I think we handled it reasonably well considering the stress levels and the oven struggled to keep up. Volunteers are still needed so don t be shy, come and help us. We were kept busy in the kitchen at the Fastelavn party event on the following Saturday with strong support from our young members. Tea offers smallgoods and quality meats from Flemming, the Danish butcher at Woolloongabba, as well as her own goodies including remoulade. Det var en Lørdag Aften... Fastelavn Party Saturday 11 February 2012 The club house filled with more than 50 kids all dressed up as fairies and princesses, pirates and pixies, a lady bird, dinosaur and dragon, ninja warrior and many others and with over 60 adults accompanying the kids, it was a full house. We started out with KUPALEJA entertaining with a range of Danish children s songs used for decades to teach Danish kids the Danish language and it s good exercise to work up some appetite for the main event The Bashing of The Barrel! In the good old days, the barrel held a live black cat but these days we fill the barrel with goodies much better. All were encouraged to share the spoils and it was good to see bigger kids, who had a good result from their barrel bash, share the goodies with smaller kids good on you for sharing. And we had popcorn everywhere. Our Danish baker s famous Fastelavnsboller were a great success and sadly we ran out way too early. We order them last minute from Rene based on the number of bookings, but a lot of people turned up in the last minute, hence the shortage of Fastelavnsboller. But at least there were enough hots dogs and ice cream cones for everyone. The event concluded with the crowning of the best-dressed boy and girl congratulations to Noah for his minimalist, but innovative costume and to Tilde in her lovely ladybird outfit. Fraser Coast Cultural Festival 24 25 March 2012 Community Spirit In 2011 the international community was brought to its knees with natural disasters, which had a devastating impact on a number of communities throughout the world. In their 2012 celebrations, the Fraser Coast Cultural Festival will celebrate the unity demonstrated by the international community in coming together to help those in need. While the impact of those natural disasters is still being felt today, it is the human spirit and sense of community that shone through as the common thread. Every country wanted to help; even if they were also recovering from the impact of disasters themselves. It was one of the greatest demonstrations of humanity of this generation. The Fraser Coast Cultural Festival will be held on the Fraser Coast on 24 and 25 March 2012. As an international festival in the heart of regional Queensland, we want to pay tribute to the communities that have worked together to overcome incredible obstacles and recognise the demonstration of community spirit internationally. The Big 70 th Birthday Bash Saturday 4 th February 2012 2011 and 2012 saw many members of the folk dancing group (and Heimdal) turning 70 (and even 80) and they thought it would be a fun idea to have a huge party to celebrate. Heimdal was asked if the event could be accommodated and catered for and a working group sorted out the menu and entertainment. The birthday boys and girls: Flemming Brinkmann, Gudrun Tvede, John Bowen, Lis Larsen, Hans Jorgen Arendt, Marilyn Bowen, Merete Larsen (hidden) Elizabeth Ling, Lennart (hidden) and Pat Christensen The event proved to be very popular, attracting 100 birthday girls and boys, their friends and families, so with the stage for the entertainment and room for dancing, seating was tight and we couldn t have fitted more people in.
KUPALEJA entertained before dinner and Ronnie Christie strummed and sung away and sent eager dancers spinning on the dance floor. Note from Lis Larsen: En stor tak til Lone, Søren, Alan og deres team for den dejlige aften, I satte i scene for folkedansergruppen med flere den 4. februar 2012. Det var jo en helt fantastisk opbakning, vi fik, og jeg kan forstå, at vi kunne være blevet endnu flere, hvis der havde været plads. Vi syntes selv, at det var en skøn fest og snakker stadig om den, når vi mødes. Vi har fået alletiders feedback fra alle vi har været i kontakt med. Gruppen oppe fra North Lakes var helt overstrømmende i deres begejstring over at være blevet inviteret til at deltage og har allerede spurgt, hvornår den næste fest bliver afholdt. Så jeg er sikker på, at det ikke er sidste gang, vi ser dem deltage i et af klubbens arrangementer. A big thank you to Lone, Søren, Alan and the team for organising such a wonderful evening the 4 February 2012. It was a fantastic night and unfortunately some people missed out due to the event filling up early. We all thought it was a great night with our favourite musician Ronnie Christie playing and with our own Kupaleja to start the night out. We had good feedback from the North Lakes group; they have already asked when we are having another one? Since its January meeting, the club has received: Correspondence - Insurance renewal quote, general increase as well as increase because of higher contents insurance value - Brisbane City Council has granted the club a 25% discount on 2011/12 council rates - QLD Government has granted $2,500 in support of the Scandinavian Festival in September - Invite for event at Dutch Club Events January was a relatively quiet month with all users taking a break. Our Wednesday yoga class stopped at the end of the month. Strong interest in booking the hall primarily for Saturday events, but we have also had bookings for events on weekdays and Sundays. New equipment and maintenance A new meat slicer has been bought together with new red and purple table cloths for the new tables. Peter has replaced the box around the alarm and Alan replaced the ceiling tiles in the kids room. He also cleaned the air conditioning filters and gave the floor a fresh coating of varnish. A huge improvement. We still need to have a look at the sound system Peter and Alan will check the loudspeakers and find out if they can be fixed or replaced the sound is pretty scratchy. The cash register is on its last legs. The lighting in the club has been playing up recently and once the new lamps arrive in March, we ll need an electrician to check the lighting thoroughly. We had some water damage again to ceiling tiles during the recent strong rainfalls. Lights in courtyard also need replacement. The condition of the fascia still needs to be checked as Soren is working on quotes etc for replacing the asbestos roof. He will also obtain quotes for an awning or similar for the court yard. Money Accounts for first seven months are still showing a small surplus. Membership 5 new members came on board in the last period. Reaching the 200 member mark is still proving elusive, with about 20 members who haven t renewed their membership for 2011-2012 yet.
Lidt historie om Danmark og danerne Hvornår blev Danmark til? For de tidlige danske historieskrivere gik riget tilbage til den fjerne sagntid, da deres historier begynder. I modsætning til i mange andre lande berømmes ingen historisk kendt konge for at have skabt det rige, som omkring midten af 900-årene omtales på de to kongelige runesten i Jelling. I nogle lande synes der at være en forbindelse mellem rigsdannelse og kristendommens indførelse, f.eks. i Norge og Sverige, men det gælder ikke Danmark. Rigsdannelsen kan belyses af nogle få skriftlige kilder, men i dag giver også arkæologien oplysninger om forløbet. Rigsdannelsen var utvivlsomt en lang, dramatisk og ujævn proces. Generelt gik udviklingen formentlig fra indbyrdes uafhængige stammesamfund, over vekslende stammeforbund med en overkonge fra den ledende stamme, til et egentligt kongerige med fælles konge. Det skete sandsynligvis under påvirkning og pres sydfra i forbindelse med indgribende politiske, økonomiske og samfundsmæssige ændringer og gennem mange kampe. Processen tog fart i yngre romersk jernalder (3-400-årene e.kr), og i 500-årene var der måske et rige bestående af stammeforbund ledet af danernes konge og med en udstrækning omtrent som i vikingetiden. Gennem tiden ændredes kongemagtens indhold, opgaver og rettigheder samt rigets styreformer givetvis mange gange, og både i vikingetiden og senere er der eksempler på, at der var flere konger på samme tid, og at riget var delt og igen blev samlet. Riget eksisterede i et kompliceret spil mellem udenlandske magters periodevise ekspansionsbestræbelser, en national eller nordisk identitet, konkurrence om tronen blandt kongeslægtens unge mænd, praktiske behov for enhed, og regionale forskelle og ambitioner. Betegnelsen danerne og danernes konge (på latin: rex danorum) kendes tilbage til 500-årene, hvor danerne må have været en førende stamme indenfor det senere rige, og fra og med slutningen af 700-årene, da der jævnligt var konfrontationer med Frankerriget, omtales danernes konge tit i frankiske kilder. En af disse konger var kejser Karl den Stores modstander Godfred, og det blev noteret, at han i året 808 lod opføre en vold tværs over Jyllands rod ved den fælles grænse. Det må være en udbygning af Dannevirke. Ingen andre konger end danernes er omtalt i de frankiske kilder i relation til det, som var det danske område i sen vikingetid, men alligevel diskuteres det stadig, om de kun var konger af Jylland. Markante udviklinger omkring år 700 tyder på, at Danmark allerede var samlet til ét rige på den tid. Øget vareproduktion og store nye handelsnetværk i Nordeuropa gav nye muligheder for stort udbytte og overskud og viser samtidig, at der var magthavere, som kunne opretholde fred på markeder, landeveje og sejlruter. Store bygværker blev opført til forsvar af sydgrænsen og kontrol af de indre danske farvande. Det gælder de ældste faser af Dannevirke fra omkring år 700 og den 500 m lange Kanhavekanal på Samsø fra år 726. Kanalen tillod hurtig passage af skibe fra den dybt indskårne Stavnsfjord til havet vest for øen. Skibe stationeret her kunne dermed kontrollere en stor del af søfarten. I 6-700-årene udvikledes desuden sejlførende skibe i Norden. Det er en forudsætning for udøvelsen af effektiv kontrol af et område med mange øer som Danmark magten over danske farvande var en forudsætning for riget. Det var også i århundrederne før vikingetiden, at Danmark fik nye naboer. Slaviske folk bosatte sig syd for Østersøen, og Frankerriget erobrede Frisland og Saksen. Den ældste omtale af Danmark (Denemearc) som betegnelse for et geografisk lokaliseret rige er fra ca. 890 og findes i to beretninger til Alfred den Store, konge af det sydengelske rige Wessex. Her beskrev den nordnorske høvding Ottar bl.a. sin sejlads fra Skiringssal (Kaupang) i Sydnorge til Hedeby ved den danske sydgrænse, mens købmanden Wulfstan berettede om sejlads fra Hedeby og østpå. Navnet Danmark betyder egentlig danernes mark, dvs. danernes område eller land, eller danernes grænseområde (måske oprindeligt grænseskov). (kilde: www.danmarkshistorien.dk)
Prins Charles og hertuginde Camilla på officielt besøg i Danmark fra 24. til 27. marts.»besøget tager udgangspunkt i de historiske og diplomatiske bånd mellem de to lande og vil blandt andet sætte fokus på grøn teknologi og nye muligheder for samhandel«, skriver kongehuset i en pressemeddelelse. Dronning Margrethe og prins Henrik vil være værter for det engelske kronprinspar under deres ophold i Danmark. Og programmet er tæt pakket. Kongehuset oplyser, at prins Charles og hertuginde Camilla blandt andet skal besøge Avedøreværket, boligområdet Gyldenrisparken og Kastellet, hvor der vil blive hilst på soldater, der har været udsendt til Afghanistan. Derudover skal de besøge et universitet for at se på grønne initiativer og økologisk landbrug samt følge en Hamlet workshop, der er organiseret af 'The Royal Shakespeare Company' på Kronborg Slot. Det er ikke første gang, prins Charles har besøgt Danmark - han var også på officielt besøg i december 2009. Derimod er det hertugindens første officielle besøg i Danmark. Besøget i Danmark afslutter prins Charles og hertuginde Camillas rejse rundt i Norden, som er en optakt til dronning Elizabeths nært forestående diamant jubilæum. Flere og flere danskere behøver ikke tage hensyn til andre end sig selv, når de skal beslutte, om det nu også er arvestykket fra tante Oda, der skal hænge over sofaen derhjemme. Antallet af personer, der bor alene, er således steget, viser tal fra Danmarks Statistik. 999.000 husstande består af kun én person, og det er den familietype, som er steget mest over de seneste 20 år. Det svarer til 40 procent af det samlede antal husstande. I løbet af de seneste 10 år er der kommet i alt 134.000 flere husstande. Det svarer til 5,5 procent. I mellemtiden er befolkningen steget med 4,1 procent. Den næststørste gruppe efter dem, der bor alene, er husstande, som består af to personer. Der er 856.000 af den type husstande, og det svarer til en andel på 33 procent. Knap 5000 husstande er beboet af otte personer eller derover. Det samlede antal af husstande er steget mest i det østjyske område omkring Aarhus. Her ligger seks af de i alt 10 kommuner, som har haft en tilvækst på over 10 procent. Størst er stigningen dog i sjællandske Vallensbæk, som har haft en stigning i antallet af husstande på 17 procent. Størst fald i antallet af husstande ligger i det såkaldte Udkantsdanmark. Ud over ø-kommunerne Morsø, Læsø, Langeland, Ærø, Samsø og Bornholm, drejer det sig om Lolland, Lemvig og Tønder. Og så Rødovre. Det største fald var i Læsø med en negativ vækst på 7,8 procent. CDen sætter punktum for et 30 år langt musikalsk parløb og indeholder sange fra hele perioden fra 1981 til 2011. "Vi synes, at det er rart at kunne sige tak for denne gang på et tidspunkt, hvor vi stadig er friske nok til at kunne gøre andre ting. Vi vil gerne læse alle de bøger, som vi aldrig har haft tid til at læse, bruge tid i haven, være sammen med familien, og have mulighed for at hoppe på en afbudsrejse sydpå," siger Keld og Hilda til Lokalavisen.dk. Sidste år havde de omkring 200 spillejobs rundt om i landet. "Det tal vil også blive sat væsentligt ned i fremtiden, men det vil stadigvæk være muligt at opleve os live engang imellem," siger Hilda. Gruppen er for børn i alderen 0 til skolealderen og det koster $2 pr familie pr gang (pengene går til udgifter i forbindelse med afholdelse af gruppen).
