55 Student Diversity Diversity is at the heart of the University of Colorado Denver s mission, vision and value statements, driving its success in reaching the people and communities it serves. Much of the successful recruitment and enrollment of diverse students at the Denver Campus is the result of strong preschool-20 (P-20) partnerships, the development of precollegiate preparation programs and outreach initiatives such as the Denver Transfer Initiative Title V grant, recent collaborations with Aurora Public Schools and the oncampus residential facility (Campus Village Apartments). At the Denver Campus, 39 percent of the total undergraduate (UG) enrollment is first generation students. The proportion of UG students of color at UC Denver has increased each year since 2005, with fall 2008 having a high of 28.6 percent. Over the last three years, the percent of health professional students of color has remained steady at about 21 percent. While national competition for medical students of color is intense, and UC Denver is developing strategies to attract those students. 54
