Framework - waste Authorities EU (waste directive) The Danish EPA - Regulation of waste and environment Denmark without waste the governments vision for waste Aarhus Municipality: Regulations for household waste and Regulations of industrial waste Waste plan for the municipality of Aarhus Environmental approval for incineration plant and other waste handling plans Affaldshieraki Miljømæssigt bedste løsninger Forebyg spild Genbrug produkter Genbrug materialer Brug som brændsel Deponi Mindst ønskede løsninger
Why?
Waste and sustainability Our consumption of raw materials is large and increasing Production of food, electronics, clothes, etc. leads to consumption of hidden resource.
Aluminium Fakta: Aluminium fra Bauxitler: 85 ton materiale-input pr. ton færdig råvare Aluminium, genanvendt: 3 ton materiale-input pr. ton færdig råvare Desuden: Der spares 9 tons CO 2 når man genanvender 1 ton aluminium = 90 % energibesparelse Kilde: www.mindthetrash.dk (kredsløbet)
Plastic 5-6% of crude oil production is used for production of plastic More than 1000 types of plastic Long degradation time in nature (500 years) Plastic waste in the sea - plastic islands Micro plastic from degradation, creams, clothes, tires, etc. 1 t recycled PE and PET plastic saves 2,9 t CO 2
Hidden resource consumption Hidden resource consumption = The consumption of resources incl. waste products the product has caused throughout its life. Environment Foto: Paulo Santos/AP Work environment
How?
Household waste Management In Aarhus Municipality we have 7 recycling centres, 2 facilities for recycling construction waste and garden waste and 1 incineration plant In 2015 we collected 230,000 tonnes of waste in the municipality, mainly from households. 59 % was sent to recycling, 39 % was incinerated, 1 % was deposited and 1 % was sent to special treatment The waste provided 16 % of district heating
Waste plan 2015-2018 www.sorter-mer.nu I.e. - Sorting of metal and plastic and more paper/cardboard - Mobile sorting-container in the center of Aarhus - More attention on our bulky refuse solution (Storskrald) - Reuse recycling and exchange of stuff
