Ét TEMA FOR ØKONOMIUDVALGETS ARBEJDE er byudvikling i et vækstskabende erhvervspolitisk perspektiv. Det skal bl.a. ses i sammenhæng med udvikling af Business Region Aarhus samarbejdet, det forestående arbejde med ny kommuneplan, udsatte bydele og de mange byudviklingsprojekter som tegner fremtidens Aarhus, mv. THURSDAY OCT. 2nd 2014 GROWTH THROUGH BUSINESS AND CITY DEVELOPMENT 9.30-11.15: Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership: Meeting with Allan Sparrow and Susan Ford The GMLEP sits at the heart of Greater Manchester s governance arrangements, ensuring that business leaders are empowered to set the strategic course, determine local priorities and drive growth and job creation within the city region. It is central to the wider partnerships established between local government, businesses and educational institutes, and the public, private, voluntary and community sectors. Focus on how the GMLEP cooperate with local government, businesses, educational institutions etc. in order to create growth etc. 11.30-13.00: Lunch 13.20-15.30: Regeneration in East Manchester New East Manchester: Coach tour of East Manchester. Visit to different projects incl. Manchester City Stadium and Cycle city focus on the importance of sports economy and diversity Focus on how the New East Manchester has been regenerated and which impact it has had on the area as a business- and growth driver. Furthermore focus on diversity as a strength. 16.00-17.30: Visit to MediaCity:UK Visit at the mixed-use property development on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal in Salford, developed by Peel Media, and home to media organisations like BBC and the University of Salford. Focus on the establishment of and synergies gained by the business- and knowledge environment, and what Manchester has gained from the establishment of the BBC platform in Northwest England. 19.30: Dinner
FRIDAY OCT. 3rd 2014 MANCHESTER IN A REGIONAL CONTEXT 9.00-11.00: Greater Manchester Combined Authority and The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities : Meeting with Allan Sparrow and Susan Ford The ten authorities in Greater Manchester are the first in the UK to develop a statutory Combined Authority which will co-ordinate key economic development, regeneration and transport functions. The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) was established 2011. The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) acts as the voice of the ten local authorities of Greater Manchester but as part of a much stronger partnership with GMCA. Focus on the development of Greater Manchester and the cooperation between the local authorities as inspiration for the cooperation in Business Region Aarhus. 11.15-12.30: Core Cities : meeting with Director Chris Murray Core Cities are a unique and united local authority voice to promote the role of cities in driving economic growth. The organisation represents the councils of England s eight largest city economies outside London, and Glasgow. These cities drive local and underpin national economies. Working in partnership, they aim to enable each City to enhance their economic performance and make them better places to live, work, visit and do business.
