Aktiviteterne er blot tænkt som forslag til undervisningen. Aktiviteterne er af forskellige sværhedsgrader og kan blandt andet bruges til at arbejde med undervisningsdifferentiering. Aktiviteterne er ikke opstillet efter en bestemt progression. Introduktion til læreren: Bogen giver rig mulighed for at få talt om nogle af de udfordringer et flygtningebarn kan have, når det starter i skolen i et nyt og fremmed land. Bogen præsenterer et højaktuelt emne fortalt til børn i en god og konkret fortælling om mødet med skolen i et nyt og fremmed land. Danske børn bliver præsenteret for deres medansvar i medborgerskabet, og bogen kan være en vej til at skabe forståelse og empati for hinanden i klassen. Historien er egnet til at skabe forståelse og empati for eleverne i klassen samt i verden. Den indbyder til, at eleverne taler om kultur- og samfundsforhold. Nogle af aktiviteterne kan løses selvstændigt, men de fleste er oplagte at arbejde med i par eller i grupper og afslutte på klassen. Kort beskrivelse af bogen Den nye dreng i 2.b opfører sig underligt. Han bliver bange, da kammeraterne foreslår, at de skal lege "Jorden er giftig", og lyden af en flyvemaskine får ham til at græde. De udvalgte kompetenceområder vil blive behandlet i de udvalgte aktiviteter. Ligeledes vil de forskellige videns- og færdighedsmål blive trænet i aktiviteterne både før, under og efter læsning. Det vil være relevant at arbejde med andre mål afhængig af, hvilke fokus der arbejdes med i forhold til bogen.
