2 October20 DearColeagues: Wearepleasedtosendthistailoredreportcontainingyourstudents votingratesfor 2020.Thisreportcontainsthreeyearsofrelevanttoplinedata:2016,2018,and2020.As always,wedisaggregatethedatasoyoucanbeteridentifyandaddressgapsin participation. Colegeanduniversitystudentsparticipatedinrecord-breakingnumbersinthe2020 election.in2016,theaverageinstitutionalvotingratewas53%.thisyear,itjumpedto 66%.Weencourageyoutoreview DemocracyCounts2020,ourmostrecentnational report. Asinpastyears,weurgeyoutosharethisreportwidelyandstrategicaly,particularly withfacultywho,in2020,wereoftenthemostconsistentcommunicatorswithstudents aboutever-changingvotingconditionsanddeadlines.wealsourgeyoutoreview our recommendationsforengagingelectionstocultivatearobustandhealthycampus climateforpoliticalengagement,discourse,equity,andparticipation:election Imperatives(2019)andthemorerecentElectionImperatives:ATimeofPhysical DistancingandSocialAction.Since pervasivepoliticaldiscussions andatentivenessto thecampusculturearoundspeechandacademicfreedom areamongourtop recommendations,wedirectyoutoourdiscussionguidesontalkingaboutyournslve report,onfreespeechandinclusion,andonhottopics,ourmakingsenseof guides.
