The tour begins in Battery Park with Ben van Berkel s New Amsterdam Pavilion and Fred Schwartz Whitehall Ferry Terminal. From Frank Gehry s first high-rise cycle over the Brooklyn Bridge to the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights and to DUMBO, a neighborhood located under the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge with many artist studios and galleries. The tour continues through the sleepy neighborhood of Vinegar Hill to the recently booming neighborhoods of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill with projects by Steven Holl, Hanrahan Meyers and David Adjaye, and through the Ultra- Orthodox Jewish South Williamsburg with religiously-influenced architecture to the new, rapidly developing East River promenade. From there it proceeds through Greenpoint to PS1, one of the oldest and largest non-profit contemporary art institutions in the US, converted by Frederick Fisher in Long Island City, Queens. Soundwalks Soundwalk represents the efforts and experiences of individuals who grew up, lived, worked, played or were otherwise moved by the aura and ultimate reality of a certain neighborhood. Listen closely to these narrators that have humbly given their time to be part of such a project and allow you to explore their hood, their home, their lives, and to challenge your preconceptions. Times Square Stocks, Booze, Greed, Cold Cash The Narrator: Timothy Speed Levitch is a tour-adventurer, self-described sherpa guide to the sences and a playwriter. As a playwright, his work is consistently performed Off-Off Broadway. 2. Meatpacking District Butchers, Designers, Transvestites, Promoters The Narrator: Ivy is an unconventional art therapy student. Ivy began as an art fueled special events producer by night, set stylist and make-up artist by day. 3. Ground Zero A Sonic Memorial Soundwalk The Narrator: Paul Auster is a novelist, screenwriter, poet, New yorker - best selling writer of eleven novels. In the aftermath of September 11 2001, Auster added his distinct and original voice to NPR s Sonic Memorial Project, a nationwide collaboration that came together to chronicle the life and history of The World Trade Towers. Now, from the vantage piont of Ground Zero, Paul Auster leads us through the streets. 4. Wall Street Stocks, Booze, Greed, Cold Cash The Narrator: Johnny Solitto knows the hell and glory of Wall Street only too well. Accountant for Goldman Sachs & Company, he mads his exit and set off in his persuit of his artistic muse and never looked back no matter how broke he was. Johnny s work (fiction and short films) has earned him praise, award and Secret Service award. 5. Chinatown Opium Dens, Sweatshops, bucchist Temples, Chinese Mob The Narrator: Jami Gong was born and raised in New Yorks s Chinatown. He is a comedian and has performed in various clubs, and iss now living as a successful fulltime performer. 6. DUMBO - Brooklyn The Roofs, The Art, The Boxing Ring, The Chocolate The Narrator: Asa Mader is a young independent filmmaker living and working in NYC. Asa is currently preparing his next film, his first feature to be shot in full colour on the streets of India. 12
