The report contains a description of the institute and the whole organisation. The institute is divided in labs and therefore the report also contains a description of the lab I have been affiliated with through my internship. Besides that the report contains a description of my work at the institute, my findings based on conducted user tests and a conclusion on the findings and also on my stay at the Alexandra Institute as an intern. As part of a European project an application has been developed and is used in the Spanish city of Santander. My main task has been to analyse the concept of the application and also to help implement the application in Aarhus. This is done by making questionnaires, conducting workshops and finally summing it all up by sending material about the application to people for them to comment on. The conclusion on my stay at the Alexandra Institute is that working in a real office environment has its pros and cons. It is a different experience being at an office where you have to fit into the already existing environment but at the same time it has been great being at an office surrounded by a lot of different competencies you could discuss different cases with. I would highly recommend other students to include an internship as part of their education.

5 Preface This report is the documentation for my internship at the Alexandra Institute in Aarhus. The internship took place on the 3rd semester of the master of Engineering Psychology in the period The report consists of a description of the Alexandra Institute, the project I have been on, my assignments and a conclusion of my stay at Alexandra. In the back there is an appendix which consists of the preliminary agreement of the internship (Appendix A on page 20), the diary written during my intern ship (Appendix B on page 23) and a letter of recommendation (Appendix C on page 31). I want to give a big thanks to the Alexandra Institute for hiring me as an intern and for showing me great confidence by assigning me my own tasks which I then have been responsible for. During my internship at the Alexandra Institute I have been working on a EU project with Mirko Presser and João Fernandes who have both been my internship supervisors. I want to give a big thanks to both for the teamwork we have had. A thanks also goes to my other colleagues who I have worked with during my stay. I am looking forward to be doing more work together with the Alexandra Institute as part of my master thesis in the spring. 5

7 1. Introduction The contact with the Alexandra Institute was made in the end of April It started with a short mail to the administration with a short description of me and my study. Through that I got in contact with a girl in the so-called Smart City Lab. After an correspondence and a few meetings I was welcomed as an intern at the Alexandra Institute. I was going to be in the Smart City Lab working on a European project helping developing an application for Aarhus with the purpose of helping optimizing the city and the use of it. An application have already been made for the Spanish city of Santander and therefore my job would be to figure out how to fit the application for, and implement it in, Aarhus. We agreed that I should start at the Alexandra Institute in the beginning of September My first day at Alexandra was quit confusing since João, one of my internship supervisors, who had to introduce me to everything, was home with his kid. Therefore Mirko, my other internship supervisor, had to make the introduction but he only had an hour and then he took of for a meeting for the rest of the day. I was introduced to the different labs and people at Alexandra and then told more about the project. The project I had to work on is called; Pace of the City and it is about finding out what people are doing in the city and what is happening in the city. The project started in Spain in the city of Santander. Here they have developed an application where you can create and read about events happening in the city. 1 At the Alexandra Institute they want to implement the application and adjust it to make it fit Aarhus and therefore my main task at the Alexandra Institute has been to analyse the concept of the application, getting inputs from potential users and presenting them with different ideas for the application. In the next chapter there will be a description of the Alexandra Institute as an organisation, the different labs and the project I have been working on in the Smart City Lab. Chapter three will be a description of my work at Alexandra and the tests conducted during my internship and a conclusion of those. Chapter four will consist of my profits from and reflections on the internship at Alexandra and last the appendixes will follow accessed 13/

8 2. The Alexandra Institute A/S The Alexandra Institute was formed in 1999 by senior executives, researchers and representatives from the public authority. It consists of two divisions: one in Aarhus and one in Copenhagen. The division in Aarhus has about 90 employees who are divided in nine different labs, management, accounts department and so on. The Alexandra Institute is a non-profit corporation which means that if the institute makes profit the money earned is then used for new research at the institute. The Alexandra Institute is 100 % owned by the research foundation of Aarhus University and here advanced and innovative IT-solutions are being developed. The development is being made together with the clients of the institute. This is done with different means like user involvement and with the use of the newest IT research. At the institute they offer different competences like counselling, development and employment of IT and technology. The Alexandra Institute is also what is called a GTS (Godkendt Teknologisk Service) institute. The purpose of a GTS institute is to develop and exploit the knowledge contained in Danish companies. GTS institutes are supported by the science Minestry and currently the Alexandra Institute is one out of the nine GTS institutes in Denmark. The purpose is to develop technological services bases on research. 8

9 2.1. THE LABS 2.1 The Labs The Alexandra Institute is divided into four main labs with nine subdivisions of labs. Each of the nine different labs have different focus points. The division can be seen in figure 2.1 on the preceding page. Here it can also be seen that the 9 different labs are: Business Understanding Lab Smart City Lab IT Security Lab Computer Graphics Lab Software Infrastructure Lab Interactive Spaces Lab New Ways of Working Lab Pervasive Positioning Lab Pervasive Healthcare Lab Each lab has its own head of the lab and then different specialist that fits each lab. But sitting in different labs does not mean that you do not work together - teamwork across labs do happen on a large scale Smart City Lab During my stay at the Alexandra Institute I have been located in the Smart City Lab. The online description of the Smart City Lab is: When the city goes digital The mission of Smart City Lab is to contribute to the strategic and technological development of smart cities. The underpinning philosophy of smart cites is to establish a digital layer alongside the urban infrastructure to make data about the city available to citizens, city authorities and industry. How do people use the city? What are the long-term effects of different initiatives on the environment? How can we optimise waste management and resource use? And not least: How can we involve citizens in the process? The vision of Smart City Lab is ultimately to make our lives better. The Smart City Lab offers a number of research-based project collaborations and commercial services targeting citizens, cities, utilities and industry. 1 In other words, the Smart City Lab works on finding ways to optimize the city and the use of it. The results in the Smart City Lab are found based on both qualitative and quantitative studies and is made together with the potential users of the city accessed 10/

10 CHAPTER 2. THE ALEXANDRA INSTITUTE A/S At the Smart City Lab they are working simultaneous on different projects. Some of their biggest projects running at present are: OUTSMART - a EU project on future internet technologies with the theme of environment and utilities in the cities. SmartSantander - a EU project trying to make information about the city easier to get for the citizens and also a way to make a city-scale experimental testbed where you get information about the citizens use of the city. IoT-i - a EU project on Internet of Things which is a key component in smart cities. Ecosense - is a research project about the sustainability of smart cities. Smart Aarhus Think Tank - a way to try to evolve Aarhus into a smart city. 2.2 SmartSantander As part of the FP7-EU project SmartSantander the Smart City Lab are working on a project together with the Spanish city of Santander. In Santander they call themselves a smart city. To evolve and optimize the use of the city they have installed about sensors all over the city. The sensors are collecting data about things like pollution, noise etc. In Santander they have also developed an application called Pulso De La Ciudad or translated the Pace of the City, which is an application where you can read and write about events happening in Santander. The App includes information about 2700 places in the city of Santander divided in different categories: beaches, park and gardens, monuments, Points Of Interest (POI), tourism offices, shops, art galleries, museums, libraries, culture events agenda, shops, public buses, taxis, bikes, parking places, etc. 2 The application is an augmented reality application which means that you use combine reality and computer data. The application gathers information via participatory sensing, that means that the application gets all its information from the users. The application is connected to the municipality and the local newspaper who then also gets information about events happening in the city. At the Alexandra Institute they are working on fitting the application for Aarhus. This fitting involves several user tests where the general attitude can be explored and furthermore the future users thoughts and wishes for an application like this accessed 12/

11 3. Assignments During the Internship During my internship the analysis of the application Pace of the City has been the main task. The application is implemented in Santander in Spain and the application needs to be modified to fit people in Aarhus. Therefore I have conducted several user tests during my stay at the Alexandra Institute to help fit the application for Aarhus. 3.1 Pace of the City The application Pace of the City is made as a part of the FP7-EU project SmartSantander. The project has been started as an initiative to improve the use of the city aiming to make cities into smart cities. The concept of smart cities is about optimizing the city and making relevant information available to the citizens of the city. Through the application people can get information about all kind of events from traffic, to beaches and sport events. The events are posted by the citizens, the municipality and by the local newspaper. Via the application it is also possible for citizens to report if they experience a problem in the city. This could be a hole in the pavement, downed trees etc. With the application the developers are aiming to give the citizens a channel to communicate through. Not just to communicate to the municipality but also between citizens to help share events in the city that way around. An example of the application can be seen in figure 3.1 on the following page. Another aspect of the application is that it gathers data about the city when being used. This could be data like peoples location or the noise level of the city. The point of gathering data through an application is that it gives more knowledge about the city which you might not had been able to get else ways. Even though the use of the data has not yet been decided, hopefully it can give a better insight in the use of the city and maybe new ideas on how to improve the city Questionnaire To test the general attitude towards the application two questionnaires were made; one for the municipality of Aarhus and one for students in Aarhus. These are the two groups that has been chosen as user groups. The students are chosen because they are seen as a group with big interest in events happening in the city and the municipality is chosen because of their hopeful involvement in the project as the ones that have to handle reports from the citizens of the city. At the same time the people from the municipality can also be asked questions concerning them as a common citizen of Aarhus. The purpose of the questionnaire for the students were to find out the attitude towards 11

An example of the Spanish application PulsoDeLaCiudad. this kind of application and to find out what kind of features they would like an application like this to have. The questionnaire for the municipality and the one for the students only differed slightly in the way that the questionnaire for the municipality had to reveal their thoughts about using an application like this at the municipality, since the purpose of the report function is to report problems for the municipality and then having them to react on the enquiry Results from Questionnaires Based on the results from the questionnaires a general positive attitude from the students and the municipality towards the application was found. Both user groups found that the application could be helpful for them as a citizen of Aarhus and also as an employee at the municipality. The respondents from the questionnaire differed a lot in both age and occupation. The age varied from 19 > 45 and occupation from students to working for the mayor or something third. The way the respondents get around in the city differs a lot dependent on whether they are students or work for the municipality. The students use a bike, the bus or walk around whereas a big part of the people from the municipality also get around in car. Common for the two user groups is that most are interested in events happening in Aarhus. 156 out of 159 were interested in events happening in the city and almost the same interest is in an application giving information about events happening in the city. Here the 12

13 3.1. PACE OF THE CITY number was 149 out of 159. Through the questionnaire people were also asked about if they thought including the municipality in the application would be an idea and again people were very positive towards the idea. In addition to getting to know the attitude towards the concept of the application some suggestions for functions in the application and different interest points was also found. The function mentioned most times were a search function with different search parameters to make it easier to find just the event they are looking for. Besides these questions the people from the municipality were also asked some extra questions about the relevance of the application for the municipality where 90 of 105 thought it could be relevant to get information about the city through the application and 100 out of 105 thought it could be relevant to inform through the application. As some additional comments some of the respondents wrote that it could be nice with a chance to help improve the city and the use of it by knowing more about peoples whereabouts in the city. Through the questionnaires the respondents were also asked if they would like to participate in the following workshops and from that we got 10 participants for the workshops Workshops As a follow up on the questionnaires two workshops were conducted; one for the municipality and one for students. The workshop for the municipality were conducted at the city hall and besides the participants we were three people from the Alexandra Institute to conduct the workshop. The workshop lasted a little over three hours distributed on presentation of the project and the concept of the application, group work with scenarios and a joined conversation. The participants of the workshops were at no point presented with the application. The reason for this was that there was no intention of influencing the participants. The workshop with the students had the same structure besides the group work because the number of participants was so small that it made no sense dividing them into groups. Because of the small number of participants I also conducted this workshop alone. The workshop with the students took place at the Alexandra Institute Findings from the Workshops Based on the two workshops it was clear that there was a different view on the application dependent on whether the participants were students or employees at the municipality. At the municipality they could see a lot of positive things in the application but had also a great deal of concern with connecting the municipality with the application. This was mainly because of two things; the one thing was that the application obtains data about the city from the different phones and here people from the municipality were afraid of people thinking that the municipality wants to monitor the citizens. The other thing is that with the report function of the application the municipality are afraid of not fulfilling 13

14 CHAPTER 3. ASSIGNMENTS DURING THE INTERNSHIP the expectations this function can give the citizens. On the other hand the people from the municipality could also see a lot of positive sides of the application both as an employee of the municipality and also as a common citizen. Even though they are afraid of being connected to the application when it obtains data about peoples whereabouts in the city they are also very interested in the data that could emerge from the use of the application. They were also very interested in informing people through the application and to some point getting information about the city from the citizens through the application, but some of the participants from the municipality feared that people would abuse the system. As an overall attitude from the municipality they wanted to know how much money and time they could save if they joined the project - especially because they already have their own application with some of the same functions, namely AarhusGuiden which is an application that can inform the citizens of Aarhus about culture events happening in the city. Looking at the students they did not have the same concerns. On the contrary they were very interested in knowing when the application would be available because they thought it holds some functions that they have been missing, one of them being information about events in Aarhus, especially the events happening right here and right now and also free events. At the same time it was mentioned that they, as citizens, had no idea how to report a problem in the city and therefore never did even though they were actually interested in helping the city to be at its best. Overall the attitude towards the concept of the application was very positive but with reservations Presentation of Application As next step of the project a final gathering was planned. All the respondents who through the questionnaires had expressed their interest in participating in the development of the application was contacted and invited. The day before the final gathering was meant to be conducted I had to face up to the fact that the number of people who had signed up was not big enough. As a workaround I had to cancel the meeting and instead I made a presentation of the application and send to people. An example of one of the slides send to people can be seen in figure 3.2 on the next page The presentation consisted of several screenshots of the application to give people an idea of the layout of the application and also to present some of the functions the application contains. People were informed that the application presented is not the final application but an application in progress. The application was send out to the same people who where invited to the final gathering and a deadline was made for almost a week later. Answers came back from five people where the attitude towards the application was very different from person to person. All the responses came from the municipality. Here several people could see the idea of working together with AarhusGuiden because it is something that people already know. Overall the respondents did not see the problem in gathering data as long as the point 14

One of the respondents was however worried about gathering data as municipality which was the same attitude as in the workshop. The attitude towards future use of the application was fifty/fifty but all five respondents agreed on that if the application should work it have to be very sharp and up to date all the time with no spam. Based on some of the general comments it is clear that the application still has a long way and a lot of very general things still need to be decided, like what to do with data and what is the main goal with the application Discussion and Conclusion The FP7-EU project is a three year long project with different aspects to it, the implementation of the application being one of them. The further work with the application has not yet been decided since the next step is to figure out whether the application should be a part of AarhusGuiden or if the application should be a separate application. Some of the concerns the employees of the municipality had was the part of the application that gathers data about the city through the application and also the report function and posts from citizens in general. As a next step for the application I have to make a study about privacy and the gathering of data to try to figure out how to get people to accept and agree to share data through an application. 15

ASSIGNMENTS DURING THE INTERNSHIP Other tasks As a secondary task of my internship I have been writing an article about Mobile Crowd Sensing (MCS) which is included as one of the main parts in the application. The concept of MCS is obtaining data from a lot of people to get knowledge about e.g the use of the city and the city in general. The data is obtained via an application often with another goal for the user than providing a server with data. The data is obtained by means of the sensors incorporated in the mobile phone wherefore MCS only require the user to download the application. The written paper was submitted to IEEE Communications Magazine and the authors are notified on 1th of March. 1 In the beginning the task of writing the article was given to me for some extra work to have another task to concentrate on once in a while but ended up as a great experience and with the possibility of going to a conference in the spring. The article is written in cooperation with João Fernandes and Mirko Presser where João has been responsible for writing the part about use of servers in Mobile Crowd Sensing accessed 19/12-

17 4. Profit from and reflections on internship As an overall sum up of the internship it has been a great experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Through the internship I have learned a lot of working in a company where you are new and have to learn about routines and working methods. That concerns everything from how to book a meeting with others at the office to joining the joint breakfast on Fridays. The things that have been hardest to figure out are all the things that are routines for people who have been in the company for a longer period because it is not something they think about any more and therefore they do not tell new people about it just because they presume that you already know. Fitting into a new place where people already have routines and you do not know people was my biggest challenge in the beginning of my stay and it took me a while to fit in and learn how things was done and who you should ask for what but once I got to know people, the work at the Alexandra Institute became easier and the whole experience got so much better. But then I faced a new obstacle which was a thing I had to accept through my entire internship; when you are working outside the university with strangers you have no real relation to you cannot always count on people. This part is especially hard when you are working on a deadline like I was because of my last date as an intern. In the beginning of my internship period when getting answers through my questionnaires I was thrilled getting 42 people signing up for my workshops and showing interest in the project but when planning the final gathering and then not being able to get people to respond to your invitation that hit a little hard. As one from the office said: You are still new in the game and you still have faith in people but unfortunately you cannot always count on them. That kind of statement really chocked me but unfortunately she was right. As a positive experience the people I have been working with and my colleagues in general have been really helpful with getting to know the routines at the office and answering any questions I may have had. I have had a boss who had to travel a lot during my stay but when feeling a little lost at the office my other colleagues have been great to step in and help me where I needed it. I must admit that I was really disappointed when not being able to present some proper material as a final conclusion on my internship but I had to make the most of what I got back from people. Looking back on my stay it is amazing how the study of the application ended up. From 17

18 CHAPTER 4. PROFIT FROM AND REFLECTIONS ON INTERNSHIP the plan made on my first day at Alexandra I must say that the plans was changed a great deal. From expecting and planning (together with one of my supervisors) several new versions of the application to only adding few things to the existing application because of whole new obstacles. All in all the project was affected of many things; people not responding or not participating, not being able to persuade the municipality to be a part of the application (at least not yet) and the sudden competition of an already existing application. This all made the original plans hard to follow wherefore the plans for my stay at the Alexandra Institute had to change all the time. Even though it was a problem having to change the plans all the time to get results it has been a good way to learn how it sometimes is working outside the university and have also been part of me learning how to improvise and use other methods when I had to. 18

23 B. Diary På grund af at Mirko skulle ud og rejse blev min opstart på selve Alexandra Instituttet rykket en smule. Jeg blev derfor sat igang med forberedelse til projektet, samt blev sat til at sætte mig ind i projektet inden opstart i Aarhus. Mandag d. 16 september Første dag stod på intro til instituttet og præsentation af de forskellige labs Derefter blev der opstillet en tidsplan over det forventede forløb jeg skal have i Århus. Forløbet kommer til at indebære spørgeskema, workshop og endelig test inklusiv interview. Hovedopgaven på Alexandra bliver at være med til at forbedre en app, der i sidste ende skal hedde MyÅrhus. Appen er pt i en early beta version og planen er, at versionen skal laves til en beta version efter spørgeskemaet er blevet analyseret. Efterfølgende forbedres og opgraderes appen til en beta version, der herefter skal undersøges i en workshop. Denne workshop kommer til at bestå af omkring 5 mennesker for at få de vigtigste kommentarer med og finde de værste fejl. Workshoppen kommer til at være en gennemgang af appen, hvor et device eller flere bliver stillet til rådighed og herefter er der fri leg med appen for at finde ud af hvad folks tanker omkring appen er og hvordan den fungerer og om der er nogle mangler eller noget der er godt der skal bygges videre på. Efter workshoppen skal der laves en opsamling af, hvad der er blevet fundet ud af. Opsamlingen bliver igen sendt videre til programmøren, der herefter vil forbedre og opgradere appen til en version 2. Denne version skal testes i en endelig test, en person af gangen, for at finde ud af om den enkelte kan finde ud af og bruge appen og navigere igennem de forskellige menuer. Ikoner bliver testet og forskellige opgaver bliver stillet for at finde ud af, om forsøgspersonerne kan løse disse opgaver eller om det kræver yderligere forbedring af appen. Tirsdag d. 17 september Anden dagen startede med et møde med Joao, hvor vi gennemgik appen og blev enige om, hvilke ting der skulle undersøges i forhold til appen. Efterfølgende blev en plan lavet for hvilke opgaver han skulle lave, samt Mirko og Jeg. Første opgave blev at oversætte appens beskrivelse og vejledning fra spansk til dansk. Dette blev gjort overordnet hele dagen, hvilket var en god måde at lære appen at kende på. Onsdag d. 18 september Det blev besluttet at opgaven med at oversætte lige så godt kunne laves i Aalborg, så hele dagen var i Aalborg, hvor der blev styr på den danske beskrivelse og oversættelsen. Torsdag d. 19 september 23

24 APPENDIX B. DIARY Dagen blev brugt på opdeling af spørgsmål, der er relevante at stille i det spørgeskema, der bliver stillet op for at afdække uopklarede spørgsmål omkring appen. Hvad vil være folks motivation, hvilken brug vil de have af appen og er de interesserede i at appen kan blive et samarbejde med rådhuset og den lokale avis? Derudover blev der læst mere om projektet og om de kompetencer, der er på Alexandra. Slutteligt blev skelettet for praktikrapporten lavet i LaTeX. Fredag d. 20 september Dagen blev brugt på en finpudsning af oversættelsen. Derudover blev der arbejdet på spørgeskema og en smule på workshop. Forskellige ideer til hvad der mangler i projektet blev også udfærdiget. Over middag blev der holdt møde med João omkring oversættelsen af manualen og hvad det videre arbejde skulle være med manualen. Forskellige ideer blev gennemgået. Mandag d. 23 september Efter aftale fredag blev det påbegyndt at skrive manualen med egne ord, således den senere i forløbet kan blive lagt på en dansk hjemmeside tilknyttet den danske udgave af appen. Derudover blev der forberedt vejledermøde til om tirsdagen og udfærdiget en start ide til, hvordan en bruger kan blive introduceret bedre til appen første gang det bliver benyttet og på den måde gøre, at det ikke er nødvendigt at skulle ind på hjemmesiden og læse den lange manual om appen, hvis man bare gerne vil i gang med at bruge appen med det samme man har hentet det. Derudover blev der givet adgang til rapport over tidligere undersøgelse af appen og holdt et kort møde med Mia, der stod i spidsen for de udførte brugertests under sidste evaluering af appen. Et projekt lavet da appen blev lagt på nettet til at kunne downloades. De tests der er kørt på appen er udført på den spanske udgave, hvilket har givet nogle problemer i forhold til de udførte workshops. Folk har ikke rigtig kunne se appens kunnen da de kun har kunnet opleve begivenheder opdateret fra Spanien. Tirsdag d. 24 september Kort dag på Alexandra, hvor der blev samlet op på lidt løse ender og færdiggjort forberedelse til vejledermøde. Vejledermøde i Aalborg kl med Lars Bo med en snak om appen, praktikforløbet og praktikken fremadrettet. Onsdag d. 25 september Dagen blev brugt på at gennemgå notater fra vejledermøde. Torsdag d. 26 september Dagen blev brugt på at forberede mig til møde fredag med Mirko og João ud fra notater fra vejledermødet, samt egne ideer og tanker. Fredag d. 27 september Fælles morgenmad på Alexandra og derefter morgenmøde med Mirko og João, hvor der blev udarbejdet en plan for det kommende forløb og der blev gennemgået tanker og ideer omkring udviklingen af appen. Hvordan det skal gøres og hvor vi er på vej hen i forhold til udviklingen? Ole (direktøren for Alexandra Instituttet) skal fremlægge for SmartAarhus onsdag i næste uge, så jeg blev sat til at lave en kort præsentation (1 slide) omkring appen, for at beskrive, hvad den skal bruges til, 24

25 hvordan den ser ud og hvad den kan. Sidst på eftermiddagen blev jeg inviteret med til 2*60 års fødselsdag med champagne og tapas inden den stod på weekend. Mandag d. 30 september Dagen stod på læsning af forskellige artikler omkring udvikling af apps, der blev startet på praktikrapport og der blev kigget nærmere på spørgeskema. Der bliver lavet ét til kommunen og ét til studerende de bliver nogenlunde ens, men med flere uddybende spørgsmål til kommunen, da der er flere aspekter i appen for dem. Tirsdag d. 1 oktober Videre arbejde på spørgeskema. Mirko er på forretningsrejse og det er aftalt at spørgeskema(er) skal laves færdige til han er tilbage på mandag, hvorefter han skaber kontakt til de steder, spørgeskemaerne skal sendes ud til. Der laves to spørgeskemaer så de bliver tilpasset brugergruppen (studerende og kommunen) Der blev også kigget lidt på indhold af workshop for at koordinere imellem de to tests. Der blev tjekket for at se om alt bliver dækket og om tingene bliver fulgt op på i workshop i forhold til spørgeskemaet. Onsdag d. 2 oktober Der blev læst mere om tidligere undersøgelser af appen (den spanske version) Torsdag d. 3 oktober Dagen blev brugt på at opstille de to spørgeskemaer og finde ud af, hvad det ønskes at få ud af dem. Fredag d. 4 oktober Dagen blev brugt på snak om app med João og opstilling af spørgeskema på nettet der skulle findes et sted, hvor det var muligt at lave gratis spørgeskemaundersøgelse uden omkostninger. Resten af dagen blev brugt på at få læst om opbygning af apps og folks opfattelse og navigation i hjemmesider og apps. Mandag d. 7 oktober Alexandra statusmøde og præsentation af mig selv på instituttet. Derudover er der blevet aftalt møde for gennemgang af spørgeskema og ellers er dagen blevet brugt på undersøgelse af hjemmesiden for at finde ud af en mulig delvis finansiering af projektet. Tirsdag d. 8 oktober Præsentation af spørgeskema blev lavet inden møde med Mirko og João i morgen. Derudover blev der søgt information om organisationen til praktikrapporten ikke let når der ikke er lavet et organisationsdiagram! Derudover blev der arbejdet videre på arbejdet med kickstarter.com Onsdag d. 9 oktober Læsning om organisationen Alexandra Instituttet A/S. Der blev skrevet mere på praktikrapporten. Ellers er der blevet læst om tidligere projekter på Alexandra og beskrivelsen heraf for at hente inspiration til kickstarter.com. Dagen sluttede med møde med Mirko og João omkring spørgeskemaerne. Torsdag d. 10 oktober Dagen blev brugt på at indføre rettelser i spørgeskemaet efter mødes onsdag, samt 25

26 APPENDIX B. DIARY skrive introduktion til spørgeskemaet. Derudover et kort smut på DSE messe i Gigantium. Fredag d. 11 oktober Møde med João og Mirko om spørgeskema, samt aftale omkring næste uge (begge skal ud og rejse i den kommende uge). Færdiggørelse af introduktion til spørgeskema. Der er fundet en kanal til de studerende i Århus, hvor spørgeskemaet kan komme ud igennem. Mandag d. 14 oktober til fredag d. 18 oktober Spørgeskemaet er sendt ud. Jeg er blevet bedt om at skrive en artikel omkring projektet til IEEE communications magazine. Derfor er hele ugen gået på at læse artikler og forberede artikel, samt starte med at finde indhold til artiklen. Mandag d. 21 oktober Der læses videre på artikler og skrivning af artikel påbegyndes så småt. Tirsdag d. 22 oktober Der arbejdes på artikel. Onsdag d. 23 oktober Der arbejdes på artikel. Torsdag d. 24 oktober Der arbejdes på artikel. Fredag d. 25 oktober Der arbejdes på artikel og spørgeskemaet blev lukket kl. 12. Derudover blev der holdt møde med Mirko og João (Mirko er væk de næste to uger). Der blev derfor aftalt nærmere om indhold af artikel, samt snakket antal besvarelser og indhold fra spørgeskemaer og aftalt nærmere for den næste uges tid. Jeg har fået snakket med Johanne fra vores lab, der har fået tildelt timer til at hjælpe med forberedelse af workshop. Mandag d. 28 oktober Der bliver analyseret resultater fra spørgeskemaer. Tirsdag d. 29 oktober Der blev fortsat på analysen af spørgeskemaer og så blev der besøgt CV workshop ved karrierecenteret. Onsdag d. 30 oktober Der blev arbejdet på analyse af spørgeskemaer og så har jeg holdt møde med Johanne om workshop. Om eftermiddagen var der kaffe og kage i køkkenet for at sige farvel til Louise fra vores lab, der har sidste dag i morgen. Torsdag d. 30 oktober Dagen startede med fælles morgenmad med labbet for at tage afsked med Louise, der havde sidste dag på instituttet. Ellers er data fra spørgeskemaerne blevet analyseret da der skal sendes en opdatering til Mirko og João i morgen omkring middagstid. Fredag d. 31 oktober Der blev arbejdet på artikel og sendt en opdatering til Mirko og João omkring 26

27 workshop og artikel. Første del af artiklen blev sendt med og der er aftalt møde med João på tirsdag for at snakke videre om artiklen. Mandag d. 4 november Har været til vejledermøde og arbejdet med forskellige scenarier i forhold til workshopen. Tirsdag d. 5 november Møde med João omkring artikel og videre arbejde på artikel Onsdag d. 6 november Der blev arbejdet på artikel Torsdag d. 7 november Der blev forberedt workshop og aftalt møde med Mia (hun har kørt workshop over den spanske app i et meget tidligt stadie). Fredag d. 8 november Der blev arbejdet på artikel og forberedt workshop. Derudover har jeg holdt møde med Mia for at snakke nærmere om workshop, hvor der er blevet aftalt datoer og lavet en plan for videre forløb. Samtidig har jeg inviteret Johanne og vores studentermedhjælper Laura til at hjælpe med afholdelsen af workshops. Dagen sluttede af med en snak om artiklen sammen med João, der er gået i gang med sin del af artiklen. Mandag d. 11 november Gennemgang af artikel med João og Alexandra statusmøde. Efterfølgende planlægning af workshop Tirsdag d. 12 november Planlægning af workshop og invitation af workshopdeltagere. Afholdte møde med Mia og Laura omkring workshop. Opgaver der skal laves i forhold til workshop blev aftalt, samt nyt møde næste uge. Onsdag d. 13 november Der er blevet arbejdet på artikel, introduktion til workshop og lavet en tidsplan for opgaver, der skal udføres inden afholdelse af workshop. Torsdag d. 14 november Der er blevet arbejdet på forskellige mock ups til workshoppen. Fredag d. 15 november Der er blevet arbejdet på introduktion til workshop (power point) Mandag d. 18 november Der er arbejdet med at udvælge temaer, der skal gennemgås under workshoppen. Tirsdag d. 19 november Der er blevet arbejdet på artikel og forberedt workshop sammen med Mia. Pga manglende tilbagemeldinger og problemer med tiden for kommunen er det ved at blive arrangeret at workshoppen kan holdes ved dem. Onsdag d. 20 november klippe klistre til workshop 27

Herefter opsamling og sammendrag af erfaringer gjort på workshoppen. Onsdag d. 27 november Lab training dag med workshop om metoder og deliverables. En måde at dele erfaringer og metoder mv på og på den måde få lavet et katalog over, hvordan man opsamler og videreformidler information opnået via forskellige metoder. Torsdag d. 28 november Workshop for de studerende. Efterfølgende blev der indskrevet notater og samlet notater i forhold til kategorier. Fredag d. 29 november søndag d. 1 december Færdiggørelse af artikel, der skal sendes til gennemlæsning af Mirko og afleveres til communications magazine søndag. Mandag d. 2 december Opsamling fra workshops med Mia. Hvor er vi nu og hvad er næste skridt? Tirsdag d. 3 december fredag d. 6 december Opsummering på workshop hvad skal tages med videre og hvordan skal det gøres? Hvad mener folk egentlig med de udtalelser de er kommet med under workshoppen? Mandag d. 9 december Da det blev udtrykt til de to workshops at perioden op til juleferien var en travl periode, blev det valgt først at invitere folk til opsamling i januar i det nye år og der blev derfor sendt en mail til folk om en ny dato i januar. Ellers deling af viden opsamlet på workshops med Mirko og João, samt statusmøde på Alexandra. Tirsdag d. 10 december Vi skal ind på rådhuset og snakke i næste uge og jeg er blevet sat til at lave en præsentation omkring appen og de resultater vi har opnået igennem spørgeskemaer og workshops. Derudover blev jeg hevet med ind til et møde med to fra smart Aarhus samarbejdet den ene vil gerne have oplysninger fra den ene workshops med studerende angående et nyt EU projekt de skal til og skyde i gang omkring Århus som en cykel by. Onsdag d. 11 december Møde med Mirko omhandlende styringsgruppemødet i næste uge på rådhuset. Ellers har der været tid til at arbejde lidt på praktikrapport. Torsdag d. 12 december Mirko syntes jeg havde fortjent en fridag ;) 28

29 Fredag d. 13 december Dagen blev brugt på at læse artikler omkring opsamling af data, privacy settings og ting i samme kategori. Mandag d. 16 december Klargøring til mødet på rådhuset i morgen Tirsdag d. 17 december Der blev skrevet en smule på min praktikrapport og ellers gik dagen med møde nede på rådhuset, hvor konceptet for appen blev præsenteret for deltagerne og brugbarheden af appen blev diskuteret. Derudover blev der sendt notater fra min workshop med de studerende til Birgitte fra rådhuset, der skal være med til at forbedre Århus som en cykel-by. Onsdag d. 18 december Forberedelse af fællesmøde i januar Torsdag d. 19 december Forberede af fællesmøde i januar Fredag d. 20 december Endelig færdiggørelse af fællesmøde samt udsendelse af invitationer til de interesserede. Dagen sluttede af med julehygge med gløgg og æbleskiver og udlevering af julegaver, hvor der blev ønsket god juleferie til alle. Juleferien startede i fredagsbaren med folk fra det storrumskontor jeg sidder i, samt folk fra de omkringliggende kontorer. Lørdag d. 21 december til søndag d. 5 januar Juleferie fra Alexandra. Da Mirko og João begge har holdt ferie i de to uger så de ingen grund til at jeg kørte til Århus for at sidde alene og gav mig derfor to ugers juleferie. Mandag d. 6 januar Planlægning af opsamlingsmødet. Det har været sløvt med at få tilbagemelding fra folk og derfor er der blevet sendt en rykker ud og så krydser vi fingre for at mødet stadig bliver til noget! Tirsdag d. 7 januar Det blev besluttet at der var for få tilmeldinger og at mødet derfor ville være spild af både min og deltagernes tid. I stedet er jeg gået i gang med at lave noget materiale omkring appen, jeg kan sende til folk, som de så kan kommentere på, således at jeg stadig får noget feedback på appen. Onsdag. 8 januar Opsamlingsmødeaflyst, men i stedet blev der arbejdet på materiale til at sende til de folk, der var inviteret til opsamlingsmødet. Torsdag d. 9 januar Fredag d. 10 januar Sidste officielle praktikdag inden næste uge står på at planlægge mit videre forløb på instituttet, samt at finde ud af, hvad vi skal bruge af folks kommentarer på det 29

De arbejder på et projekt omkring personfølsom data og vi har derfor snakket om at dele information videre hen i forbindelse med mit speciale. Derudover fik jeg endelig taget billede til instituttets hjemmeside efter 4 måneder ;) Det er heldigt jeg bliver hernede lidt endnu... Mandag d. 13 januar til fredag d. 17 januar Ugen er gået på opsamling af mit praktikforløb, samt at snakke om det videre forløb med appen og mit fortsatte samarbejde med instituttet, samt med færdiggørelse af min praktikrapport, så den er klar til aflevering.
