10 The Spring Collection H.A. Brendekilde s young woman holding a little girl s hand is shown on a bed of the first anemones in a bright beech forest, as a sign of emerging spring, almost upon us after a long, dark winter. Just like the anemones, which announce brighter times to come, Bruun Rasmussen once again sees optimism taking root. Here, at the start of the year, we have observed positive and renewed confidence in the art market, with increased activity in items consigned to us, and for the first time in 18 months, auction prices have stabilised and risen. I believe we are gradually moving towards a market that is flourishing once again just like Emil Nolde s red tulips! We look forward to presenting our spring collection at the preview in Bredgade. Forårets kollektion H.A. Brendekildes unge kvinde med en lille pige i hånden står på et tæppe af de første anemoner i en lys bøgeskov som tegn på det spæde forår, der nu er på vej efter en lang og mørk vinter. Lige som anemonerne, der varsler lysere tider, mærker Bruun Rasmussen igen en spirende optimisme. I starten af foråret har vi iagttaget en positiv fornyet tillid til kunstmarkedet med øgede aktiviteter på indleveringssiden, og for første gang i 18 måneder ser vi en stabilisering og stigning i auktionspriserne. Jeg fornemmer, at vi igen er på vej i retningen af et marked, der atter blomstrer som Emil Noldes røde tulipaner! Vi glæder os til at fremvise forårets kollektion på eftersynet i Bredgade. 22 Stor Kongensgade faience tray decorated in underglaze blue, centre with galant scene and landscape, sides with trimmings, rocailles and ornaments, signed at back JP for Johan Pfau, B = B 118 for painters signature and 5 Rd for 5 rigsdaler. The period of Johan Pfau Tray mounted in a Rococo wallnut table decorated with rocailles and cabriole legs. H. 73. L. 70. B. 53. Tray tables were very popular in the 18th century when drinking coffee, tea and cocoa became fashionable. The St. Kongensgade factory, which existed for 40 years, produced many pretty tea table leaves with different ornamentation. Literature: A. Øigaard: Fajancefabriken i Store Kongensgade (the Store Kongensgade faience factory), reproduction of poster LXIII. They seldom become warped during firing, they become slightly curved, slightly irregular, but for each tray table leaf, the cabinetmakers have produced a table, naturally, in contemporary styling in which the leaf sits securely, supported in all its curves and irregularities. Provenance: Has belonged to Major Iver Christoffer Krabbe ( ), whereafter the commode was inherited by Minister Viggo Starcke ( ). Tove Clemmensen, 11 June 1954: "The wood craftsmanship is above standard for Ortmann's furniture. Fine dovetailing of drawers, the fine arched corner pilasters, the magnificent one-piece back panel. Wood crafted like door panelling. No other cabinet?makers have used the peculiar sliding feet. Very beautiful piece." Similar commode at The David's Collection, Copenhagen. 35 A danish Louis XVI walnut and oak long case clock, brass dial with chapter ring of pewter, movement with moon phase, minute- and date disposal. dial signed Peter green, 1732, Abenrade. First part of the 18th century. H. 240 cm. Among the best-known of the North Schleswig clock makers is Green of Åbenrå, or Apenrade, according to his inscription on the clocks. The family can be traced back to the English clock maker Peter Green, who emigrated with his wife and children from Liverpool to Åbenrå, Denmark, around 1745 and worked there until his death in He had two sons, William and Jonathan, who also became clock makers in Åbenrå, and finally William had a son Jakob, who continued making clocks until his death in In other words, the Green clocks span a period of more than a century, but only the clocks from the first years are of a high standard. France, first half of the 19th century. H. 106 cm. diam. 44 cm. Pierre-Philippe Thomire ( ) began his career as a sculptor, but decided to become a bronze-caster like his father, and became one of the most famous of his generation. He worked for Pierre Gouthière and benefited greatly from that artist's instruction, and when he considered he had sufficient experience, he opened his own workshop. However, his major breakthrough came when he started collaborating with Jean-Claude-Thomas Duplessis, artistic director of the Sèvres porcelain factory. When Duplessis died in 1783, Thomire assumed his role and was responsible for all gilded bronze ornaments used in the factory's production. Thus he was fully occupied with these tasks during the French Revolution, when many others had the misfortune to go bankrupt. In 1809, Thomire was commissioned to supply exquisite bronzes to Napoleon s palaces, and was subsequently appointed Ciseleur de l empereur" ("Engraver to the Emperor"). A few years later, his workshop was described as Fournisseur de leurs majestés ("Purveyors to Their Majesties"). Thomire s workshop survived the fall of Napoleon, and he continued to accumulate medals and accolades at the renowned Paris Exhibitions.
