Overall content Detailed description of content Teaching and working methods Expected work effort (ectsdeclaration) Ethnography and visualisation represent a further development of the methodology course in the first module. They provide advanced knowledge and skills in representing and visualising various types of fieldwork within GISbased maps and architectural illustrations. The students learn to perform field work for companies or organisations. The course is organized around the use of photography and GIS in ethnography and visualization within ethnography and architecture. The course consists of lectures and student exercises in photography, GIS and architectural visualization at Roskilde University and 16-hours fieldwork at the Meat Packing District, Copenhagen. The fieldwork is based upon a commercial case brief outlined by the head of the Meat Packing District and the responsible teachers. To be allowed to take the examination, the student must have an at least 80% attendance record on the course and participate actively in the fieldwork (registration conditions). If the student fails to live up to the conditions for registration, the re-examination takes the form of a completed assignment which includes fieldwork and a written product. An examination cannot substitute for attendance at classes associated with practical exercises. Re-examination cannot therefore substitute for the above. Form of examination Individual, set, 72-hour written home assignment. The assignment takes the form of a visual representation task, in which students must demonstrate advanced skills in visual representation, graphics and communication. The assignment must contain a minimum of five and a maximum of fifteen self-produced visual representations. The length of the assignment must be between a minimum of 4,800 characters, including spaces, and a maximum of 9,600 characters, including spaces. The size specifications include the cover, table of contents, bibliography, figures and other illustrations, but exclude any appendices. Papers that fail to meet the size specifications will be refused assessment, and one examination attempt will be deemed to have been used up. There will separate exercises for advanced users. InDesign is used for lay outing books, posters, brochures etc. The program can also be used to make simple diagrams, editing maps and photographs. Students will get an introduction to the computer program and afterwards you will get a chance to practice InDesign under guidance. SDS: K3: Ethnography and Visualisation - Lectures 8 and 9: Photoshop oshop and architectural visualizationation 17-10-2018 10:15 til 17-10-2018 17:00 Sara Bjelke ( sabje@ruc.dk ) The lecture introduces students to architectural visualization and Photoshop There will separate exercises for advanced users Photoshop is used for editing and manipulating images, making collages by cutting different images together as well as adjusting colors, etc. You will get an introduction to the computer program and afterwards you will get a chance to practice Photoshop under guidance. This workshop will give students skills to work with photos in Photoshop as well as knowledge of the sort of aesthetic guidelines that govern the production of visual representations amongst architects. We will work with professional architectural images and with the photographs produced during the fieldwork.
