What the wall says - 80 x 80 - mixed media 013 Michael Grønlund
Another brick of the wall - 80 x 80 - mixed media
Michael s universe A door is left ajar, and an intense deep-blue color with a Scandinavian bright shine is immersed over the dark velvet black-blue night skies of Southern France. Michael is the story teller who masters the capability to open his arms and unfold explosions of different colors on the large canvas and giving associations of our distant ancestors who in their caves told stories about hunting and victories. The painter himself explains that the wall is his inspiration which generates room for the pictorial expression of the major existential questions of our time. Michael often uses larges canvasses as the wall, but he also uses the delicate handmade paper, protected by glass, as a medium for his messages and impressions. He combines the child s naivistic aspects with the more refined and temperamental expression. Flushing colors in every brush, layer upon layer, sets the outline of the story. There is the horizon and the skies, and the ceiling is high! The space is the wall with the conglomeration of green, yellow, blue and red, mixing into new nuances and hazy contours. The colors melt
together as bodies embraced in a heated sensual dance. The human silhouettes, the bodies and the faces, slowly blurred and leaving an echo of dreams and hopes; perhaps it tells us to step back, to reflect, and to leave history behind us as an imprint - let the past be a stepping stone to a space where dreams can live. With Michael s unique eye for composition, the textual messages are dispersed in the paintings, thereby creating excitatory sketches of something that carries mystery and adventure in itself. The words are like mantras putting together chains of thought and associations to something bigger, giving us as viewers the possibility to write on our own mental walls. Perhaps the message that room for dreams and adventures and the possibility for the dreams to come true - should be ensured. Dreams and adventures in distant countries, wide open spaces and perspectives, but also the hope that we will be able to see the possibilities right here and right now. The message on the wall is: Seize the world, the world is in color Gitte Plambek og Poul Manniche

Written about... Subsequently released excerpts of texts in their own way describes how viewers perceive my imagery, my colors and attitudes. Michael Grønlund s universe Michael has found his inner story teller. With his excellent skills for graphical composition and flair for colours his figurative expression has developed not only depth, but also a capaciousness that literally jumps from the canvas, inviting for a dance. Description of the colours in Michael s paintings is almost impossible how should you describe a pure colour, the existence of which you weren t aware of until now? A transition is in progress. Stories and tales about people and existential issues emerge, and Michael s artistic expression is taking a stance. Indeed, Michael has a lot on his mind, and he tickles the inner child s happy expectation to see more of the tales in his artistic expression. Gitte Plambek Art as a means of knowledge You ll find mystery and humanity abundantly in Michael Grønlund s paintings that precisely often have a similarly inscrutable human face hidden in the expressive layers of colours. A face, a body, sometimes the outline of an animal that bring something else and more to the painting than if Michael Grønlund had just worked in the abstract. In this way a dialogue is created between the layers of colours applied spontaneously, the dynamic and expressive tracks of the brush and the motifs that faintly appear from the sea of colours. It is not a dialogue you can reach by rational analysis, but a dialogue that requires your intuition to be understood. While there is no definitive interpretation of the paintings, there is so much more visual excitation as well as emotional challenge. The observer feels the fascination of these human forms that seem peculiarly familiar, and feelings of melancholy, powerlessness, sorrow, love and tenderness make themselves felt. I love working in large formats. It really gives the opportunity for grand gestures and big ideas. There is room for self-expression and to tell stories. Most often, I work in pairs. That way I can keep the process going and going. When one waits and dries, I work on the second and so on. ormates
