1 Annex PRESS RELEASE A delegation of the Tunisian People's Unity Movement, headed by Mr Ben Salah, previously Minister for the Economy, met today in Luxembourg with Mr Ludwig Fellermaier, chairman of the Socialist Group, Mr Goerges Sp~nale, Vice-President of the European Parliament and Mr Hernut Sieglerschmidt, a member of the Political Affairs Committee of the European Parliament. This visit followed an initia meeting which took place on 5 March 978 in Strasbourg. The wave of repression in Tunisia which has followed the events of 26 January 978 was discussed at the meeting. t was decided to maintain and strengthen contacts, in the hope that democracy will be restored in Tunisia. 14 recalled its earlier decision to employ the financial resources acculnulated over the years for purposes of Direct Elections. 2) The Bureau decided to adapt the organisational structure of the secretariat to meet the needs of the forthcoming election campaign by : the setting-up of a task force in the secretariat composed of Laleure, Hanisch, Santiago, Blackman and Falcone; - reducing the emphasis on over-specialised Committee work by assigning staff members to more than one parliamentary Committee. Should Parliament not reach an agreement on the hearing, a hearing will be organised by the Socialist Group itself. 9. On the recommendation of the committee and after detailed examination of the proposals made, the Bureau decided: () to give responsibility for the central secretariat within the group secretariat to a deputy secretariat-general. This decision was taken with two abstentions (SEEFELD, HANSEN). The Bureau then decided unanimously to appoint the present head of the central secretariat, Jean LALEURE, deputy secretariat-general.
