53 Visioning Workshop Station 4 Trends Some people were surprised to learn their community had goals. Many goals received strong support (80-100% to continue). Rural character and environmental protection especially strongly supported. In most instances, support was soft for offering a range of housing options. Only about half supported transportation goals like this one: Meet anticipated travel demand with an integrated transportation system.

55 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Purpose Since the county comprehensive plan and our local government plans will be built off of existing adopted land use plans, we wanted the public to become more aware of the goals outlined in these adopted plans and to voice their opinion on their value to continue or modify these goals.

56 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Countywide Workshop Results I envision Washington County to be A A place where people can live, work, and play while preserving agriculture, open space, and each community s sense of place. A A safe place where people can live, work and enjoy a quality of life that is better than average. Having a government that is responsible to its community and sensitive to the use of natural resources. A A place where the quality of life is the result of good planning, where people can live close to employment, schools, recreation and shopping. Also, a place where agriculture can thrive without interference from development.

57 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Countywide Workshop Results (cont d) I envision Washington County to be Crime-ridden ridden bedroom community lacking in sustainable economic activity. Having a balanced comprehensive plan that balances all 9 elements with emphasis on agricultural economic needs. Having thoughtfully planned development near main highways, with some large areas of agriculture, high quality business and jobs, giving a great quality of life.

Rural A place to escape the high concentration of people in the city and be secure that growth/development won t t take place here. empowered to protect its residents from the rapacious development and geopolitical incursions of the City of Hartford! A A community where the quality of life is evident due to the good planning and vision regarding preservation of prime farmland, important natural resources, density of housing and transportation routes.

61 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Village of Kewaskum Workshop Results I envision the Village of Kewaskum to be A A village that has some industry and jobs versus being a bedroom community; a community that values its young people and provides good schools for them; a place that offers good library services in an expanded building or new building; a village that looks out for its citizens and looks ahead, beyond its next budget! A A wonderful place to live and raise a family.

62 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Village of Kewaskum Workshop Results (cont d) I envision the Village of Kewaskum to be What was once a nice community is now growing out of control. The appropriate place for new businesses is where the Village Center was supposed to be built, but now there are condos and houses being planned on that site. As for the population estimates of 9,000+ people in the next 5 years that was reported at the Waste Water meeting, the estimate is completely ridiculous and is not a good reason to spend $10.8 million.

63 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Village of Kewaskum Workshop Results (cont d) I envision the Village of Kewaskum to be Get the dogs and bikes off the sidewalks so people can enjoy a walk without getting ran over or chased by a dog. Check dog liscensing too. Most are liscensed. A A safe place to live. It should have services such as police, fire protection, library, etc. It should also have limited growth (so schools sizes can keep up) and plenty of green space.

64 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Village of Kewaskum Workshop Results (cont d) I envision the Village of Kewaskum to be Goal #5 We need a bypass for Highway 45. Goal #6 We should look at the fire chief position I think it is a little early for a full-time chief. Goal #7 We should be planning and get started on up grading our library (new library in Kewaskum). I I lived in Kewaskum since 1973 and have had to drive to Milwaukee to support my family because wages are too low here attract more business paid workers on public project prevailing wages and enforce it.

65 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Village of Kewaskum Workshop Results (cont d) I envision the Village of Kewaskum to be As a new resident, I believe you need to look at the lack of industry on the Hwy. 45 corridor. A lot of people leave here to work. Need the industrial development to help pay for the growth already here. It s s a great quaint community that is a very nice place to live. Pave the bike path and more bike traffic will come and add to economy. Some room for industrial development to have some better paying jobs in the area. More restaurants not just fast food. Niche retail to fit the village image. Too close to West Bend for bigger retail. Keep growth measured to insure quality of living.

What was once a quiet and friendly community is gone. We need to slow down the growth and stop the developers from ruining this village any further!! Kewaskum has grown mainly because families are moving here from Milwaukee to get away from the problems they had there, mainly traffic, crime, racism and high cost of living. Now the same problems are brought out to our community, and they still have to drive to Milwaukee to work.

To me we need to go and get businesses to move here and hire people for jobs. We do not need anymore rich people to come buy up land and divide it for new homes. I I would like to see NO more residential growth in Kewaskum would like to see Hwy. 45 south of town rerouted around town. Would like 2 nd or 3 rd opinion on the engineering waste water treatment plant.

68 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Town of Polk Workshop Results I envision the Town of Polk to be a a community that is environmentally friendly, preserves its agricultural roots, welcomes and promotes natural activities (such as horseback riding, hiking, and fishing ), +5 acre residential lots, and is a place where families can raise children and live the rest of their lives in a home and community they love. All future buildings should be environmentally friendly and easy on the earth. No more highway expansion to encourage more high speed traffic. Accept the tractors, the smells and the wildlife.

69 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Town of Polk Workshop Results I envision the Town of Polk to be I I would like to see a community more friendly to pedestrians and cyclists, more attendance at town meetings, and more willingness of citizens to get involved with local politics and run for office. Source for providing gravel thru preservation of mining sites. a a place for residential sites appropriate for subdivisions according to Title X to prevent villages from annexing properties and creating small sites for development.

70 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Town of Polk Workshop Results I envision the Town of Polk to be Hope to see the Town of Polk retain as much of the rural atmosphere as possible. Preservation of the woodlands to Cedar Creek of the lakes. The loss of any of this will turn us into a suburb of Milwaukee. Our community should be safe, family friendly and provide hunting, fishing, parks, biking, hiking and all outdoor activities. Do we have a pool for winter use by residents? We should. We should have the best schools. Would like to see the Village of Slinger not to expand any further than they are. Also a stop n n go light on Hwy. 60 and Hillside.

71 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Town of Polk Workshop Results I envision the Town of Polk to be I I envision the Town of Polk to be a community that has preserved its rural character and limited growth to the areas near Jackson and Highways 41/45. It is my hope that our children and grandchildren will be able to have corridors of preserved forests, prairies, and wetlands to enjoy. I envision a community that promotes and encourages horses and other livestock without restrictive and prohibitive guidelines. To resist the urban sprawl and promote nature above personal profits for developers will be a lofty and worthwhile goal.

More preservation by woodlands and farmland. Maintain the rural atmosphere of the Town! Save our wetlands. We need the aquifers for our groundwater. We do not need an airport expansion which would destroy this area, and its groundwater.?

73 Visioning Workshop Station 5 Town of Wayne Workshop Results I envision the Town of Wayne to be Balanced residential and business growth while preserving our rural character, environment and agriculture. And utilize our major highways for rural residential and business development (and hamlets) and preserve farmland other areas. Rural community primarily farming and rural home sites with some businesses in the hamlets on farms and along the transportation corridors. It would be good to have windmills and a modern communication network.
