Her i efteråret 2008 fejrer Bruun Rasmussen Kunstauktioner husets 60-års jubilæum og markerer dette med en lang række auktioner, herunder denne internationale auktion over ældre malerier, tegninger og grafik. Det er med stor glæde, at vi her kan fremvise et udvalg helt ud over det sædvanlige. Trods de strenge kvalitetskrav, som har ligget til grund for udvælgelsen, er det blevet til næsten 500 numre. De mange værker præsenteres i dette katalog samt i separatkataloget Trésor - 60 år med udvalgte numre, som indleder auktionen tirsdag den 18. november kl. 18. Med så megen udsøgt malerkunst er det næsten umuligt at fremhæve noget frem for andet. Jens Juel, Martinus Rørbye, C.W. Eckersberg, Christen Købke, I.C. Dahl, Vilhelm Hammershøi, Michael Ancher, P.S. Krøyer og Paul Fischer. De er der alle sammen, flere med et rekordstort antal værker. Eksempelvis er Eckersberg repræsenteret med intet mindre end 14 malerier og tegninger og Hammershøi med ni arbejder. Ud over dette udvalg af dansk kunst fra guldalderen og frem til og med skagensmalerne, finder man tillige et udbud af Old Masters samt europæisk maleri fra det 19. århundrede. God fornøjelse!
It is autumn 2008 and Bruun Rasmussen is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the venerable auction house with a number of auctions, including this international auction representing Old Master and 19th century paintings, drawings and graphics. It is our pleasure to present this selection of outstanding works, which are presented here as well as in the separate catalogue Trésor - 60 Years featuring selected works to open the auction on Tuesday, 18 November, at 18:00. With so much exceptional art set to go under the hammer, it is almost impossible to highlight any one work over another. Jens Juel, Martinus Rørbye, C.W. Eckersberg, Christen Købke, I.C. Dahl, Vilhelm Hammershøi, Michael Ancher, P.S. Krøyer and Paul Fischer all are represented, several of the artists with a record number of works at auction. For example, Eckersberg is featured with no less than 14 paintings and drawings, and Hammershøi is represented with nine works. In addition to this fine selection of Danish art ranging from the Golden Age to the Skagen painters, you will also have the opportunity to encounter a selection of Old Masters and European painting from the 19th century.

Muller is considered to be a typical representative of a generation of Dutch artists that were profoundly influenced by the mannerists Cornelis Cornelisz van Harlem (1562-1638) and Hendrik Goltzius (1558-1617). Muller's engravings were mainly inspired by the works of Goltzius, but it is not known, whether he was actually apprenticed to Goltzius in Haarlem. Muller's will and inventories record that he also painted. Muller executed an engraving, signed and dated 1593, with the same motif and stylistic execution as the painting here. The Museo del Prado in Madrid confirms that the painting very likely originated in the workshop of the Tintoretto family, that it can be dated back to the beginning of the 17th century and that the canvas is Venetian. The artist Axel Nygaard gave this painting to his brother's grandchild, Johan Malling, as an acknowledgement of his efforts as a member of the Danish resistence during World War II. Bernhard Keil, also called Bernardo Keilhau or Monsù Bernardo, was a very cosmopolitan artist. He was born in Denmark, son of a German painter working at the Court of King Christian IV. Keil is wellk-nown, among other things, for being the only Danish student and assistant of Rembrandt van Rijn in Amsterdam (1642-1644). Rembrandt van Rijn had a profound influence on the stylistic development of Keil. After many years in Amsterdam, where he opened his own studio and taught young artists, he moved to Venice in 1651. He spent some successful years in the north of Italy where he obtained commissions for portraits, decorated palaces and was employed by churches and religious orders. In 1656 he went to Rome where he stayed until his death. This painting is characteristic of the style he developed in Rome. This charming winter townscape with skaters depicts the Nieuwe Brug (The New Bridge) and the Paalhuis (A Tollhouse), both constructed in the second part of the 14th century. The buildings were part of a larger complex that was built to protect Amsterdam from both water and enemies. Bassi went to art school in Bologna and after having finished there he went to Rome in 1810. Buyers of Bassi's works were distinguished foreign visitors to Rome such as Elisabeth Hervey, Duchess of Devonshire, King Ferdinand IV of Naples, Prince Heinrich of Prussia, Count Esterhazy and Lady Bentinck. The sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen owned 4 paintings by Bassi, today in the Thorvaldsen s Museum in Copenhagen. A correspondence between Bassi and Thorvaldsen indicates that they knew each other, maybe introduced to each other by the sculptor Canova who also owned paintings by Bassi.
