Charlotte Fogh Gallery har den store glæde at præsentere Katja Bjørns soloudstilling The Source. Udstillingen er kunstnerens anden soloudstilling i galleriet og viser en nyproduceret videoinstallation, skulpturer og fotografier, der alle handler om transformation - om forvandling fra en tilstand til en anden. Udstillingens centrale omdrejningspunkt er kilden Rauôamelslaug på Snæfellsnes i Island. I en stor omfattende videoinstallation følger vi mødet imellem fire islandske kvinder og tre iranske kvinder i alderen 15-60 år, og den forvandling de gennemlever i kontakten med hinanden og kilden. Katja Bjørns videokunst har igennem det sidste årti konsekvent handlet om mennesket og i særlig grad kvinden og hendes position på tværs af samfund og kulturer. Igennem storladne videoinstallationer skaber hun vedkommende, eksistentielle fortællinger om menneskets relationer. Som noget nyt har fotografiet fået en væsentlig rolle i Katja Bjørns kunst, der modsat videoernes narrative handlinger, trækker i retning af mere universelle og tidsløse tilstande. Udstillingens fotografier er iscenesatte fiktioner af en nøgen kvinde i en kilde i den islandske natur der bringer tankerne i retning af myter, riter, altings ophav, moder jord, jordens skød - kort sagt alt det som ligger latent i os, men som vi oftest fortrænger i vores moderne kultur. Siden 2004 har Katja Bjørn særligt markeret sig med en unik form for videoskulpturer, der kombinerer hverdagens genstande med video, hvori hun udforsker krydsfeltet imellem videoens narrative rum og skulpturens form i relation til menneskets krop. Oftest optræder kunstneren selv i videoerne. Værkerne tager udgangspunkt i den nøgne krop som symbol på menneskets eksistentielle grundvilkår og de hermed følgende associationer; seksualitet, forgængelighed, skrøbelighed, tiltrækning, afsky, fødsel og død. Samtidig iscenesætter de følelser der ofte opstår i mødet med menneskets krop f.eks. i forhold til voyeurisme. Katja Bjørn er repræsenteret i samlingerne på Randers Kunstmuseum, Horsens Kunstmuseum, Kvindemuseet i Århus og Århus kommune Charlotte Fogh Gallery has the great pleasure to present Katja Bjorns solo exhibition "The Source ". The exhibition is the artist's second solo exhibition at the gallery and shows a new video installation, sculptures and photographs, all about transformation from one state to another. The exhibition's focal point is the source Rauôamelslaug on Snæfellsnes in Iceland. In a large comprehensive video installation, we follow the meeting among four Icelandic women and three Iranian women aged 15-60 years, and the transformation they are experiencing in touch with each other and the source. Katja Bjorn's video art has over the past decade consistently been about people and especially the woman and her position across communities and cultures. Through grandiose video installations she creates existential tales of human relations. The photography has taken a new role to Katja Bjorns art, that otherwise the narrative of the videos are pushing toward more universal and timeless modes. The exhibition's photographs are staged fictions of a naked woman in a spring in the Icelandic nature that brings to mind in the direction of myths, rites, mother earth- in short, everything that is latent in us, but we often displaces in our modern culture. Since 2004, Katja Bjorn particularly distinguished herself with a unique form of video sculptures that combine everyday objects in video, in which she explores the interface between the video's narrative space and sculpture form in relation to the human body. Most often the artist performs in the videos. The works are based on the naked body as a symbol of man's existential conditions and the likely associations, sexuality, transience, fragility, attraction, disgust, birth and death. At the same time staging the feelings that often arise in the encounter with the human body, for example related to voyeurism.
