PREVIEW: Greece and Iceland host the first matches of the tournament this season The Women s EHF Cup 2015-16 starts Friday evening in Greece and Iceland. London GD Handball Club are going to Athens to face O.F.N. Ionias in two matches in the Greek capital with the first leg Friday evening and the return match Saturday afternoon. In Reykjavik, Fram receive Bosnian HZRK Grude Autoherc, and also in this double header, the second leg is taking place Saturday. Last season, Pogon Baltica Szczecin reached the final of the Challenge Cup. This season, the Polish team have a go at the EHF Cup, where their first opponent come from Switzerland. LC Brühl Handball are visiting the Hala Miejska of Szczecin for a double header, in which the first leg is being played Saturday and the second match Sunday afternoon. It is not entirely double headers this weekend, though. One of tie which starts this weekend and ends next weekend, is the meeting between DHK Banik Most and Cassano Magnago. Last season, Most reached Round 3 of the tournament, and the Czech team will be trying to copy that achievement against an Italian team who have not played in a European competition since the 1999-2000 season. IUVENTA Michalovce also reached the third round last season. The obstacle, the Slovenian team will have to overcome in order to copy that achievement this season, comes from Luxembourg. European debutants HC Standard are visiting Chemkostav Arena of Michalovce for the first leg Saturday. ZRK Naisa Nis have one European trophy in their trophy cupboard. In the 2006-07 season, the Serbian club won the Challenge Cup, the same tournament, in which they reached the quarter-final last season. Now, the team from Serbia s third largest city are trying to be successful in the EHF Cup, where A. C. Loux Patras will be their first hurdle, and their last if they do not manage to overcome the Greek outfit. The first is taking place in the Sport Hall Cair in Nis Saturday evening. Five ties are being decided as double headers next weekend. 2
