The above Basic Studies elements are taken in the first year of study, cf. the applicable rules in the Examination Order. The Secretariat for the Bachelor Programme will automatically register students for the Basic Studies activities in the first and second semesters. However, students must enter their own project group into the registration system after group formation. (4) Students must register themselves for study activities in the subsequent semesters (third semester, fourth semester, fifth semester and sixth semester) within the deadlines laid down by the University.

4 Page 4 (5) If a student does not specify a choice of subject module(s) within the specified deadline for registration, or registers for study activities corresponding to fewer than 30 ECTS credits, the University will undertake an administrative registration in accordance with the provisions set out in an appendix to this curriculum. (6) If there are more students seeking to register for a study activity (i.e. a course, subject module or the like) than there are places available, places will be allocated by lot among the students who have registered for the activity. (7) Withdrawal of registration is not usually possible. For detailed provisions on this, see the Examination Regulations. 8. With the exception of Basic Studies Course 7, the sequence of all study activities in Basic Studies is fixed, cf. however section 35. The student may thereafter freely choose the sequence in which the subject modules and elective courses are taken. The curriculum contains, in appendix form, recommended courses of study for the individual subject modules, cf. section 7. The Bachelor project is located in the sixth semester of the Bachelor programme. The Bachelor project may however be placed in the fifth semester if special circumstances so require, and if this is approved by the Head of Bachelor Studies. (2) In special cases, upon application from a student, the Study Board may approve deviations from the prescribed sequence of projects and courses. 9. The project work takes place in groups. (2) The maximum number of students who can take part in a project group or Bachelor project group is six. Smaller or larger group sizes may be specified in the subject module descriptions. (3) In special cases, the Head of Studies may grant a student permission to write a project alone. This also applies to the group examination in the course BK 7. (4) In special cases, the Head of Studies in the Master s programme responsible for a subject module may grant a student permission to write a subject module project alone. 10. The project work is exemplary, problem-oriented and participant-managed, and is intended to develop the student s skills in applying scientific theories and methods in work within a defined academic area. The project work requires the independent formulation of a freely-chosen issue which is illuminated in an exemplary manner. The project work concludes with the compilation of a project report. (2) A project report is understood to be a written academic dissertation on the chosen problem formulation, possibly supplemented by a product developed within the project work. The Study Board may lay down further regulations governing the form and content of the dissertation and any products.

5 Page 5 (3) The curriculum stipulates which subjects and/or educational requirements must be acquired through the project work. In the description of this, it must be ensured that the issue for the project work can freely be chosen from within central academic areas in the Bachelor programme s field of study. (4) The topics of the project work are selected by the student from within the framework laid down by the Study Board. (5) BP 1, BP 2 and BP 3 include project workshops, which comprise a mandatory part of the project work. It is a prerequisite for participation in the project examination that the student has had a written group assignment approved. The group is identical with the project group. The group assignment is defined, and must reflect regular, active and satisfactory participation in relation to the individual workshop sessions. Further descriptions of the project workshops are provided in an appendix to this curriculum. (6) If a written group assignment is not approved, the assignment must be adapted, taking account of the comments of the examiner, and re-submitted. The re-submitted assignment will meet the prerequisite requirements if it is approved by the project workshop supervisor.
