Teknologiforståelse mellem uddannelse og praktisk Jamie Wallace Aarhus Univ.
How can vocational education prepare new practitioners for a working life with technology Technucation Hvorfor skal vi forstå teknologi?

Understanding technology in practice
technology influences us and we influence technology! private lives nursing practice e.g. EPJ As a rule, nurses and teachers aren't technologists. producers persuade us how important it is to have their products - our lives change as a result.
Technological Literacy use, manage, assess, and understand technology (ITEA 2000: 242; Rose et al. 2004: 1) "the acquisition of the skills necessary to make effective use of the various forms of technology encountered in the modern world" (Dow 2006: 246). "problem solving, inventing and designing, and troubleshooting (Munby, Russell & Martin quoted Baker 2008: 16). "technological knowledge and skills citizens should have and will need in the future (Cajas 2001: 719)
Technological Literacy "First, a technologically literate person must have a certain amount of basic knowledge about technology. Second, a technologically literate person should have some basic technical capabilities, such as being able to work with a computer and to identify and fix simple problems in the technological devices used at home and in the office. More generally, he or she should able to employ an approach to solving problems that relies on aspects of a design process....and third, a technologically literate person should be able to think critically about technological issues and act accordingly." (Garmire & Pearson 2006: 21) "engage intelligently and conscientiously in the world around them" (Yawson 2010: 5)
Telemedicine Case
A new form of communication med de første tyve patienter...
How to Link Technological Literacy with practice? We can learn about particular technologies how to use it technical specification As soon as we use technology it becomes a part of human action and therefore unpredictable and difficult to understand. it becomes situated in practice
Taking 2 views we can consider practice 'from the inside' and 'from the outside' outside - Evered and Louis (1981) inside We can try and understand from the outside as the patterns we can see, how things are organised and discussed, the systems through which we understand connections between things, the formal knowledges we need to understand things. Practices from the inside is the activity being performed. it is temporary, emergent, negotiated, processural. among all the resources available and all the constraints present." - (Silvia Gherardi 2009) is dependant upon how to relate between different social and material worlds as they unfold through action.
Technology in-practice the coupling of technology and practice both change and each changes the other
Heart monitor example outside interpretation of the electrical activity of the heart over a period of time, as detected by electrodes attached to the outer surface of the skin and recorded by a device external to the body An ECG test records the electrical activity of the heart.ecg relies on the idea that different leads "view" the heart from different angles.
Heart monitor example inside Allows the close monitoring of patients condition. Can be viewed as a threat to patients causing anxiety. Can cause misleading effects du to patients moving the electrodes about when they move in bed or brush their teeth. Erroneous alarms disrupt wards that can just be switched off at the bedside for security reasons. They become a constant focus of attention for nurses during their daily practice who are able to read the vital signs whilst doing their duties.
Historically reconfigured in-practice technology as becoming! Changing technology Changing practices Reconfigured through everyday use Mutually constituted in practice
modes of adoption A movement in 2 parts - double reconfiguration From the imposed to the preferred mode of understanding from the outside to the inside
Teknologi Human /sociale A. Innovation / ny teknologi D. Organisation / teknologi Out side læring B. Situeret teknologi i en praksis C. Situeret teknolog og viden/erfaringer Inside læring
Technological literacy Technological literacy is the capacity for learning from everyday entanglments within the constant reconfigurations of both practice and technology without loosing sight of the motive for the practice itself. Wallace & Hasse
