1 VANCOUVERISLANDWEST LocalHealthAreaProfile (VIWest)LocalHealthArea(LHA)isoneof14LHAsinandis locatedin snorthservicedeliveryarea(hsda).theviwestlhais approximately5,619squarekilometers.itsitsatthesouthwesterntipofthenorthhsda,and isborderedbythreeotherlhas:alberni-clayoquot,greatercampbelriverandvancouver North.VIWesthasveryfew highways,andmanycommunitiesaremoreeasilyreachedbyboatthan bycar.highway28extendsasfarasgoldriver.viwestisapproximatelyanhourandahalfdrive from CampbelRiver,andthreehoursfrom PortAlice.ThereisnopublictransitavailableinVIWest. AccordingtotheCensus,27.3% ofpeoplelivinginthe LHAidentifiedthemselvesasAboriginal comparedto7.6% acrossand5.9% in. Additionaly,1.1% ofpeoplelivinginthe areaidentifiedthemselvesasavisibleminority,comparedto 9.6% acrossand30.3% in. Onaverage,thepopulationofisolderthan thatofand,withanaverageageof44.8years. The75+agegroupmakesuparound7.7% ofthepopulationwhich islowerthan(10%)and(8%).currently,the largestpopulationgroupisbetweentheages45and64years.
