This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by November 2000, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by November 2000. Page 3 EN 1023-2:2000 Introduction At the very beginning of this work, this text was intended to specify overall requirements of all safety aspects of office screens. However, standards for some aspects which will ultimately be referred to in this standard are not yet available. This edition of this standard has been issued to specify requirements where the related standards exist, and is therefore limited to mechanical safety requirements. 1 Scope This part of EN 1023 specifies the mechanical safety requirements of office screens which are divided into general safety requirements and structural safety requirements. 2 Normative references This European Standard incorporates by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications. These normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications are listed hereafter. For dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publications apply to this European Standard only when incorporated in it by amendment or revision. For undated references the latest edition of the publication referred to applies (including amendments). EN 1023-3:2000 3 General safety requirements Office furniture - Screens - Part 3 : Test methods. The screen shall be so designed as to minimize a possible risk of injury to the user. All parts of the screen with which the user comes into contact, during intended use, shall be so designed that physical injury and damage to property are avoided. These requirements are met when : - accessible corners are rounded with minimum 2 mm radius, - the edges of the screen with which the user comes into contact are rounded with minimum 2 mm radius, - all other edges are free from burrs and smoothed, - the ends of hollow components are closed or capped, - movable and adjustable parts are so designed that injuries and inadvertent operation are avoided. The manufacturer shall indicate in his instruction manual how to use the screen in combination with add-on elements, as well as the admissible load for each type of screen.
