First, we watched the beginning of "Maria full of grace" to find out why people want to immigrate to the US. We also talked about the American dream and what it takes for it to come true, and we discussed whether the notion is just a myth or not. We focalized mainly on the African Americans and the Chicanos, and we watched "Gran Torino" with two different purposes: to illustrate the problems among the different minority groups and to talk about the immigration as seen from a white (Polish) man's point of view. We read texts from the 60's and the 80's and listened to parts of an interview with Nadine Gordimer to fully understand the situation during the Apartheid regime.
