Kort intro til den elektroniske tavle: En berøringsfølsom skærm, som man kan skrive på. Det, man skriver, kan gemmes og senere trækkes frem igen. Skærmen åbner mulighed for at bruge lyd, tekst og billeder i samme software. SMART Boardets styrke ligger helt klart i formidlingen af et fagligt stof via synet og hørelsen. 2

2 INTRODUCTION MAN ER UP TO DATE MED SIN UNDERVISNING On November 4th, 2008, Barack Obama became the first African American to be elected President of the United States after defeating John McCain from the Republican Party in the general election. With his Kenyan father and white American mother, his upbringing in Jakarta and Honolulu, and education at Harvard Law School, Obama differs from those African American politicians who began their careers in the 1960s through participation in the civil rights movement. Barack Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996 and in 2004 he resigned following his election to the US Senate. On Feb 10th, 2007, Obama Barack Hussein Obama 1961 announced his candidacy for President of the United States. In one of his campaign speeches in Oct 2007 he acknowledged his youthful image and referred to John F. Kennedys inaugural address saying: "I wouldn't be here if, time and again, the torch had not been passed to a new generation." A popular catch phrase distilled the concept: "Rosa sat so Martin could walk; Martin walked so Obama could run." In his victory speech, delivered in Grant Park in Chicago, Obama proclaimed that "change has come to America." 9

2 INTRODUCTION Gillian Clarke was born in Wales, UK, 1937. Besides being a poet she is also a playwright and translator (from Welsh). After graduating in English from University of Wales she worked as a freelance writer. In 1990 she was a co founder of Ty Newydd, the writers' centre in Wales. Three of her books have received The Poetry Book Society Recommendation. At present she teaches creative writing at the University of Gillian Clarke 1937 Glamorgan and visits schools to give poetry days to children and adults. She also gives readings and lectures. 12
