SunBox Technical Presentation SunBox integrated & compact SHS : the main elements are gathered in a polyethylene housing Technical Presentation 4
SunBox - Battery Technical Presentation The SunBox is equipped with a sealed, gelified battery which doesn t need any maintenance no control of the electrolyte level and no refilling with distilled water. Expected lifetime: 10 years if the indicated daily power consumption is respected. High stability of the battery due to three separate fixing belts. Three capacities are available: - SB100: 100Ah - SB130: 130Ah - SB185: 185Ah 5
SunBox - Controller Technical Presentation Technical caracteristics: Nominal Voltage : 12V Solar module current : 10A 3 load terminals of 5A each Regulation type : PWM with 2 modes of regulation: constant current charging and constant voltage charging (floating) Models : SunControl: The basic controller version without prepayment system. This version is targeting the direct sales into the private market SunPay: The basic controller version contains a payment managing system through an electronic key. The SunPay is designed for rural electrification projects with SHS,who require cash collecting of monthly fees and handling of several hundred clients. 6
SunBox - Controller Technical Presentation The controller has 3 independent load terminals. In case of deep discharge, the load terminals are cut off progressively one after another. This way, the end user is warned that the battery has reached a low level of charge and avoids to be suddenly without electricty. Each load terminal is protected by an electronic fuse - no replacement of mechanical fuses, which is the main source of failures and manipulations. The controller is integrated inside the SunBox. The front panel of the controller is visualizing the system status : charging, deep discharge, short-circuits and the credit status of the SunPay version. 7
SunBox - Installation The solar module and the jonction box for the loads are connected with the SunBox by two irreversible 12 Volt automotive plugs. Technical Presentation The power supply cable to the solar module and the junction box are prefabricated in the factory. This makes the installation and the commissioning of the system very easy. The risk of wrong connexions and bad contacts is excluded 8
SunBox - Installation Technical Presentation The Plug&Play method makes the installation fast and easy. No need of training solar specialists it can be done by every building electricien. To guide the installer, the 3 load terminals of the jonction box are marked by pictograms (lights & TV) The SunBox is designed as a furniture and can be placed everywhere in the house even in the living room. 9

SunBox Rural Electrification Rural Electrification In most cases, big scale rural electrification projects by SHS (often subsidised by governments), require partly contribution of the beneficiary in order to finance the system, for example, by the payment of monthly fees. The operator s task is to assure the collection of the fees and to set up a system to administrate the payments and the clients. The SunBox SunPay version has been designed for this kind of applications. Its functionality can be modified and adapted to each kind of operation model desired by the operator: - credit sales - fee for servicing - electricity sales 11
SunBox Rural Electrification The end user pays the monthly fee at the local agency which reloads the credit key named I-Button. Rural Electrification The charged credit key has just to be placed on the contact point of controller front panel and the system is releasing the load terminals. Once the credit is expired, the system interrupts the loads. At each recharge of the key, the technical parameters of the SHS will automatically be transmitted to the operator In case of irregularities, the data status of each client allows to determinate the cause. 12

SunBox Rural Electrification Project Tools Handhold unit SunCollect The SunCollect is the main tool of the local operator. Rural Electrification Equipped with rechargeable batteries it allows a great mobility. Flexibility of recharging the key via two standard modes of programming : - adding one month of credit - fixed deadline Instant visualization of the SHS system parameters (power consumption control) 14
SunBox Rural Electrification Data analyse Project Tools The memory of the SunCollect allows to store the data of several hundred systems. After the transfer to a computer, all data can be analysed by a software. It is possible to establish a power consumption status for each client. SunBox Rural Electrification Online tool mysunbox Project Tools For large rural electrification projects, the customer data can be made available via internet. The project manager (for ex. the electricity utility) has access to the database and can display all needed data (power consumption graph, payment status...) at any time and from any place of the world. Rural Electrification 16
SunBox Rural Electrification Project Tools Customer passport with credit stamps The SHS - SunPay is delivered with a «Customer Passeport» (book in A6 format) which the client receives after the installation. At each recharge of the key, the local operator sticks a adhesive stamp at the reserved zone in the booklet. Rural Electrification This allows the user to verify his account status of payments. The operateur buys a block of stamps at the central headquarters. With this method, the transfer of the funds can be controlled and booked in a easy way. The passeport contains as well a zone reserved for eventuel technical interventions. 17
