Making the supply chain agile to deliver products quickly and cost-effectively is the key. The supply chain touch points need to be assessed to ensure the business is demonstrating it can react to change whilst delivering high quality products in an unpredictable market. For the international business the emerging markets are an area that can reduce costs and improve efficiencies throughout the supply chain; however the emerging markets come with new risks and uncertainties that require strong management and control. Understanding and visualising the supply chain and the transitionary nature of costs throughout it is the key to being able to reduce the costs by implementing efficiencies, whether these efficiencies are geographical re-alignment, stocking policy changes or procurement assessments of transportation outsourcing; without the knowledge and information to back up the decisions, any attempt to improve efficiencies is unlikely to result in a reduction of cost.
