Fehmarnbelt and Rødsand lagoon Fehmarnbelt is part of transition system between the North Sea and the Baltic The lagoon is protected by a spit (Hyllekrog) and two partly submerged barriers Open to the north through Guldborgsund
Sediments in Rødsand The bed inside the lagoon consists mainly of sand Few deeper areas with substantial amount of cohesive material Cohesive seidment in suspensions during most of the year The areas around the inlets are dynamic and in continuous remodelling
Biology in Rødsand The bed inside the lagoon consists mainly of sand Few deeper areas with substantial amount of cohesive material Cohesive seidment in suspensions during most of the year The areas around the inlets are dynamic and in continuous remodelling
Moniteringsplatforme Meteorologi Vandprøver Styreelektronik Vandkvalitetsparametre Sedimentparametre Hydrografi
Suspended sediment concentrations correlated to wind
Grain size Grain size [mm] TSMC [mg/l] Wind
Flocculation Primary particles Grain size distribution In situ particles Grain size distribution
The sediment system contains cohesive sediment and sand with only little cohesive sediment in the bed The sediment system can respond different to similar meteorological situations
NTU correlations to wind Just the wind speed Wind speed and direction
Main conclusion Low energy system with mixed sediments Periodically high sediment concentrations caused by a combination of sediment inflows and local redistribution Mixed sediments does complicate efforts quite a bit Light attenuation results show a correlation of increased attenuation for higher concentrations. The results also indicate that two sediment populations exist that has different effects
