Honours MSc courses: Aims The aims of introducing Honours MSc courses at the Faculty of Science are to stimulate the academic curiosity of talented MSc students and hence to improve the quality and quantity of recruitment for its PhD programme to provide its PhD students with a larger variety of relevant advanced courses when composing their programmes of study 14
Honours courses: The concept An Honours course is a course on a topic from the natural sciences with learning objectives explicitly above those of an equivalent MSc course, as expressed in the SOLO taxonomy An Honours course can take one of the following two forms: designed and implemented solely as an Honours course such curses are classified as PhD courses designed and implemented as a variant of an existing MSc course such courses are classified as Honours MSc courses 15
Honours MSc courses: Implementation The implementations of the two versions of an MSC course may be more or less integrated, e.g. ranging from two separate implementations with independent teaching activities two implementations with a common set of teaching activities, but with identifiable elements of the honours version e.g. in terms of special assignments reflecting the difference in learning objectives 16
Honours courses: Attendance and Exam Honours courses are open to all PhD students at AGSoS MSc students may apply to attend an Honours course as a general rule, accepted students should be in the top 10% of their year It will be made clear on exam certificates which courses have been taken in an Honours version The grades given at the exam must reflect the difference in learning objectives (alignment) 17

Honours MSc Programme: Admission Admission to the Honours MSc programme can only take place in parallel with admission to our PhD programme and all students admitted to our PhD programme without an MSc degree will be admitted to the Honours MSc programme As usual admission can take place with transfer of merits (e.g. 4+4 is alive and well!) 21
Honours MSc Programme: Composition All Honours MSc programmes must satisfy: include coursework amounting to at least 90 ECTS - 60 of these on the first year of study at least half of the total coursework must be honours courses include preliminary research activities amounting to 180 ECTS minus the amount of coursework 22
Elite modules: the NAT AU version An elite module is a collection of Honours courses within one or more of the 18 AGSoS fields An elite module amounts to a total of 20-30 ECTS An elite module appears in the course programme for at least 5 Honours MSc students annually 23
Elite modules: the NAT AU version From UBST: Elitetaxameter 30.000 kr. per STÅ (on top of ordinær uddannelsestakst ) in 2009/2010 Annual intake of at most 30 students Udviklingstilskud 50.000 kr.
