Independent Study IndependentStudyisauniqueprogram thatbelmonthighschoolofersfor10 th,11 th,and12 th graders.sophomores andjuniorsarelimitedtooneindependentstudycoursepersemester.seniorsmayundertakeuptotwoindependent studycoursespersemester.ninthgradersmaynotenrolinindependentstudy. Thisprogram broadensthecuriculum byoferingstudentsanopportunitytopursueanareaofinterestthrough anotheracademicinstitution(includingapprovedonlinecourses).studentswilneedtosecuretheguidanceofan in schooladvisorwhoiswilingtomentorandassistthestudent.independentstudycoursesmaynotreplicatethe existingcuriculum atbelmonthighschool. Itisimportantthatstudentsunderstandtheworkloadforanindependentstudycourseisatleastequaltoacourse oferedatthehighschool.studentstakeresponsibilityfortheirownlearninginanindependentstudycourse. Toensurethequalityandintegrityoftheindependentstudyprogram beginningwiththe schoolyear,only approvedcoursesoferedbyacademicinstitutionswilbeconsideredforindependentstudycredit. 6 Proposal Submission Process Your Proposal AnIndependentStudyProposalform mustbecompletedbythestudentandclearlyindicatethetopicofthe courseorprogram thatwilbeundertaken.inadditions,thetimingormeetingswiththein SchoolAdvisorshould beincluded. Responsibilities Thefolowingpeoplemustapprovethestudent sproposalforindependentstudy(inthisorder):guidance Counselor,In SchoolAdvisor(andOut of SchoolAdvisor,ifapplicable),andParent/Guardian,Curiculum Director. Submission of Your Proposal IndependentStudyproposalsshouldbesubmitedinthesemesterpriortothesemesterforwhichtheyare proposed.thefinaldeadlineforfulyearandfirstsemesterindependentstudyproposalsisthefirstmondayin themonthofjune.thefinaldeadlineforsecondsemesterindependentstudyproposalsisthefirstfridayin JanuaryaftertheDecemberbreak. Final Approval FinalapprovalforalindependentproposalsiswiththeCuriculum Directorinthesubjectareabeingproposed.
