Parts which do not have an item number may not be readily identified in the illustration but are usually closely associated with the immediately adjacent part. ASSEMBLIES A complete assembly, e.g. a wheel motor or hydraulic motor or roll assembly, is listed as a complete item with subsequent individual components listed separately. 6 3 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS RANSOMES HYDRAULIC 5/7 Mk IV Series: DM, CD, DL This safety symbol indicates important safety messages in this manual. When you see this symbol, be alert to the possibility of injury, carefully read the message that follows, and inform other operators. 3.1 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Ensure that the instructions in this book are read and fully understood. No person should be allowed to operate this machine unless they are fully acquainted with all the controls and the safety procedures. Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions to use this machine. Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator. 3.2 SAFETY SIGNS It is essential all safety labels are kept legible, if they are missing or illegible they must be replaced. If any part of the machine is replaced and it originally carried a safety label, a new label must be affixed to the replacement part. New safety labels are obtainable from Ransomes dealers. 3.3 STARTING THE ENGINE Before starting the engine check that the brakes are applied, drives are in neutral, guards are in position and intact, and bystanders are clear of the machine. Do not run the engine in a building without adequate ventilation. 3.4 DRIVING THE MACHINE Before moving the machine, check to ensure that all parts are in good working order, paying particular attention to brakes, tyres, steering and the security of cutting blades. Replace faulty silencers, mow only in daylight or good artificial light Always observe the Highway Code both on and off the roads. Keep alert and aware at all times. Watch out for traffic when crossing or near roadways. Stop the blades rotating before crossing surfaces other than grass. Remember that some people are deaf or blind and that children and animals can be unpredictable. Keep travelling speeds low enough for an emergency stop to be effective and safe at all times, in any conditions. Remove or avoid obstructions in the area to be cut, thus reducing the possibility of injury to yourself and/or bystanders. When reversing, take special care to ensure that the area behind is clear of obstructions and/or bystanders. DO NOT carry passengers. Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property. When the machine is to be parked, stored or left unattended, lower the cutting means unless the transport locks are being used. While mowing, always wear substantial footwear and long trousers. Do not operate the equipment when barefoot or wearing open sandals. After striking a foreign object. Inspect. the lawnmower for damage and make repairs before restarting and operating the equipment. If the machine starts to vibrate abnormally, check immediately. 3.5 TRANSPORTING Ensure that the cutting units are securely fastened in the transport position. Do not transport with cutting mechanism rotating. Drive the machine with due consideration of road and surface conditions, inclines and local undulations. 3.6 LEAVING THE DRIVING POSITION Park the machine on level ground. Before leaving the driving position, stop the engine and make sure all moving parts are stationary. Apply brakes and disengage all drives. Remove the starter key. 3.7 SLOPES TAKE EXTRA CARE WHEN WORKING ON SLOPES Local undulations and sinkage will change the general slope. Avoid ground conditions which can cause the machine to slide. Keep machine speeds low on slopes and during tight turns. Remember there is no such thing as a safe slope. Travel on grass slopes requires particular care. GB-4

7 3 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS RANSOMES HYDRAULIC 5/7 Mk IV Series: DM, CD, DL 3.8 BLOCKED CUTTING CYLINDERS Stop the engine and make sure all moving parts are stationary. Apply brakes and disengage all drives. Release blockages with care. Keep all parts of the body away from the cutting edge. Beware of energy in the drive which can cause rotation when the blockage is released. Keep other people away from the cutting units as rotation of one cylinder can cause the others to rotate. 3.9 ADJUSTMENTS, LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE Stop the engine and make sure all moving parts are stationary. Apply brakes and disengage all drives. Read all the appropriate servicing instructions. Use only the replacement parts supplied by the original manufacturer. When adjusting the cutting cylinders take care not to get hands and feet trapped when rotating cylinders. Make sure that other people are not touching any cutting units, as rotation of one cylinder can cause the others to rotate. To reduce the fire hazard, keep the engine, silencer and battery compartments free of grass, leaves or excessive grease. Replace worn or damaged parts for safety. When working underneath lifted parts or machines, make sure adequate support Is provided. Do not dismantle the machine without releasing or restraining forces which can cause parts to move suddenly. DANGER - Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, WILL result in death or serious injury. WARNING - Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, COULD result in death or serious injury. CAUTION - Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, MAY result in minor or moderate injury and property damage. It may also be used to alert against unsafe practices. IMPORTANT: Transport speed is for highway use only. Never select transport speed on grass areas or uneven or unsurfaced roads or tracks. The operating Instructions for the Cutting Units are contained in a separate Publication. WARNING Before releasing transport latches it is important that all cutting units are fully raised. 1. Park the machine on level ground. 2. With the engine running at operating speed raise the cutting units to their maximum position by operating lift levers whilst seated in the driving position. 3. Disengage drives, stop the engine and make sure all moving parts are stationary. Apply brakes and remove the starter key. 4. transport latches can now be released. 12 5 LUBRICATION RANSOMES HYDRAULIC 5/7 Mk IV Series: DM, CD, DL LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE. 5.3 MACHINE: First 50 hours then Every End of Season. Change Hydraulic Oil. (a) Remove Drain Plug (A) and drain the oil completely. (b) Change hydraulic oil filter. (c) Replace the drain plug and fill hydraulic tank with approx. 82 litres of Shell Tellus 46. Change Hydraulic Oil Filter. (a) Wipe filter canister and housing to remove any dirt present. (b) Place a suitable drip tray under the filter. (c) Unscrew filter and dispose of safely. (d) Replace with new filter canister. (e) Coat the top outside lip of the filter canister with a thin film of oil, fill filter with clean hydraulic fluid and refit the filter canister. (f) Filter should be replaced before refilling hydraulic tank. Change Gearbox Oil. (a) Lower Cutting Unit Number 1. (b) Remove Drain Plug (C) and drain the oil completely. (c) Replace the drain plug and fill (D) gearbox with 0.5 litres of Shell Spirax G (80W 90). GB-10

13 5 LUBRICATION RANSOMES HYDRAULIC 5/7 Mk IV Series: DM, CD, DL LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE. 5.4 MACHINE: Lubricate/Check the following points weekly or every 40 working hours. 1. Lubricate the following with Shell Darina R2 grease. Also refer to the Lubrication Diagram section 5.2. (a) (b) (c) Lift arm pivots (A). Power Take Off Swivel (B). Power Take Off Clutch (C). 2. Lubricate the following with SAE30 oil: Divertor Valve spools. 3. Check all nuts and bolts and hydraulic connections for tightness. 4. Check for excessive wear/play in the bushes fitted to the divertor actuator mechanism, lift arm to cam divertor mechanism and the lift arm pivot pins. 5. Check for excessive wear/play in the transport hooks. 6. Check divertor alignment. See Adjustments. 7. Check cutting unit cylinder cutout height. See Adjustments. 8. Check security and condition of weight transfer springs. GB-11

14 5 LUBRICATION RANSOMES HYDRAULIC 5/7 Mk IV Series: DM, CD, DL LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE. 5.5 CUTTING UNIT: Lubricate the following points weekly or every 40 working hours. (Refer to separate cutting unit manual for end of season lubrication) 1. Lubricate the cutting unit with Shell Darina R2 grease: Refer to the Lubrication Diagram section 5.2. (a) (b) (c) (d) Cutting unit pivot bar housing. (A) Cutting cylinder bearing and housing pivots. (B) Height adjustment sleeves. (C) Front (Not Shown) and Rear rolls, rotate the roll continuously during lubrication. (D) 2. Lubricate the following using Rocol Anti- Seize: (a) (b) Cutting cylinder clamp pivot. (E) Cutting cylinder adjusting screws. (F) NOTE: When washing machine with pressure spray washers or steam cleaners, avoid washing bearing areas because cleaning solutions might penetrate bearing seals and cause premature bearing failure. 15 5 LUBRICATION RANSOMES HYDRAULIC 5/7 Mk IV Series: DM, CD, DL LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE. 5.6 HYDRAULIC TEST PORTS If any problems are experienced with the hydraulic system, 4 service test ports are provided to enable pressures to be checked. All tests, unless stated otherwise, should be carried out with the hydraulic oil at normal working temperature, and gearbox input speed set to 540 rpm. 1 1) Cutting Circuit Pressure, Units 4 & 6: 152 bar. 2) Cutting Circuit Pressure, Units 1,2 & 3: 207 bar. 3) Cutting Circuit Pressure, Units 5 & 7: 152 bar. 4) Lift Circuit Pressure: 152 bar. 2 NOTE: Any servicing of the hydraulic system must be carried out by trained service personnel. 3 4 GB-13

16 6 ADJUSTMENTS RANSOMES HYDRAULIC 5/7 Mk IV Series: DM, CD, DL ADJUSTMENTS 6.1 DIVERTOR ALIGNMENT/ADJUSTMENT 1. Lower all cutting units to the ground. 2. By moving the actuator up and down the alignment between the bolt head (B) and divertor spool (A) can be checked. 3. The divertor valve can be moved from side to side by releasing the divertor bolts and can be spaced out by adding or removing washers from between the divertor valve and divertor plate. Align the bolt head and divertor spool to achieve maximum contact between them. 4. When the divertor valve is activated (cutting unit stops rotating) there should be a 1mm gap (G) between (A) and (B). To check gap ensure spool (A) is fully depressed into divertor valve. Prior to checking gap, rotate the cam (D), by loosening (E) and (F) so profile area (C) is actuating on the divertor actuator bearing. Adjust bolt (B) to give the 1mm gap. 5. Re-tighten the cam (E),(F) check operation. 6.2 CUTTING UNIT CUTOUT 1. Ensure the Hyd 5/7 rear unit is at the correct height on the tractor three point linkage. (See Safety & Operators Manual) When a cutting unit is lifted the cylinder should stop rotating when the cutting unit bottom blade is no more than 400mm above the ground level. CAM ADJUSTMENT 2. The cylinder cutout can be adjusted by turning the cam (C). The cam should be rotated looking at photo (cam adjustment) clockwise to reduce the height the unit cuts out and anticlockwise to increase the height at which the unit cuts out. 3. Rotate the cam by loosening (E) & (F) and turn the cam by hand. 4. Check operation by tightening (E) & (F) and check the cylinder cuts out by running the units and lifting before any part of the bottom blade reaches 400mm. GB-14

17 6 ADJUSTMENTS RANSOMES HYDRAULIC 5/7 Mk IV Series: DM, CD, DL ADJUSTMENTS 6.3 SPRING ADJUSTMENT/REMOVAL Springs are factory set and should not require adjustment. WARNING Stored Energy In Lift Arms Can Cause Serious Injury. Only Experienced Personnel Should Attempt Cutting Unit Removal Or Spring Adjustment. The springs are set to achieve 30kg of lift at the cutting unit pivot pin.(a) Without this lifting force cutting units may not lift. To measure the spring lifting force a spring balance can be used. First measure the weight of the cutting unit fitted to the lift arm with the lift arm in the work position and no spring force acting on the lift arm. The spring balance should be attached to the cutting unit pivot pin.(a) Add or remove spring tension on the smaller springs until a cutting unit weight of approximately 30kg less than the weight previously measured is achieved. If springs are adjusted they must not go through more than 130 degrees of deflection when in work. 1. The large spring fitted to lift arms 6/7 can not be adjusted. The tension in the spring can be removed by raising the lift arms and fitting the transport locks. The large spring is now safe to remove. 2. Remove spring retainer(b) and slide the large spring clear of the retainer plate.(c) The spring is now free from the lift arm. 3. Fitting is reversal of removal. The smaller springs fitted to lift arms 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 are adjustable. They should be adjusted with the lift arms raised and the transport locks on. 4. The tension in the springs can be removed by carefully levering out the spring lock.(d) Keep hands clear, extra care should be taken as there is stored energy in the spring. Once the spring lock is removed there is no more tension in the spring. 5. To add or adjust the tension, use a 78mm spanner on the large hexagon spring lock nuts.(e) Turn the spring lock nut(e) to relieve the pressure on the spring lock(d), remove spring lock(d) and turn spring lock nut(e) one flat at a time, then replace spring lock.(d) GB-15

18 6 ADJUSTMENTS RANSOMES HYDRAULIC 5/7 Mk IV Series: DM, CD, DL ADJUSTMENTS 6.4 BACKLAPPING Routine cylinder backlapping is part of a general maintenance plan for cylinder mowers. NOTE: Even when the engine is OFF, rotating one cylinder may cause the others to rotate. Use the following procedure with the engine off and the cylinders disengaged. 1. Wash the cylinders and bottom blades. 2. Slightly back off the cylinder to bottom blade adjustment. 3. Apply lapping compound to the cylinders BEFORE starting the engine and engaging the cylinders. NOTE: DO NOT apply lapping compound to cylinders UNLESS the engine is off and the cylinders disengaged. DO NOT apply lapping compound to rotating cylinders. 4. Lower the cutting units so they are firmly on the ground, apply the parking brake, place the cylinder control switch (A) in the backlap position. With the operator in the operating position, start the engine. DO NOT run the engine in an enclosed area. 8. For a finer cut, file across the front face of the bottom blade to remove any burrs from the sharp edge. 9. Adjust the cylinder to bottom blade (see cutting unit manual). A B 5. Run the engine at idle speed. Start the PTO. Engage the reel drive (B) from the operators position on the machine. The engine revs may need to be increased to allow the units to engage but then should be returned to idle to limit cylinder speed. 6. Backlap reels for several minutes, periodically disengage cylinder drive, shut off engine and check the blade condition. Add additional backlapping compound and adjust cylinder to bottom blade clearance. Return to the operating position and continue backlapping until all blades are uniformly sharp. 7. Disengage cylinder drive, shut off engine and thoroughly wash all backlapping compound from cylinders and bottom blades. Apply a thin coating of oil to all sharpened surfaces. GB-16

19 7 REMOVAL RANSOMES HYDRAULIC 5/7 Mk IV Series: DM, CD, DL REMOVAL 7.1 REAR HYD 5/7 REMOVAL Refer to Safety & Operators Manual 7.2 CUTTING UNIT REMOVAL WARNING Stored Energy In Lift Arms Can Cause Serious Injury. Only Experienced Personnel Should Attempt Cutting Unit Removal Or Spring Adjustment. Before cutting unit removal a lift arm restraint tool should be used. 1. To restrain lift arms 1,4 & 5 use the shorter lift arm restraint tool.(b) For lift arm 1 the lift arm restraint tool should be fitted between number 1 lift arm and number 4 transport lock lever. To restrain lift arms 6 & 7 use the longer lift arm restraint tool.(c) To restrain lift arms 2 & 3 use lift arm restraint tool.(d) 2. Park the machine on a level flat surface. Lower the cutting unit to be removed. Fit the relevant lift arm restraint tool between the lift arm transport latch pin and the transport lock lever. Fit the R-clip.(A) Adjust the turn-buckle so the lift arm is held firmly in position. Cutting unit can now be removed. Care should still be taken not to stand over the lift arm. 3. Once the cutting unit has been removed, if the lift arm restraint tool is to be removed before refitting of the cutting unit an assistant will be required. The lift arm will have approximately 30kg of upward force at the lift arm end. The lift arm should be held down so the restraint tool can be removed, keeping body clear from above the lift arm, then slowly let the lift arm raise into the transport position. 4. Refitting is a reversal of removal. GB-17

Nye advarselsmærkater kan fås ved henvend-else til Ransomes reservedelsafdeling. 3.3 SÅLEDES STARTER MAN MOTOREN Inden man starter motoren, skal man kontrollere, at bremserne er slået til, kraftoverføringen er i neutral, skærm-pladerne er i stilling og intakte, og at der ingen andre personer befinder sig i nærheden af maskinen. Motoren må ikke køre i en bygning, medmindre der er tilstrækkelig ventilation. 3.4 SÅLEDES KØRER MAN MED MASKINEN Inden man begynder at arbejde med maskinen, skal det kontrolleres, at alle dele er i god driftsmæssig stand, især bremser, dæk, styretøj og skærestålets sikkerhedsværn. Defekte lyddæmpere bør udskiftes. Slå kun græs ved dagslys eller god kunstig belysning. Husk altid at overholde færdselsreglerne både på og udenfor vejbanen. Ved kørsel over eller i nærheden af en vej bør man have opmærksomheden henvendt på trafikken. Inden der køres hen over andre belægninger end græs, skal knivene standses. Vær hele tiden på vagt og årvågen. Husk, at der er folk, som er enten døve eller blinde, og at børn og dyr ofte kan være uberegnelige. Sørg for at farten er lav nok til at foretage en effektiv og sikker katastrofeopbremsning til enhver tid og i alle situationer. Fjern eller undgå forhindringer på området, der skal klippes, så hverken du selv eller eventuelle omkringstående kommer til skade. I bakgear skal man især passe på, at der ikke findes forhindringer og/eller andre personer bag maskinen. Der må IKKE medbringes passagerer. Husk, at føreren/brugeren har ansvaret for eventuelle ulykker og skader der påføres andre mennesker eller deres ejendom. Når maskinen parkeres, oplægges eller efterlades uden opsyn, skal slåmekanismen sænkes, medmindre transportlåsene er i brug. Under arbejdet bør man altid have solidt fodtøj og lange bukser på. Undgå at arbejde med maskinen uden fodtøj eller med åbne sandaler på. Opsamleren bør undersøges hyppigt for slitage og forringelse. Hvis maskinen støder mod noget, bør den straks undersøges for skader. En eventuel reparation skal foretages, inden den startes igen. Hvis maskinen begynder at vibrere unormalt, bør dette straks undersøges nærmere. 3.5 TRANSPORT Kontroller, at skærestålene er fastmonteret i transportstilling. Må ikke transporteres med roterende klippemekanisme. Under kørslen skal der tages hensyn til vejens og overfladens art, tillige med skråninger og lokale undulationer. 3.6 SÅLEDES FORLADER MAN KØREPOSITIONEN Parker maskinen på et jævnt område. Inden man forlader kørepositionen, skal man slukke for motoren og kontrollere, at alle bevægelige dele er faststående. Slå bremsen i og udryk alle drevene. Tag startnøglen ud af tændingen. 3.7 SKRÅNINGER VÆR ISÆR FORSIGTIG UNDER ARBEJDE PÅ SKRÅNINGER Lokale undulationer og fordybninger ændrer skråningens almindelige udseende. Undgå jordforhold, som kan få maskinen til at glide. Maskinens kørehastighed bør holdes nede på skråninger, og når der drejes skarpt. Pludselig hastighedsnedsættelse eller opbremsning kan få baghjulene til at løfte sig fra jorden. Husk, at der er ingen skråninger, der er sikre. Ved kørsel på græsskråninger skal der udvises stor forsigtighed for ikke at risikere at vælte. DK-4

Håndbremsen skal trækkes, an og alle drev kobles fra. Blokeringer løsnes med stor forsigtighed. Sørg for, at ingen del af kroppen befinder sig i nærheden af skæret. Husk, at der somme tider er kraft tilbage i drevet, som kan give rotation, når blokeringen frigøres. Sørg for, at ingen er i nærheden af skærene, da rotation i blot én cylinder kan få alle de andre til at rotere også. 3.9 JUSTERINGER, SMØRING OG VEDLIGEHOLDELSE Stands motoren og kontrollér at alle bevægelige dele står stille. Håndbremsen skal trækkes an, og alle drev kobles fra. Læs alle relevante betjeningsanvisninger. Benyt altid kun reservedele, som er leveret af den oprindelige fabrikant. Ved justering af knivcylinderne skal man passe på ikke at få hænder og fødder i klemme, når cylinderne drejes rundt. Kontroller, at uvedkommende ikke har adgang til skærene, da rotation i blot én cylinder kan få alle de andre til at rotere også. For at reducere brandfaren bør motoren, lyddæmperen og batterikammeret holdes fri for græs, blade og større mængder fedt. Af sikkerhedshensyn bør slidte og beskadigede dele udskiftes. Når der arbejdes under løftede dele eller maskiner, skal man sørge for tilstrækkelig understøtning. Maskinen må ikke demonteres, medmindre man først har udløst eller begrænset eventulle kræfter, som kan få delene til pludseligt at bevæge sig. FARE - Angiver en overhængende faresituation, som, hvis den ikke undgås, VIL forårsage dødsfald eller alvorlig personskade. ADVARSEL Angiver en potentiel faresituation, som, hvis den ikke undgås, KAN forårsage dødsfald eller alvorlig personskade. VIGTIGT: Normal kørselshastighed er kun beregnet for kørsel på offentlige veje og må ikke vælges for kørsel på græsområder, grusveje eller stier. Skæreenhedernes driftsvejledning findes i en separat publikation. ADVARSEL Før transportlåse udløses, er det vigtigt, at alle klippeenheder er hævet helt. 1. Parker maskinen plant. 2. Lad motoren køre med driftshastighed, og hæv klippeenhederne til maksimumposition ved hjælp af løftearmene, mens du sidder i førersædet i kørselsposition. 3. Udkobl drev, stands motoren, og sørg for, at alle bevægelige dele står stille. Aktiver bremserne, og fjern startnøglen. 4. Transportlåsene kan nu udløses. ADVARSEL Hydraulikvæske, der undslipper under tryk, kan gennemtrænge huden og forårsage alvorlig skade. Der skal straks søges lægehjælp. ADVARSEL Batterier danner eksplosive gasser og indeholder tærende syre og afgiver elektriske strømniveauer, der er høje nok til at give forbrændinger. ADVARSEL Batterielementer, terminaler og relateret tilbehør indeholder bly og blybaserede blandinger VASK HÆNDER EFTER HÅNDTERING ADVARSEL Lagret energi i liftarmene kan medføre alvorlige skader. (b) Skift af hydraulikoliefilter. (c) Genmonter aftapningsproppen og fyld hydrauliktanken med ca. 82 liter Shell Tellus 46. Skift af hydraulikoliefilteret (a) Aftør filterskålen og -huset for at fjerne eventuelt snavs. (b) Anbring en egnet spildebakke under filteret. (c) Skru filteret af, og bortskaf det på en forsvarlig måde. (d) Udskift med den nye filterskål. (e) Påfør filterskålens øverste, yderste læbe en tynd oliefilm, fyld filteret med ren hydraulikvæske, og monter filterskålen igen. (f) Filteret bør udskiftes, før hydrauliktanken fyldes på ny.
