4 As part of the bond election passed on November 3, 2015, Godley ISD proposed a multiphased high school that will utilize existing district property between the football stadium and the current high school, which will become the middle school. Since the bond passed, a selected group of district administration and staff toured a variety of school facilities, took a renewed look at the program, and studied several layouts of how the master plan of the high school could be arranged on the site, coming to a consensus on the master plan presented here. The cafeteria will be adjacent to the CLI to allow for potential overlap in these spaces so that the cafeteria can be used outside of mealtimes for some of the activities that will occur throughout the day in the CLI. The combination of these spaces will also serve as the primary assembly space on campus in the short term until a competition gym or auditorium can be built. There is also opportunity for outdoor dining facing the baseball field. Both the CLI and cafeteria will be designed for expansion as capacity increases at the high school. GODLEY HIGH SCHOOL PHASE ONE GODLEY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT The new high school seeks to build a connection with the current school but also strives to capitalize on the unique opportunity to overlook and interact with the stadium. It will be oriented to relate to both of these existing facilities and to take advantage of current features of the property. There will be multiple pedestrian paths that connect the new high school to all other facilities on the site. Each campus will also have designated bus lanes and parent drop-off and pick-up lanes to keep traffic separated between campuses and bus and car traffic separated on each campus. The grand vision of the master plan is to provide a wide variety of spaces for students to learn. One of the largest gestures toward this goal is to wrap the three story academic wing and the Center for Learning and Innovation around the stadium to create incredible views and to provide multiple engaging areas for outdoor learning. Plazas and outdoor teaching areas will create a diversity of spaces for student instruction or small group activities beyond the classroom. The Center for Learning and Innovation, or CLI, is today s modern library. This center will still include all of the staples of a library with books and areas for instruction, computer lab space, and private study. Additional amenities could include small group collaboration areas for students working on group projects, a variety of flexible seating that can be reconfigured for various tasks, a maker space, where students can craft and build several types of projects, and a learning stair that serves multiple functions for formal or informal instruction or as a breakout space that will engage the CLI with the surrounding classroom spaces. The master plan of the high school includes three gymnasiums, one of them a large competition gym. In the current phase, only a practice gym will be constructed. Locker rooms, weight rooms, athletic offices and other related support spaces will also be built. This includes spaces that are currently served by the field house, which will be demolished to accommodate the new high school. This will be designed along the back of the visitor s side of the football stadium for ease of access to all of the existing sports fields. The administration suite will face the highway and parking lot for direct supervision of anyone entering the campus. Modern technology and security measures will be included to control who may access the facility beyond the reception desk. Future phases of the master plan funded by this bond and future bonds will grow the facility to accommodate 1,100 students. Additions will include classrooms, CLI expansion, cafeteria and kitchen expansion, athletics including two more gyms and supporting locker rooms, and a complete fine arts suite for band, choir, theater and dance. Additionally, two additions to the agriculture facility are planned, the first of which will occur in a later part of this bond package. An adjacent Career and Technology Center could be developed to include multiple programs such as business, health science, cosmetology, architecture, culinary arts, or auto shop and body, among others. Finally, a Performing Arts Center could potentially anchor the fine arts wing at the front of the high school. The first phase of the high school, which will serve 700 students, is scheduled to open in the fall of For the next few years, high school students will share fine arts, agriculture and some athletic facilities located in the middle school. Clear pathways will be provided between campuses with covered walkways where feasible to keep travel as simple as possible.
