My dad has high expectations of me, because I m his no. 1. son, begynder Greg sin fortælling, der er lagt som en voice-over over filmen, som foregår i sommeren 1980. Hele familien er taget til Fiji sammen med naboerne for at holde påskeferie. Filmen er en bittersød kommentar til traditionelle kønsroller og kønsidentitet i familien, som kan inspirere i undervisningen til diskussioner og refleksioner over familieforhold, søskende og identitet ikke mindst kønsidentitet. Sproget er forholdsvist enkelt forståelse og indlæring understøttes af engelske undertekster. I opgavehæftet er der lagt op til forskellige øvelser, hvor læreren kan bestemme sværhedsgraden. - Der er førfilmsopgaver, hvor elevernes forforståelse aktiveres gennem opgaver, hvor de tegner, fortæller om og erindrer ferieoplevelser med deres egen familie. - Forståelsesspørgsmålene til filmen kan løses individuelt eller to og to. Formålet er at fastholde filmens handling og vigtigt ordforråd derfra. - Derefter aktiveres elevernes kreative og empatiske sans i skemaet, hvor filmens personers største ønske/problem skitseres, men skemaet kan også simpelthen bruges som en måde at lave personkarakteristik på. Her vil det være relevant at arbejde i mindre grupper. - Opgaven, hvor filmens centrale personer skal have et godt råd med sig, er velegnet til diskussion i grupper og derefter klassevis, hvor filmens centrale temaer kan udfoldes. - I talen til Greg eller til hans forældre, kan niveauet ligeledes lægges dér hvor eleverne er lige nu. My wonderful family? Most people have a family or have had one. And whether we like or not - as children we are utterly dependent on the persons who feed us, help us, and guide us through our lives. Most often they are the ones we call mum and dad our parents Maybe that is why we love our parents when we are small. And why we want to make them proud of us, as we grow up. But wait! That is not always a simple task. Neither for child nor parent. Some parents want their kids to have good grades in school. Others want them to be good at sports. Some parents want their children to help out at home, others just want their children to be happy, and some parents don t have any time to spend with their children. Most parents and children find that their relationship changes dramatically as the child grows older and becomes a teenager. All of a sudden nothing is simple anymore!
