hvem er vi? Who are we? DGC er en rådgivnings- og udviklingsvirksomhed inden for energi og miljø med fokus på energigasser. DGC er det danske center for gasteknisk rådgivning, udvikling, undervisning og information. DGC arbejder med alle former for energigasser: naturgas, bygas, biogas, flaskegas, forgasningsgas og brint samt med kombinationer af energigasser og vedvarende energi. DGC is a technological consultancy and development company in the fields of energy and the environment. DGC s main focus area is energy gases. DGC is the Danish centre for consultancy services, development, training and information in the gas technology field. DGC works with all forms of energy gas: natural gas, town gas, biogas, LPG, gasification gas and hydrogen, as well as with combinations of energy gases and renewable energy. DGC undertakes consultancy, laboratory experiments and tests, field measurements, training and certification for energy companies, public authorities, organisations, equipment suppliers, installers, industry, consultants and other customers in Denmark and abroad. DGC har hovedkontor og laboratorium i forskerparken Scion DTU ved Hørsholm ca. 25 km nord for København. DGC har et lokalkontor i Aalborg, som er udgangspunkt for virksomhedens landsdækkende akkrediterede energi og miljømåleservice. DGC has its head office and laboratory at the Scion DTU science park in Hørsholm about 25 km north of Copenhagen. DGC has a local office in Aalborg, which is the base for the company s nationwide accredited energy and environmental measurement service. DGC s laboratorium er akkrediteret under DANAK til måling og sikkerhedsmæssig afprøvning af udstyr og anlæg til gasanvendelse. Laboratoriet er endvidere akkrediteret til gasanalyse. DGC s laboratory is accredited under DANAK (The Danish Accreditation and Metrology Fund) for measurement and safety testing of equipment and installations for gas use. The laboratory is also accredited for gas analysis. DGC er dansk Notified Body (godkendelsesinstans) på Gasapparatdirektivets område. DGC driver en kontrolinstans, som er godkendt af Sikkerhedsstyrelsen, på gas/vvs- og elområdet. DGC udfører verifikation af CO 2 -emission fra kraftvarmeanlæg i samarbejde med LRQA Danmark. DGC is the Danish Notified Body (approving authority) in the areas covered by the Gas Appliances Directive. DGC operates a certification body, which is approved by the Danish Safety Technology Authority, in the field of gas, plumbing and heating and electricity. DGC verifies CO 2 emissions from CHP plants in partnership with LRQA Danmark. Virksomheden har 34 medarbejdere og en årlig omsætning på 31 mio. kr. The company has 34 employees and generates annual revenue of DKK 31 million.

4 4 Årsberetning Annual report 2010 DGC Naturgas under forandring Natural gas in transition Udviklingen i det forgangne år har generelt medvirket til et mere positivt og konstruktivt syn på gassystemet. Der er en stigende erkendelse af, at naturgassen og gasinfrastrukturen (ledninger, lagre, etc.) er afgørende både for fastholdelsen af den nuværende stabile energiforsyning og den langsigtede omlægning til et energisystem baseret på øget anvendelse af vedvarende energi (VE). Developments in the past year have generally contributed to a more positive, constructive view of the gas system. There is growing recognition that natural gas and the gas infrastructure (pipelines, storage facilities, etc.) are essential both to maintain the current reliable energy supply and to the long-term transition to an energy system based on increased use of renewable energy. Naturgas dækker i dag en meget stor andel (ca. 25 pct.) af både det danske og det globale energiforbrug. Der findes ikke noget alternativ, der i løbet af kort tid kan erstatte naturgassen. Reservesituationen har i 2010 udviklet sig i gunstig retning, og en høj forsyningssikkerhed kan således fastholdes både på kort og langt sigt. I følge den anerkendte BP Statistical Review of World Energy er der globalt kendte, fundne gasreserver til at dække det nuværende forbrug i godt 60 år. Natural gas currently accounts for a very high proportion (around 25 per cent) of both Danish and global energy consumption. There is no alternative that can replace natural gas in the short term. Reserves developed favourably in 2010, ensuring that a high level of security of supply can be maintained in both the short and long terms. According to the recognised BP Statistical Review of World Energy, there are known, discovered global gas reserves to meet current consumption for just over 60 years. I 2010 kom der for alvor fokus på mulighederne i Unconventional Gas (fra skiferlag og andre hidtil uudnyttede gasformationer). Hvis Unconventional Gas indregnes, vil tidshorisonten let kunne fordobles. Unconventional Gas produceres allerede i stort omfang i USA i dag, og Det Internationale Energi Agentur (IEA) forventer, at den vil udgøre 15 pct. af gasproduktionen i Gasreserverne er spredt over mange lande og regioner, hvilket også øger forsyningssikkerheden. Og 70 pct. af de globale gasreserver ligger mindre end km fra Europa - dvs. bekvemt inden for rørledningsrækkevidde. In 2010, there was serious focus on the potential of Unconventional Gas (from shale strata and other previously untapped gas formations). If Unconventional Gas is included, the time frame can easily be doubled. Unconventional Gas is already produced on a large scale in the USA, and the International Energy Agency (IEA) expects that it will account for 15 per cent of gas production in Gas reserves are spread across many countries and regions, which also enhances security of supply. 70 per cent of global gas reserves are located less than 2,000 km from Europe, i.e. comfortably within pipeline range. Danmark har sine egne gasreserver i Nordsøen, som kan dække vores hjemlige forbrug mindst 10 år endnu, og der er for længst taget en række initiativer til at sikre både nye leverancer og udbygning af infrastruktur til at bringe anden gas frem til det danske transmissionssystem. Danmark er i dag gasmæssigt forbundet til Sverige, Tyskland (og offshore også med Holland), og Energinet.dk er ved at realisere et nyt ledningsprojekt, som vil styrke Danmarks sammenhæng med det europæiske gasmarked. Nye leverancer kan komme fra Tyskland, fra Norge, fra Rusland, fra nye felter i Nordsøen og som flydende gas (LNG). Målsætningen er en bredt sammensat løsning med gasleverancer fra flere kilder til gavn for markedet og for forsyningssikkerheden. Denmark has its own gas reserves in the North Sea that can meet our domestic consumption for at least another 10 years, and a number of initiatives were taken long ago to secure both new supplies and the expansion of the infrastructure to bring other gas to the Danish transmission system. Denmark has gas pipeline links to Sweden and Germany (and also with the Netherlands offshore), and Energinet.dk is in the process of implementing a new pipeline project that will boost Denmark s connectivity with the European gas market. New supplies can come from Germany, Norway, Russia and new fields in the North Sea and as liquefied natural gas (LNG). The objective is a broad-based solution with gas supplies from several sources to the benefit of the market and security of supply. (EU27: godt 2 mio. km gasledninger og 115 mio. kunder). Naturgasinfrastruk- The natural gas network is a very attractive energy infrastructure in many ways. It provides safe, silent, invisible transportation (with virtually no impact on the environment and people) of a very high proportion of Denmark s energy consumption through buried steel and plastic pipes (more than 20,000 km in total) to residential customers, industry, power stations and CHP plants (EU27: just over 2 million km of gas pipes and 115 million customers).

Hinstrup Direktør, President turen kan lagre meget betydelige energimængder og vil således være en uundværlig og aktiv partner i et fremtidigt energisystem med stærkt svingende energiproduktion. Naturgasnettet kan anvendes til at transportere andre energigasser end naturgas, fx biogas, forgasningsgas og brint, og dermed muliggøre en overgang til mere vedvarende energi, i den takt nye energigasser kan leveres til nettet. Omlægningen af energiforsyningen kan således - bl.a. ved hjælp af gasinfrastrukturen - finde sted, uden at forsyningssikkerhed og velfærd bringes i fare, eller udviklingen sættes i stå. Levetiden for det danske gassystem er (med den aktuelle vedligeholdelse) stort set ubegrænset - undersøgelser har ikke vist nogen væsentlig ældning af systemet. Man kan konkludere, at Danmark har let adgang til et godt energiråstof - naturgassen - og råder over en meget hensigtsmæssig, effektiv, miljøvenlig, langtidsholdbar og velfungerende infrastruktur - gasnettet. Det gælder selvfølgelig om at udnytte disse samfundsvigtige aktiver bedst muligt i omstillingen til en energifremtid baseret på VE. The natural gas infrastructure can store very considerable volumes of energy and will thus be an indispensable, active partner in a future energy system with highly fluctuating energy production. The natural gas network can be used to transport energy gases other than natural gas, for example biogas, gasification gas and hydrogen, and thus facilitate the transition to more renewable energy at the rate at which new energy gases can be supplied to the network. The conversion of the energy supply can therefore be effected with the assistance of the gas infrastructure, among other things, without jeopardising security of supply and welfare or halting development. The service life of the Danish gas system is largely unlimited (with the relevant maintenance). Studies have not revealed any significant ageing of the system. We can conclude that Denmark has easy access to a good energy resource, natural gas, and has a very expedient, efficient, eco-friendly, long-life, well-functioning infrastructure - the gas network. We naturally need to make optimum use of these essential assets in the transition to a future energy supply based on renewables. Det er bl.a. DGC s mission at medvirke proaktivt og visionært til denne videreudvikling af det danske energisystem, samtidig med at den nuværende gasanvendelse fortsat skal ske på sikker, effektiv og miljøvenlig vis. Opgaverne i 2010 har netop budt på denne fagligt spændende blanding af mere eksperimenterende udviklingsprojekter og traditionel gasteknisk rådgivning. It is part of DGC s mission to contribute proactively and in a visionary manner to this development of the Danish energy system, while ensuring that current gas use continues in a safe, efficient and eco-friendly manner. Our tasks in 2010 involved precisely this professionally exciting mixture of more experimental development projects and traditional gas technology consultancy. DGC takker de danske gasselskaber og andre kunder for godt samarbejde om fastholdelse af høj kvalitet i gasforsyningen og konstant fokus på udviklingsmulighederne til gavn for gaskunderne og samfundet generelt. Der skal derfor stadig arbejdes på at forbedre effektivitet og miljø i den eksisterende gasanvendelse. Natural gas must always be used with maximum consideration: efficiently, in an eco-friendly manner and safely. It is therefore necessary to work constantly to improve the efficiency and environmental impact of existing gas use. Naturgassen skal søges kombineret med vedvarende energi, fx sol, vind og varmepumper og på den måde facilitere en glidende overgang til det rene VEsystem. Naturgassen skal gøres grønnere ved tilsætning af fx biogas, forgasningsgas og brint. Forsyningssikkerheden skal på ethvert tidspunkt i omstillingsprocessen fastholdes, bl.a. ved at forberede gassystemet på mere varierende gassammensætning. We must attempt to combine natural gas with renewable energy, for example solar energy, wind energy and heat pumps and thus facilitate a gradual transition to a system with 100 per cent renewable energy. Natural gas must be made greener by the addition of, for example, biogas, gasification gas and hydrogen. Security of supply must be maintained at every stage of the transition process, among other things by preparing the gas system for more variation in gas composition.

8 8 Årsberetning Annual report 2010 DGC DGC i 2010 DGC in 2010 Hverdagen DGC s viden og resultater skal i sidste ende gerne gøre en positiv forskel i hverdagen hos den enkelte gaskunde. Det er derfor naturligt, at mange af DGC s opgaver bestilles af de teknikere fra gasselskaberne, der i dagligdagen har ansvaret for driften af gasforsyningen, og som dermed har førstehåndskendskab til de aktuelle behov for teknisk support. Opgaverne ligger ofte inden for områderne sikkerhed, miljø og energibesparelser. De relaterer sig til kedler og andet gasforbrugende udstyr, installationsforhold, ledninger, afregningsmålere, etc. Everyday life Our ultimate aim is for DGC s knowledge and results to make a positive difference in the everyday lives of individual gas customers. It is therefore natural for many of DGC s tasks to be ordered by the engineers at the gas companies who have day-to-day responsibility for the operation of the gas supply and thus have first-hand knowledge of the needs for technical support. Our tasks often lie in the areas of safety, the environment and energy savings. They relate to boilers and other gas-burning equipment, installation conditions, pipes, meters, etc. DGC løser opgaverne gennem tekniske analyser, beregninger, målinger, laboratorieforsøg, praktisk demonstration og undervisning. Denne rådgivning i hverdagen skal sikre fortsat høj kvalitet i gasforsyningen her og nu, men også at kunderne får glæde af den løbende teknologiske nyudvikling. DGC performs tasks via technical analyses, calculations, measurements, laboratory tests, practical demonstration and training. This day-to-day consultancy is designed to ensure that the quality of the gas supply remains high and also that customers benefit from ongoing technological developments. En af de helt dominerende udfordringer i 2010 har været forberedelsen af gassystemet på ny europæisk gas fra Tyskland af en lidt anden sammensætning end den danske naturgas fra Nordsøen. DGC har i tæt samarbejde med gasselskaber og myndigheder afklaret afregningsproblematikker, sikkerhedsmæssige spørgsmål og driftstekniske spørgsmål. Viden og resultater af DGC s arbejde formidles gennem undervisning, vejledninger, nyhedsmail, hjemmeside og daglig direkte dialog med teknikere, rådgivere, installatører, fabrikanter, myndigheder, kunder, etc. Denne formidlingsaktivitet er en kerneydelse for DGC og et vigtigt element i DGC s teknologiske serviceprogram rettet mod gasselskaber og omverdenen. Det teknologiske serviceprogram betales af DGC s ejere som en serviceydelse over for det danske samfund. Generelt er kunderne meget tilfredse med gassen. Vi tror på, at vi i DGC kan være med til at fastholde dette positive billede ved at være på forkant med potentielle problemer og gennem at yde fremadrettet teknologisk service. DGC s indsats på disse områder er et vigtigt element i strategien Intelligent Gas Technology (se side 6). Hvordan vi udmønter denne i hverdagens praktiske opgaver, kan man læse mere om i afsnittet Naturgas med tilfredshed. Det langsigtede perspektiv Det er ligeledes en vigtig del af DGC s strategi, Intelligent Gas Technology, at bidrage til den mere langsigtede udvikling af gassystemet. Dette gøres gennem udviklingsprojekter inden for biogas, forgasningsgas og brint samt projekter, hvor naturgas og VE-teknologi kombineres. One of the predominant challenges in 2010 was to prepare the gas system for new European gas from Germany, which has a slightly different composition to the Danish natural gas from the North Sea. In close cooperation with gas companies and public authorities, DGC dealt with settlement issues, safety issues and operating issues. The knowledge and results from DGC s work are communicated via training, guidelines, newsletters, our website and daily direct dialogue with engineers, consultants, installers, manufacturers, public authorities, customers, etc. This communication activity is a core service for DGC and an important element of DGC s technological service programme aimed at gas companies and the wider world. The technological service programme is paid for by DGC s owners as a service to Danish society. Customers are generally very satisfied with their gas service. At DGC, we believe that we can contribute to maintaining this positive image by keeping ahead of potential problems and by providing future-oriented technological service. DGC s initiatives in these areas are an important element in the Intelligent Gas Technology strategy (see page 6). You can read more about how we put this strategy into practice in the section Natural gas with satisfaction. The long-term outlook An important component of DGC s Intelligent Gas Technology strategy is to contribute to the long-term development of the gas system. This is done via development projects relating to biogas, gasification gas and hydrogen and projects in which natural gas and renewable energy technology are combined.

9 DGC Årsberetning Annual report DGC undersøger bl.a. aspekter vedrørende afsætning af opgraderet biogas via naturgasnettet. Der er undersøgt opgraderingsteknologier, krav til gaskvalitet, barrierer for afsætning af biogas til nettet, anvendelse af opgraderet biogas, ansvarsforhold, sikkerhedsmæssige forhold, ejerstruktur, driftsøkonomi, samfundsøkonomi og miljøforhold. DGC arbejder endvidere på at kortlægge mulighederne for at indføde forgasningsgas på nettet. Forgasningsgas fremstilles af biomasse og kan opgraderes, så den kommer til at svare til naturgas. Among other things, DGC is studying aspects relating to sales of upgraded biogas via the natural gas network. Areas studied include upgrading technologies, gas quality requirements, barriers to selling biogas to the network, use of upgraded biogas, responsibilities, safety issues, ownership structure, operating finances, economics and environmental conditions. DGC is also working to chart the opportunities for feeding gasification gas into the network. Gasification gas is produced from biomass and can be upgraded so that it is equivalent to natural gas. DGC har gennem en årrække arbejdet med samspillet mellem brint og naturgas. Naturgasnettet kan være en interessant afsætningskanal også for brint (ud over biogas og forgasningsgas). Dels for naturgasselskaberne, som på længere sigt kan distribuere CO 2 -fri vedvarende energi i den eksisterende infrastruktur, dels for brint- og biogasproducenter, som ved hjælp af naturgasnettet kan nå ud til et meget stort marked. DGC s indsats har bla. bestået i at undersøge slutbrugerkonsekvenser med fokus på gasfyrede villakedler. En anden aktivitet har været afprøvning af brints eventuelle påvirkning på plast- og stålrør i det danske naturgassystem. DGC har et rammeprogram for demonstration af naturgas i kombination med VE-teknologier. De tre første konkrete projekter inden for rammeprogrammet er igangsat i De omfatter demonstration af naturgasfyrede kedler i samspil med solfangeranlæg. DGC arbejder endvidere med praktisk afprøvning af gasfyrede varmepumper og brændselsceller til mikrokraftvarme. Projekter med mere langsigtet perspektiv er nærmere beskrevet i afsnittet Naturgas for fremtiden. DGC rækker ud mod omverdenen Danmark er et relativt lille naturgasland (0,3 pct. af global gasproduktion, 0,1 pct. af globalt gasforbrug), og DGC har som nationalt gasteknisk center en vigtig funktion som brohoved for overførsel af viden og teknologi til og fra andre gaslande, hvor langt størstedelen af den energiteknologiske udvikling nødvendigvis må finde sted. Videnudveksling sker først og fremmest gennem DGC s betydelige internationale projektengagement, hvor virksomheden i 2010 har spillet en hovedrolle inden for flere store europæiske projekter, bl.a. vedrørende gaskvalitet og optimering af anvendelsen af gaskedler. DGC s medlemskaber af internationale samarbejdsorganisationer er ligeledes af stor betydning for den løbende udveksling af viden og forskningsresultater. DGC har gennem mere end 20 år repræsenteret Danmark i Marcogaz (de europæiske gasselskabers tekniske interesseorganisation, og i GERG (de europæiske gasselskabers forskningssamarbejde, For a number of years, DGC has been working on the interaction between hydrogen and natural gas. The natural gas network may be an interesting sales channel for hydrogen as well (in addition to biogas and gasification gas). This is true both for the natural gas companies, which will be able, in the longer term, to distribute CO 2 -free renewable energy in the existing infrastructure, and for hydrogen and biogas producers, which will be able to use the natural gas network to reach a very large market. DGC s work has consisted in part in studying end user consequences, with the focus on gas-fired domestic boilers. Another activity has been to test the impact of hydrogen on plastic and steel pipes in the Danish natural gas system. DGC has a framework programme for the demonstration of natural gas in combination with renewable energy technologies. The first three specific projects in the framework programme were initiated in They include demonstration of natural gas-fired boilers in interaction with solar collector systems. DGC is also working on the practical testing of gas-fired heat pumps and fuel cells for micro CHP plants. Projects with a more long-term time frame are described in further detail in the section Natural gas for the future. DGC reaches out to the rest of the world Denmark is a relatively small natural gas country (0.3 per cent of global gas production, 0.1 per cent of global gas consumption). As a national gas technology centre, DGC has an important function as a bridgehead for the transfer of knowledge and technology to and from other gas countries, where the bulk of energy technology development must necessarily take place. Knowledge is exchanged primarily via DGC s considerable international project commitments. In 2010, the company played a major role in several large European projects concerning issues such as gas quality and optimisation of the use of gas boilers. DGC s membership of international cooperation organisations is also extremely important to the ongoing exchange of knowledge and research findings. For more than 20 years, DGC has been representing Denmark in Marcogaz (the Technical Association of the European Gas Industry, and GERG (the European Gas Research Group,

10 10 Årsberetning Annual report 2010 DGC I samarbejde med Marcogaz og GERG afholder DGC d maj 2011 European Gas Technology Conference (EGATEC 2011) i København med temaet Gas Innovation for a Greener Europe. 13 DGC Årsberetning Annual report Naturgas med tilfredshed Natural gas with satisfaction Der er i Danmark i dag godt naturgaskunder og kunder, der bruger Bygas2. (Bygas2 er en blanding af naturgas og luft, som bruges i bygasnettene i København og Aalborg.) Gas bruges overalt i det danske samfund: private hjem, kraft- og kraftvarmeværker (fjernvarme), institutioner, forretning og industri. Ca. 20 pct. af naturgassen anvendes af private kunder. Antalsmæssigt udgør private langt det største kundesegment (97 pct. af samtlige kunder). I private husstande anvendes gas til opvarmning, varmt vand og madlavning. Der er herudover nogle volumenmæssigt mindre private anvendelser såsom tøjtørring, grill, pejse, lamper. Naturgas anvendes endvidere i kedler, motorer og turbiner i både centrale og decentrale kraft- og kraftvarmeværker, der står for ca. 50 pct. af det samlede naturgasforbrug. I industri og erhverv, der står for ca. 30 pct. af naturgasforbruget, anvendes gassen til traditionelle formål som opvarmning, dampproduktion, tørring og smeltning i fx kedelanlæg og ovne, eller direkte i processerne. Langt de fleste gaskunder er rigtig godt tilfredse med gassen, fordi de oplever den som konkurrencedygtig, stabil, problemfri, sikker og miljøvenlig. Det er en vigtig del af DGC s mission at hjælpe med til at fastholde dette positive billede. Det kræver, at vi konstant er på forkant med eventuelle sikkerhedsproblemer, at vi bestræber os på at forbedre effektiviteten i gasanvendelsen, at vi tilgodeser miljøet, og at vi giver kunderne adgang til ny teknologi og nye muligheder for optimal udnyttelse af gassen. I det følgende er givet en række eksempler på denne type aktiviteter i There are just over 400,000 natural gas customers and 180,000 Bygas2 customers in Denmark (Bygas2 is a mixture of natural gas and air that is used in the town gas networks in Copenhagen and Aalborg). Gas is used throughout Danish society in private homes, power stations and CHP plants (district heating), institutions, business and industry. Approximately 20 per cent of natural gas is used by residential customers. In terms of numbers, residential customers make up by far the largest customer segment (97 per cent of all customers). In private households, gas is used for heating, hot water and cooking. There are also a few other residential applications, which are small in terms of volume, such as drying clothes, barbecues, fireplaces and lamps. Natural gas is also used in boilers, engines and turbines at both central and small-scale power stations and CHP plants. This accounts for approximately 50 per cent of all natural gas consumption. In industry and business, which account for approximately 30 per cent of natural gas consumption, gas is used for traditional purposes such as heating, steam production, drying and melting in, for example, boiler plants and furnaces, or directly in the processes. The great majority of gas customers are extremely satisfied with gas because they find it competitive, reliable, problem-free, safe and eco-friendly. It is an important part of DGC s mission to help maintain this positive image. This requires that we are constantly ahead of any safety problems, that we strive to improve the efficiency of gas use, that we take the environment into consideration and that we give our customers access to new technology and new opportunities for optimum utilisation of gas. In a user-friendly manner, this site provides information on the use of natural gas/town gas and associated equipment. There are around 600,000 residential gas customers, who use either natural gas or Bygas2. The latter is a mixture of natural gas and air that has replaced the previous town gas in Copenhagen and Aalborg. In most private homes, gas is used primarily for room heating and to heat water for domestic use by means of a gas boiler. However, natural gas is also used for gas cookers, gas radiators and tumble dryers. It is also

The efficiency of a boiler is characterised by a nominal efficiency that is measured in a laboratory in connection with CE certification. When the boiler is installed at the consumer, however, the efficiency of the boiler will often be very different to what was measured in the laboratory. The actual annual efficiency depends on heat requirements and the interaction with the building s heating system, among other things. Therefore, it can vary greatly from one installation to another, although each uses the same boiler. I Danmark har vi i flere år brugt beregningsværktøjerne BOILSIM og GASPRO - begge udviklet af DGC - til vurdering af kedlens årsnyttevirkning. Det var derfor nærliggende for DGC at foreslå udviklingen af et fælleseuropæisk system, der kan det samme som BOILSIM og GASPRO. I samarbejde med REPSOL YPF (Spanien), National Technical University of Athens (Grækenland) og Centro de Apoio Tecnologico a Industria Metalomecanica (Portugal) har DGC i 2010 afsluttet et større EU-støttet projekt med dette formål. Systemet kan bruges af private, installatører, energikonsulenter, arkitekter og andre interessenter til at vælge den bedst egnede kedel til en ny installation eller i en udskiftningssituation. Systemet indeholder en database med flere hundrede kedler, der i dag anvendes på det europæiske marked. Det forventes, at systemet i fremtiden kan videreudvikles, så det tager hensyn til det nye ecodesigndirektiv, og at markedsovervågning kan introduceres som en ekstra funktion. Gaskvaliteten ændres gradvis i Danmark Det danske gastransmissionssystem forsynes enten direkte fra Nordsøen via gasbehandlingsanlægget ved Nybro, ved import fra Tyskland via Ellund eller fra naturgaslagrene i Ll. The basic idea behind BISON was to integrate BOILSIM in a web-based calculation system with a multi-string user interface adapted to different target groups and languages. The system can be used by private individuals, installers, energy consultants, architects and others to choose the most suitable boiler for a new installation or to replace an existing boiler. The system contains a database with several hundred boilers that are currently in use on the European market. The system is expected to be developed in the future to take into account the new Ecodesign Directive and to include market monitoring as an additional function. Gas quality is changing gradually in Denmark The Danish gas transmission system is supplied either directly from the North Sea via the gas treatment plant at Nybro, with imported gas from Germany via Ellund or from the natural gas storage facilities near Ll. Torup and Stenlille. Since October 2010, natural gas has been imported for long periods of time from Germany to the Danish and Swedish markets. Gasselskaberne og DGC har for flere år siden iværksat en række tiltag for at være på forkant med situationen, og aktiviteten i DGC på gaskvalitetsområdet har været intens i DGC har for Energinet.dk kortlagt hele den danske population af gasapparater, så det kan fastslås, hvilken betydning de nye gaskvaliteter vil have for de enkelte apparattyper. Der er i alt gasforbrugende apparater installeret i Danmark. Apparaterne er opdelt i grupper efter type og forbrændingssystem. Der er ca forskellige fabrikater og 6000 typer. Der er opgjort gasforbrug, aldersfordeling og antal apparater i de enkelte grupper. Opgørelsen er blevet anvendt til at vurdere de sikkerhedsmæssige, effektivitetsmæssige og miljømæssige konsekvenser af de forventede nye gaskvaliteter. Endelig rapport vil foreligge primo Energinet.dk vurderer herefter de samfundsøkonomiske konsekvenser af variationen i gaskvalitet. DGC har revideret metoderne til indregulering og kontrol af kedler, nye DGC-vejledninger er udsendt, og et kursusprogram for vvs-installatører er iværksat. Flere af DGC s vejledninger indgår i Sikkerhedsstyrelsens Gasreglement. Visse kedeltyper har vist sig vanskelige at indregulere optimalt med varierende gaskvalitet. Der er indledt en dialog med Sikkerhedsstyrelsen om, hvorledes denne situation håndteres mest hensigtsmæssigt. DGC revised the methods for adjustment and inspection of boilers, new DGC guidelines were distributed and a course programme for plumbing and heating installers was initiated. Several of DGC s guidelines are included in the Danish Safety Technology Authority s Gas Regulations. Certain boiler types have proved to be difficult to adjust optimally with varying gas quality. A dialogue has been started with the Danish Safety Technology Authority on how to handle this situation most appropriately. In addition, laboratory tests were conducted on forced draught gas burners, which were assessed in advance as being the most critical appliance type. DGC is also planning laboratory experiments to establish whether it is possible to develop a simple Wobbe index meter. DGC leder europæisk gaskvalitetskonsortium ( Også på europæisk plan er spørgsmålet om gassammensætning yderst aktuelt. EU-Kommissionen vedtog allerede i 2008 den såkaldte tredje liberaliseringspakke vedrørende el- og gasmarkederne. Pakken vil stimulere transport af naturgas med forskellig sammensætning på tværs af landegrænserne. EU-liberaliseringen kræver således en løsning af de tekniske udfordringer, der ligger i at operere med varierende gaskvalitet - en situation som vil gælde generelt for en række af Europas gaslande. Lokal tilsætning af biogas og brint til gasnettene vil også kunne påvirke gassammensætningen. EU har på denne baggrund givet den europæiske standardiseringsorganisation CEN mandat til at udarbejde en ny standard for gaskvalitet for at fremme realiseringen af det indre marked. Som grundlag for standardiseringsarbejdet skal der gennemføres en undersøgelse af, hvordan eksisterende gasapparater på det europæiske marked vil reagere på forskellige gassammensætninger. DGC leads European gas quality consortium ( The issue of gas composition is extremely relevant at European level as well. Already in 2008, the EU Commission adopted the third liberalisation package concerning the electricity and gas markets. The aim of the package is primarily to intensify competition on the EU single market. It will stimulate trade in and transportation of natural gas with various compositions across national borders. The EU liberalisation thus makes it necessary to resolve the technical challenges associated with operating with varying gas quality. This is a situation that will apply in general to a number of the gas countries in Europe. Local addition of biogas and hydrogen to the gas networks may also affect the gas composition. Against this background, the EU has authorised the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) to draw up a new gas quality standard to promote the realisation of the single market. As a basis for the standardisation work, a study of how existing gas appliances on the European market will react

Deltagerne i konsortiet er: Germanischer Lloyd, BRG, British Gas, BAXI (England) ; ARGB (Belgien); DVGW-CERT, DVGW-EBI, Vaillant (Tyskland); CETIAT, GDF SUEZ, AFG (Frankrig); KEMA (Holland); INIG (Polen); REPSOL (Spanien) og RIELLO (Italien). I projektets første fase er kedelmarkedet analyseret for at identificere de ca. 100 apparater, der skal afprøves i Fase II. Der er endvidere udviklet en afprøvningsprotokol hertil. I Fase II har DGC og fire andre laboartorier nu afprøvet ca. halvdelen af de udvalgte apparater, og denne aktivitet vil fortsætte i det meste af De første resultater viser, at indreguleringen af apparaterne er en meget væsentlig parameter. DGC har endvidere opbygget en særlig prøvestand i laboratoriet til langtidsafprøvning af et bredt sortiment af gasudstyr. Der skal på denne prøvestand testes ca. 15 apparater, og langtidseffekten af at køre med overbelastning på apparaterne skal undersøges. Ud over selve afprøvningerne skal DGC undersøge en række scenarier for variation i gaskvaliteten og kvantificere påvirkningen af apparaterne med hensyn til sikkerhed, nyttevirkning og emissioner. De mest følsomme markedssegmenter (over for variation i gaskvaliteten) skal udpeges og lokaliseres, så eventuelt yderligere aktion kan sættes i gang, hvis det anses for nødvendigt (udskiftning eller justering af potentielt farlige apparater etc.). Projektet skulle oprindeligt have været afsluttet ultimo 2010, men forsinkelser hos en række af de deltagende laboratorier har betydet en udskydelse af slutrapporteringen til ultimo Bedre bestemmelse af gaskvalitetsvariationer Den forventede fremtidige mere svingende gaskvalitet i det danske distributionsnet vil gøre det aktuelt at kunne bestemme gaskvaliteten flere steder i ledningsnettet ved hjælp af mikro-gaskromatografer (mikro-gc er). En mikro-gc er en gaskromatograf, som er tilpasset de konkrete drifts- og installationsbetingelser, ikke optager megen plads og er optimeret til at lave en hurtig analyse. For de undersøgte mikro-gc er var varigheden af en analyse ca. 3 til 5 minutter, hvilket er væsentligt mindre end på en konventionel gaskromatograf. DGC har for gasselskabernes Fagudvalg for Gasmåling testet fire mikro-gc er fra forskellige leverandører med det formål at undersøge, om de fire mikro-gc er kan benyttes i det danske naturgasnet. Testen er udført i Nybro samt i DGC s laboratorium. Der er analyseret gasblandinger, som afspejler de gassammensætninger, der forventes at forekomme i det danske naturgasnet. Både blandinger to varying gas compositions must be carried out. DGC heads a European consortium set up to carry out the necessary studies. The other partners are: Germanischer Lloyd, BRG, British Gas, BAXI (UK); ARGB (Belgium); DVGW-CERT, DVGW-EBI, Vaillant (Germany); CETIAT, GDF SUEZ, AFG (France); KEMA (the Netherlands); INIG (Poland); REPSOL (Spain) and RIELLO (Italy). In the first phase of the project, the boiler market was analysed to identify the approximately 100 appliances to be tested in Phase II. A test protocol for this purpose was also developed. In Phase II, DGC and four other laboratories have now tested around half of the selected appliances and this activity will continue for most of Initial results show that the adjustment of the appliances is a very important parameter. DGC has also built a special test stand in the laboratory for long-term testing of a wide range of gas equipment. Around 15 appliances will be tested on this test stand and the long-term effect of operating with overload on the appliances will be studied. In addition to the tests themselves, DGC will study a number of scenarios for variations in gas quality and quantify the impact on the appliances in terms of safety, efficiency and emissions. The most sensitive market segments (in relation to variations in gas quality) will be identified and localised so that any further action required can be implemented, if deemed necessary (replacement or adjustment of potentially hazardous appliances, etc.). The project was originally to have been completed by the end of 2010, but delays at a number of the participating laboratories have meant that the final reporting has been postponed to the end of Better analysis of gas quality variations The expected future increase in fluctuation in gas quality in the Danish distribution network will make it necessary to be able to determine the gas quality at several locations in the pipeline network using micro gas chromatographs (micro GCs) (gas quality is currently measured in the transmission network at entry points and at the gas storage facilities. A micro GC is a gas chromatograph that is adapted to the specific operating and installation conditions, does not take up much space and is optimised to allow quick analysis. For the micro GCs studied, the duration of analyses was approximately 3 to 5 minutes, which is much lower than on a conventional gas chromatograph. DGC tested four micro GCs from various suppliers for the gas companies Technical Committee on Gas Measurement with the aim of studying whether the four micro GCs can be used in the Danish natural gas network. The tests were performed in Nybro and at DGC s laboratory. The gas

NO x og kulbrinte er de største skadevoldere Sammen med Danmarks Miljø Undersøgelser og motorleverandørerne Rolls Royce og Wärtsilä har DGC gennemført et projekt for at bestemme de klima- og sundhedsmæssige skadesvirkninger af emissioner fra naturgasfyrede motorer på kraftvarmeværker. Formålet har været at få klarlagt, hvor man bør fokusere ved reduktion af emissioner. Projektet har omfattet målinger på en række motorer under forskellige driftsforhold, spredningsberegninger, der fortæller, hvor emissionerne bæres hen, og litteraturundersøgelse af skadesvirkninger af de udsendte stoffer. Det konkluderes, at skadesvirkninger af formaldehyd og CO er af minimal betydning sammenlignet med skadesvirkninger forårsaget af NO x - og kulbrinteemissioner. Ved høje NO x -emissioner er omkostninger relateret til skadesvirkninger som følge af NO x -emissioner gange højere end omkostninger relateret til kulbrinteemissioner. Based on the test results, all the micro GCs tested can be used to analyse the expected future gas quality in the Danish pipeline network. However, it will always be an advantage to calibrate the micro GC with a gas mixture close to the gas composition that is most likely at the given location. NO x and hydrocarbons are the major culprits With the National Environmental Research Institute and the engine suppliers Rolls Royce and Wärtsilä, DGC implemented a project to determine the harmful effects on climate and health of emissions from natural gas-fired engines at CHP plants. The aim was to identify focus areas for emission reduction initiatives. The project covered measurements on a number of engines under different operating conditions, dispersal calculations that indicate where the emissions are carried and a study of the literature on the harmful effects of the substances emitted. The conclusion was that the harmful effects of formaldehyde and CO are insignificant compared with those caused by NO x and hydrocarbon emissions. With high NO x emissions, the costs related to harmful effects as a result of NO x emissions are times higher than the costs related to hydrocarbon emissions. With low NO x emissions, the costs related to harmful effects as a result of NO x emissions are 5-8 times higher than the costs related to hydrocarbon emissions. Betal den rigtige metanafgift Folketinget har med Lov 722 i juni 2010 vedtaget, at man skal betale metanafgift for gasmotoranlæg fra Under visse forudsætninger er der mulighed for at få en del af denne afgift retur. DGC har i som en ny serviceydelse - udviklet en abonnementsordning for udarbejdelse af den dokumentation, der er en forudsætning for, at der kan ske afgiftsrefusion. Ordningen er beskrevet i to produktblade, som gør det muligt for motorejere at vurdere, hvilken afgiftsrefusion de vil kunne opnå for deres motorer. In 2010, DGC developed a new service, a subscription scheme for preparing the documentation required to claim a tax refund. 20 20 Årsberetning Annual report 2010 DGC Naturgas for fremtiden Natural gas for the future Regeringens Klimakommission har i sin rapport, der udkom ultimo september 2010, konkluderet, at visionen om, at Danmark på sigt skal frigøre sig fuldstændigt fra fossile brændsler, kan gennemføres, og at det stort set ikke vil koste mere, end hvis vi fortsatte med kul, olie og naturgas. Endvidere fastslår Kommissionen, at fremtidens energisystem hovedsagelig vil være baseret på el, og at vi skal have meget mere vind og biomasse. Energisystemet skal være intelligent, og vi skal naturligvis bruge energien meget mere effektivt. Men hvad betyder dette i praksis for naturgassen? Hvad skal der ske med vores naturgassystem, og hvornår skal det i givet fald ske? Det har ikke været kommissionens opgave at svare på disse spørgsmål. Den angiver mål, retning og mulige virkemidler, og det er så op til politikerne og energisektoren i øvrigt at udmønte visionerne i konkret energiplanlægning. Gassektoren har på eget initiativ for længst taget bestik af situationen og er i fuld gang med at forberede sig på en gradvis og forsvarlig omstilling til en grønnere fremtid.det er bl.a. DGC s mission at assistere gasselskaberne med denne teknologisk set meget udfordrende proces. Vi har samlet vores fælles initiativer i strategien Intelligent Gas Technology. I det følgende gives eksempler på projekter i 2010, der indgår i Intelligent Gas Technology. The Danish Government s Climate Commission concluded in its report, which was published at the end of September 2010, that the vision of Denmark completely ceasing to use fossil fuels is feasible in the long term and that it will not generally cost more than if we continued to use coal, oil and natural gas. The Commission also found that the energy system of the future will mainly be based on electricity and that we must have much more wind energy and biomass. The energy system must be intelligent and we must, of course, use energy much more efficiently. But what does this mean for natural gas in practice? What will happen to our natural gas system and when will it happen? It was not the Commission s task to answer these questions. It indicates targets, the direction and possible means and it is then up to the politicians and the energy sector to transform the visions into specific energy planning. On its own initiative, the gas sector took stock of the situation long ago and is in full swing with the preparations for a gradual, sound transition to a greener future. Part of DGC s mission is to assist the gas companies in this technologically very challenging process. We have combined our joint initiatives in the Intelligent Gas Technology strategy. Below are examples of projects in 2010 included in Intelligent Gas Technology. Partnerskabet mellem gas og VE afprøves i praksis DGC har med udgangspunkt i Intelligent Gas Technology -strategien aftalt et rammeprogram med gasselskabernes Fagudvalg for Gasanvendelse og Installationer for demonstration af naturgas i kombination med VE-teknologier. De tre første konkrete projekter inden for rammeprogrammet er nu igangsat. Det første omfatter en demonstration af en 15 kw kedelunit med indbygget 160 liters beholder i kombination med en 5 m 2 solfanger. Anlægget er idriftsat i juni 2010 og forsyner en villa på 184 m 2 med varme og varmt vand, hvor solfangeren udelukkende bidrager til varmtvandsbehovet. Energimålere er installeret, og målinger er igangsat oktober Det andet projekt omfatter demonstration af en gas/solinstallation ved en boligbebyggelse. Installationen består af 40 m 2 solfanger og to 1000 liters akkumuleringstanke. Som backup er der installeret to 60 kw kedler koblet i kaskade. Anlægget blev idriftsat i september 2009 og forsyner 7 dobbelthuse med varme og varmt vand. DGC forventer at begynde at måle på anlægget primo Det tredje projekt omfatter en 3000 liters akkumuleringstank i kombination med 25 m 2 solfanger og en 15 kw The partnership between gas and renewable energy is tested in practice On the basis of the Intelligent Gas Technology strategy, DGC has agreed a framework programme with the gas companies Technical Committee on Gas Utilisation and Installations for the demonstration of natural gas in combination with renewable energy technologies. The first three specific projects within the framework programme have now been started. The first involves demonstration of a 15 kw boiler unit with an integrated 160-litre tank in combination with 5 m 2 of solar collectors. The system was taken into operation in June 2010 and supplies a 184 m 2 house with heat and hot water. The solar collectors contribute to the hot water requirements only. Energy meters are installed and measurements began in October The second project involves demonstration of a gas/solar installation in connection with a residential development. The installation consists of 40 m 2 of solar collectors and two 1000-litre accumulator tanks. Two 60 kw boilers have been installed in cascade as backup. The system was taken into operation in September 2009 and supplies 14 semidetached houses with heat and hot water. DGC expects to begin measuring the system at the start of 2011.
