Work in progress JESPER SIMENSEN - visual artist
JESPER SIMENSEN - visual artist A balancing act Occasionally you get out of balance, and the struggle to regain it can be a journey in itself. This is particularly true in the work of Jesper Simensen, because in this world of images abstractions are almost figurative - as if they entice one to find a motive - and at the same time you have an exuberant expectation that something is not quite as it should be. The surprise is waiting just around the corner. This careful balancing act is a common feature in Jesper Simensen s picture world. It is both brutal and delicate in its expression, and it can be both arrogant and vulnerable - but never boring. The balance may tip, and you might lose your footing anytime. You can gaze at a distance and find one truth or you can go closer and be surprised by the nuances and details. The details are not, as the colors and the large surfaces, neither daring nor provocative, but rather sensitive and delicate in their expression. Background Jesper Simensen finds great inspiration in the involving StreetArt, which over the past 10 years has moved visual art from the studios and galleries out into the streets and urban spaces in the city, where you find yourself faced with art - without necessarily searching for it. Jesper Simensen examines the relationship between surface, spaciousness and volume, by separating the underlying visual perception of such as architecture or urban spaces in both transparent and thick painted facets creating kaleidoscopic and prismatic expressions that reflects the vibrant urban space. If you let the glowing mesh of masks and bubbles lead your gaze, perhaps you find microscopically thin lines of lead or ink, spanning new perspectives. And so - a careful balancing act in the artificially constructed world of Jesper Simensen can begin. Here there is space without scale that doesn t only relate to up and down. Here there are microscopic organisms superimposed on carefully constructed geometric walls and surfaces. In their small cracks powerful explosions of color is revealed, that can easily cause the collapse of the structures. Here the fully balanced and straight sides are almost non-existing. So in order not to fall and lose focus during this balancing act, one must sometimes move sideways instead of straight forward. About the work
