Tuborg s headquarters were built in 1912 1 as a characteristic and exclusive representative for the international trends of the time. When Anton Rosen s administration and laboratory building was completed, it was considered to be a true Gesamtkunstwerk with an impressive wealth of details. In 2007, when Realea A/S, now Realdania Byg, took over the listed building, it was soon quite evident that extensive rebuilding work, especially in the 1960 s, had removed, covered and erased much of the building s detailing and fixtures. It appeared amputated and deprived of its logic. In a dialogue with the client, the Heritage Agency of Denmark and Gentofte Municipality s building authorities, the project participants reached an agreement that the building would not achieve its true meaning unless it was restored to Rosen s special universe. An analysis of the source material from Carlsberg s archives such as photos from the building s first year thus came to form the basis for an extensive reconstruction and restoration with the goal of bringing the building back to life. It emerged that functional features like spatial relations, indoor climate, sound and light would be considerably improved by a reconstructive approach, and that the house might actually become a splendid setting for a thoroughly modern workplace if the original ideas were reintroduced.
