Annex 3.2.3.2 Report on examination of the catalogues on the freezers in the MP archive, room 14.01.15 11 April 2012 the Panel inspected the freezers in the MP archive, including the then newly found - 80 freezer. The Secretariat had in advance found some slide trays in one of the (old) freezers which may have relevance for the Panel s investigation based on the labelling of these trays/slides (labelling with keys which have been identified as maybe-relevant for the papers selected by the Panel). However, a basic precondition for being maybe-relevant in relation to the papers selected by the Panel is that the material is slides stained by conventional immunocytochemistry, because the data in the selected papers are derived from slides thus stained. Slides stained by conventional immunocytochemistry are normally not stored on freeze. The Panel therefore assumed that the maybe-relevant slides in the freezers are either unstained or stained by immunoflourescence, neither of which are relevant to the papers selected by the Panel. 10.05.2012, the Secretariat received from SUND the files containing the records on the contents of the freezers in room 14.01.15 in the MP archive. In order to ensure a complete examination of the freezers for maybe-relevant materials and to ensure that the Panel conducts analyses on all found maybe-relevant material, the Secretariat examined these files and identified, on basis of the labelling of the material, all material which may be relevant background material to scientific papers selected by the Panel, in agreement with the Panel Chair. The records on the thus mayberelevant material in the freezers are specified in tables 1 and 2 further below. Table 1 shows the maybe-relevant slides recorded to be placed in the Kummefryser (i.e. the minus 80 degrees freezer found in March-April 2012 by SUND). Table 2 shows the maybe-relevant slides recorded to be placed in the Fryser Vestfrost, earlier called the Left freezer. These slides in the Fryser Vestfrost were identified by the Secretariat already 08.02.2012-09.02.2012 as maybe-associated with some of the papers selected by the Panel see table 3. The files recording the content in the Kummefryser also contain records on further tissue labelled with some of the keys (DD, D, Ø and BKL) that has been identified as maybe-relevant for the papers selected by the Panel. These records are seen in table 4. However, in the investigation, as regards primary material, the Panel has focused on examining slides (stained by conventional immunocytochemistry). The tissue recorded in table 4 comprises human biopsies and other material contained in plastic tubes and plastic containers, and is thus not relevant for further analysis by the Panel.
Subsequent to the examination of the catalogue, the Panel asked SUND 14.05.2012 to inform whether any of the maybe-relevant material in the freezers is stained by conventional immunocytochemistry. According to SUND s response of 16 May 2012 the slides in question in the -80 freezer are all unstained slides, and the slides in question in The left freezer (fryser Vestfrost) are all stained by immunoflourescence. The Panel thus concludes that none of the slides in the freezers can be identified as being of relevance in relation to the Panel s investigation. Table 1.
