vinteren er over os, og en af årets glædeligste begivenheder står for døren. vi byder på rig mulighed for at komme på forkant med julegaverne på den internationale auktion i Bredgade. De fleste vil uden tvivl tage godt imod et gensyn med den nyudsprungne bøgeskov, der denne gang er gengivet i mange af peder Mønsteds eftertragtede forårsmotiver, hvor han for alvor udfolder sin enestående tekniske kunnen. en vitaminindsprøjtning af format! i alt udbyder vi 15 malerier af denne kunstner (f.eks. kat. nr. 31). skagen kunne også gøre underværker f.eks. den badende dreng, malet af p.s. Krøyer (kat. nr. 13), der netop nu kan opleves i Bille augusts film Marie Krøyer. De fleste medlemmer af den berømte kunstnerkoloni er at finde på auktionen, heriblandt Michael ancher med dobbeltportrættet af laurits Tuxen og p.s. Krøyer som kunstdommere (kat. nr. 11) og ikke mindst skildringen af en læsende pige, der er inspireret af 1600-tallets hollandske mestre (kat. nr. 9, også gengivet på forsiden). Hustruen anna står bag det impressionistiske maleri med blomstrende stokroser (kat. nr. 19). når talen falder på guldalderen, gælder det ofte malerier, men denne gang skal jeg svinge hammeren over Bertel Thorvaldsens marmorbuste af italienerinden Marchesa Maria anna Florenzi, hvis enorme skønhed betog Kong ludwig af Bayern, der lod den danske billedhugger forevige hende (kat. nr. 78). et par smukke kandelabre af lueforgyldt bronze og halvædelstenen Blue John lyser op på auktionen. De er skabt af englænderen Matthew Boulton, der var en højtrangerende mand i 1700-tallets intellektuelle kredse og havde sin gang i det sagnomspundne selskab The lunar society. Han ernærede sig ved produktion af metalvarer og møntprægning, men havde også et udtalt kunstnerisk talent, og hans lueforgyldte bronzegenstande fandt sågar vej til det engelske og russiske hof (kat. nr. 249). i den kuriøse ende af spektret ses et rigtigt museumsstykke en sjælden Thorakrone, der er udført af C.M. Hanias fra nürnberg i første halvdel af 1700-tallet. Den har prydet en Thorarulle, jødedommens helligste skrift (kat. nr. 337). smykker og armbåndsure under juletræet er en oplagt mulighed, og de mange diamanter vil med garanti vække begejstring, heriblandt ringen med en stor smaragdslebet diamant (kat. nr. 718). Herrerne kan forkæles med armbåndsure, og jo mere komplicerede disse tikkende vidundere er, desto bedre. winter is upon us, meaning one of the happiest events of the year is at hand. Fortunately, there is ample opportunity to enjoy your Christmas shopping at our international auction in Bredgade. Most of us will, no doubt, welcome a newly leaved beech forest, which is this time represented by several of peder Mønsted s desirable spring scenes, in which his unique technical skills are shown. we are offering a total of 15 paintings by the artist (e.g. cat. no. 31). skagen could also do wonders during the long winter months such as the bathing boy (cat. no. 13), painted by p.s. Krøyer, whom can currently be seen in the movie, Marie Krøyer, by award winning Danish director Bille august. in fact, most of the members of the famous artists colony can be found at the auction, including Michael ancher s double portrait of laurits Tuxen and p.s. Krøyer as art judges, and his portrayal of a reading girl, inspired by the 17th century Dutch masters (cat. no. 9). His wife, anna, is also represented by the impressionistic painting of hollyhocks in full bloom (cat. no. 19). when the conversation turns to the golden age, the subject is usually paintings. This time, however, i shall hold gavel over Bertel Thorvaldsen s marble bust of the italian woman Marchesa Maria anna Florenzi. The woman s extreme beauty so enthralled King ludwig of Bavaria that he commissioned the Danish sculptor to immortalize her (cat. no. 78). a pair of fine candelabra of ormolu-mounted gilt bronze and the semiprecious stone, Blue John, light up the season. They were created by the englishman Matthew Boulton, a high-ranking person in 18th century intellectual circles and a regular visitor to the renowned lunar society. He made his living by producing metal goods and striking coins, but he also possessed a distinct artistic talent. His ormolu-mounted gilt bronzes eventually made their way to the english and the russian court (cat. no. 249). at the curious end of the spectrum, we are offering a museum-quality piece, a rare Torah crown, made by C.M. Hanias of nuremberg in the early 18th century. The crown has embellished a Torah scroll, the holiest scripture of Judaism (cat. no. 337). Jewellery and wristwatches are always welcome under the Christmas tree, and our many diamonds are guaranteed to create excitement. Do have a look at the ring with a large, emeraldcut diamond (cat. no. 718)! gentlemen can be spoiled with the much-coveted urban Jürgensen watches (cat. no. 639 and 640) or the rolex oyster perpetual Daytona (cat. no. 624). Deeply into D iamond s there were tough examinations and adventure in store when Bruun Rasmussen recently sent its two jewellery experts to south africa to upgrade their expertise in valuing the quality of diamonds. Recognised diamond grading qualification in september, the two jewellery experts, Katrin mikkelsen sørensen and lise Jacobsen, boarded a plane. their destination was Gia s (the Gemological institute of america) school in Johannesburg, which has developed the most recognised diamond grading system in the world. Based on the factors of size, clarity, colour and cut it is possible to determine a diamond s type and value more specifically. Gia s system has meant that, today, a common language exists for talking about diamonds from one country to the next. the teaching is at a very high level, and the students learn to grade different types of diamonds according to Gia s classification system. Both Katrin and lise passed their exams with flying colours. Katrin already had a diamond grading qualification from the German Gemmological institute in idar-oberstein, but now they can both call themselves Gia diamond graders. on the trail of the star of africa their stay in Johannesburg was rounded off with a truly wonderful and unique experience, when the opportunity arose for a visit to one of the most famous diamond mines, the premier mine, also known as the Cullinan Diamond mine. it was here that the world s largest diamond Cullinan was found in 1905 a diamond of more than 3,000 ct. with ultimate clarity. it was given to the British King edward Vii and split into nine named and 96 unnamed smaller diamonds, of which the first, Cullinan i, is known as the star of africa. the first four of the named Cullinan diamonds are today in Queen elizabeth s crown jewels. naturally, the trip down the mine meant that both jewellery experts had to be kitted out in full safety gear before descending the 750 metres to the place from which some of the world s most valuable diamonds are hewn. Bruun Rasmussen s jewellery department Katrin, who holds an m.sc. in Business administration from Copenhagen Business school, has been head of Bruun Rasmussen s jewellery department since she joined the auction house in 2008. she is joined by lise Jacobsen, who holds an ma in english and art history.
