Both have political dimensions, the hosting of the football cup is partly carried by Ukraine where democracy is still in development so some politicians did not want to go there. The visiting Chinese in Denmark on the other, hand refuse to discuss Tibet and so again the Danes object. Maybe it is all about timing, we on the Heimdal committee has timed a visit to the cinemas for members and didn t get a lot of interest, bad timing I guess. The National Folk festival 2012. Report by Pat and Kurt Christensen. The National Folk Festival 2012 was once again a great festival. Our dance group was invited to participate for the third year running. We performed at the Piazza on Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Our performances were well received and we had many nice compliments, not only for the dancing but also for the colourful costumes and the variety of dances chosen for the displays. Kurt led the audience in the participation dance at the end of each performance. The feedback was very positive. People loved joining in. 1Missing from this picture are Jan and Vic There were over 20 dance groups showing their dances in the Piazza. From Brisbane came the Queensland Colonial Dancers and Dance Kaleidoscope. There were also Belly dancers, Irish dancers, Morris dancers, Tango dancers, Estonian dancers, Finnish dancers, Scottish dancers and more. We were able to catch up with old friends from some of those groups. The rest of the festival was as spectacular as ever. There was a feast of workshops, concerts and dances to go to. For those that just wanted to chill out there was also the Session Bar where one could find people jamming along till the small hours. There was something for everyone Some of the highlights were the Nordic Tea dance, the Colonial Ball, a Rock and Roll Dance, the Wheeze and Suck Band playing in the Bohemia Bar, a Mexican Polka workshop by Victor Valdes who also gave a superb concert on the Mexican Harp, a fun English Dance session with the Old Empire Band and a fun workshop learning to play the ukulele!. I am sure each of us has our own highlights to remember. A visit to the Instrument Makers tent would find Lennart exhibiting his own handcrafted Nyckelharpas. Lennart s instruments were also shown off to perfection at this years Instrument Makers concert. Emma Nixon, daughter of members Jim and Jan Nixon was another performance highlight. Emma was awarded a National Folk Fellowship this Year to add to her fiddle playing Achievements. Congratulations Emma! A big thank you to Jan and Vic who were busy juggling Queensland Colonial dance commitments. They had to make some quick costume changes so they could dance with us for two of our performances. 6

The Teddy Bear s Birthday on Saturday the 9th of June 2012 was a great success. Lots of young families turned up with their young children, ranging mainly from under a year to 4 years of age. There were about 24 children and 24 adults. It was fantastic to see all the young dads who joined in as well. The band KUPALEJA provided wonderful musical entertainment despite a few band members suffering from the seasonal cold. It was a 2 hour program which started with lots of traditional Danish party games including Så går vi rundt om en enebærbusk, Jeg gik mig over sø og land, Boogie Woogie, Bro bro brille and Rits, rats filliong-gong-gong. It was fantastic to have Pia on the cordless microphone on the floor leading the songs and games and participating with her children. She also offered the English explanation for the songs so that the non-danish speaking children and parents knew what was going on and were better able to participate. Så gør vi sådan når vi ruller vor tøj As an added touch, Pia had brought along props for Tornerose var et vakkert barn which the children really enjoyed. The children did a great job acting out their parts as the sleeping princess, the wicket witch and the charming prince.one prince took his role very serious and cut down the mean witch as well as the thorn bush. The song games ended with Bjørnen sover which the children always love because they get a chance to run around and chase each other. Så går vi rundt om en enebærbusk 8
A Danish Kids Birthday Party with Everything By this stage everyone were well and truly ready for some afternoon tea. Iben had outdone herself in having baked delicious birthday buns, Brunsviger with lollies on top, Drømmekage and two different types of mini muffins, as well as providing plenty of fresh fruit, fruitjuice and water. There was tea and coffee for the parents. Everyone really appreciated her efforts and the help of several other mums. To end the afternoon, everyone gathered on the floor again for a few more Danish children s songs including: Se den lillle kattekilling, Lille Peter Edderkop, Hjulene på bussen, Mester Jakob, Vil du, vil du, and Moster Ingeborg. One brave mother even grabbed the microphone and lead Jeg ved en lærkerede. The live music from KUPALEJA, beautifully accompanied and enhanced the eager voices of the children and their parents. Thank you Kurt (vocal and guitar), Pat (bass guitar), Lennart (nyckelharpa or keyed fiddle) and Jan (piano accordion). We felt very lucky to have these talented Scandinavian musicians at the party. Everyone had a most memorable afternoon. 9

We participated in an exciting collaboration of cultures showcasing a great range of activities with more than twenty different community groups represented. There were international food stalls, interactive workshops as well as traditional song and dance. The day dawned a little gloomy weatherwise. Showers threatened. However, we were lucky. The sun was shining for our performance. Again people loved our costumes. Before our performance we were asked many times to pose for amateur photographers the photographers family members often posing with us. Our dances were popular and people loved joining in the participation dances led by Lis. We finished just as the showers sent the audience scurrying for home. The organisers thanked us for joining in the festivities and said that they will be sure to invite us again. Amongst the other groups performing there was a Torres Islander song and dance troupe. Their star was the little boy (pictured on our cover page) who danced with the big men and didn t miss a beat. He won everybody over. There was also the Tibetan singer who hit some interesting high notes. There was something for all tastes. After our display there was coffee and cake at Ingrid s. 14
Denmark - but do they know Danish? This is the town in S W Western Australia by the name of Denmark, I first noticed it on maps years ago, this sounded like an outpost of some early Danish immigrants. And so I am going to investigate. The European town Denmark was settled in the period following 1829 where the nearby town Frederikstown (now Albany) were built, by 1893 a sawmill were built by the Millard brothers and the town grow from there. Denmark has a river by the same name flowing out into the Wilson Inlett about 3 km out of town, and this is no doubt another reason for the early prosperity of the town. The sawmill lasted just ten years, and after that was a period where just a few hardy farmers worked the land in the area. After WW II with technological improvements, for both agriculture and wood milling Denmark took off again. Denmark is an easy 5 hours drive south out of Perth, WA and less than an hour west of Albany. If you drive south out of town, it is only a ten minutes drive to the suburb of Ocean Beach, where you can find a caravan park, and from there you can walk or drive to the beach and the headlands on the Great Australian Bight and Southern Ocean. The visitor centre is open 9 am to 5 pm 7 days a week but for Christmas day, much more information can be had at the town web-site www.denmarkwa.asn.au or a ph call to the visitor centre (08) 9848 2055. And well DENMARK WA...named after the river flowing through town, which was again named by Thomas Braidwood who had a friend Dr Alexander Denmark RN. The novel recreates the events of this period in a suspenseful and entertaining manner and submerses the reader in this exotic, tropical setting. "Transfer Day" is about a young island girl who rescues a deserter from a German U-boat who is swept up in a German spy's plot to stop the transfer of the islands to America and features West Indian characters, Danish characters, German spy characters and many famous sights in Charlotte Amalie such as Fort Christian, Market Square, King's Wharf and the Governor's Mansion. 4 Kronprins Frederik redigerer Metroxpress fra sn.dk Kronprins Frederik er gæsteredaktør på Metroxpress, når avisen udkommer i en særlig OL-udgave den 27. juni. Den 26. juni bliver ikke en helt "almindelig dag på kontoret" på dagbladet Metroxpress. Kronprins Frederik sætter sig den dag for bordenden som gæsteredaktør for den avis, der udkommer den 27. juni. Kronprinsen har valgt, at avisen skal stå i De Olympiske Lege og sportens tegn, skriver avisen i en pressemeddelelse. Og som gæsteredaktør er det ham, der sætter rammerne for avisens artikler om legene, sport og sundhed. Jonas Kuld Rathje, der er chefredaktør på metroxpress, glæder sig til at se, hvad den kommende gæsteredaktør får ud af tjansen. - En gæst i redaktørstolen kan ruske op i os og få os til at se tingene på nye måder, og som medlem at Den Internationale Olympiske Komité, IOC, er kronprins Frederik naturligvis en spændende gæsteredaktør til en sådan avis, siger han. Helsinge Stationscenter bliver en ommer Fra DR.DK Det storstilede Helsinge Stationscenter, 'Gribskov C', kan ikke gennemføres i den form, det blev præsenteret for et år siden. Der har nemlig vist sig at være en meget blød bund på en del af byggeområdet, Kærligheden flyttede sine hegnspæle fra Politiken.dk Folketinget besluttede at give homoseksuelle ret til at indgå borgerligt eller kirkeligt ægteskab. På tilhørerpladserne faldt kommende ægtefæller af samme køn hinanden om halsen, da det fælt klingende registrerede partnerskab blev afløst af ægteskabet. Den strakte arm, som samfundet har holdt det homoseksuelle parforhold ud i, blev afløst af anerkendelse af deres kærligheds ligeværd. Portugisere skal bygge Metrostationer fra dr.dk Det portugisiske firma Cinterex skal bygge tre nye Metrostationer i København: Nørrebroparken, Nørrebros Runddel og Nuuks Plads. Det bekræfter firmaet bag den store metroudvidelse, Copenhagen Metro Team, skriver Fagbladet 3F. Portugiserne kommer til Danmark i løbet af den kommende uge og begynder så småt arbejdet med at bygge de nye Metrostationer. 19
Skal Danmarks grundlov på plejehjem eller skønhedsklinikken? fra Politiken.dk Den 5. juni 1849 fik Danmark sin første grundlov. Siden da har dagen været noget nær det tætteste, danskerne er kommet en decideret nationaldag. For mange betyder grundlovsdag, at man kan holde fri med god, demokratisk samvittighed. Butikkerne har efter bestemmelserne i rigets lukkelov ikke åbent, når vi hvert år fejrer landets forfatning, og danskerne kan i stedet bruge dagen på at opsøge et af de mange politiske arrangementer, hvor man hylder de principper, som Danmark styres efter. I statsminister Thorning-Schmidts grundlovstale i år fik den fire gange reviderede lov følgende skudsmål:»i virkeligheden er grundloven en beskeden samling paragraffer. Ja, faktisk fylder den kun lidt mere end 4.000 ord det svarer vel i omfang til to-tre skolestile. Den er på 89 paragraffer. Til sammenligning er færdselsloven på over 140 paragraffer«. Ingen af disse paragraffer er moderniseret siden 1953, og da politiken.dk for et par uger siden spurgte læserne, hvilken helligdag de lettest kunne undvære, blev grundlovsdag stemt ind på andenpladsen med 12 procent af stemmerne. EU-formandskab - Vrede EU-parlamentarikere boykotter Bødskov fra DR.DK EU-Parlamentet suspenderer alle forhandlinger med det danske formandskab om nye regler for Schengen-området, oplyser Venstres EU-parlamentariker Jens Rohde til Ritzaus Bureau. I første omgang lød det ifølge nyhedsbureauet, at samtlige forhandlinger på retsområdet ville blive lammet, men det drejer sig altså udelukkende om forhandlinger i relation til det grænseløse Schengen-samarbejde. Begge havde i 2011 en omsætning væsentligt højere end i superårene 2007 og 2008. Det begynder desuden at ligne almindeligt gode tider, omend ikke højkonjunkturer for virksomheder som udviklingshusene Prevas og Develco og for den generelle elektronikproducent GPV. Bang & Olufsen kan også fremvise et overskud, selv om det er lille. Officielt Kinesisk besøg i Danmark. Den Røde løber var rullet ud for den store Kineskiske delegation som ankom til Kastrup. I forvejen har det sivet,med presse meddelelser om op til 17 milliarder Danske kroner i udsigt fra dette besøg, og om hvor mange Danske virksomheder skal besøges og handler officielt underskrives. Men tvilv er der ikke at dette første Kinesiske besøg af en siddende president Hu Jintao er vigtigt. Under statsbesøget bor den kinesiske delegation på Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel på Amager. Grunden til, de bor her og ikke på Fredensborg, er, at Fredensborg er under restaurering. Droningen skal beværte - det danske regentpar er vært for den statsbanket, der afholdes på Christiansborg Slot. De andre dage får den kinesiske delegation mad på hotellet fra kinesiske kokke, som er taget med til Danmark. 20
