Skandinavisk nyhedsbrev Polyurethaner PUR-gruppen i Sverige PUR-gruppen i Norge og PUR-sektionen i Danmark NEWSLETTER 15 Juni 2011 Redaktørens spalte Årsmøder og skandinavisk PUR-samarbejde Maj er måneden for årsmøderne i den norske PUR-gruppe, den svenske PUR-gruppe og PURsektionen i Danmark. Det norske årsmøde blev afholdt i Fredrikstad 5.-6. maj. I tilknytning til mødet var der et fagligt program med fokus på de problemstillinger, som for tiden optager PUR branchen, såvel stift som fleksibelt skum. Det svenske årsmøde blev afholdt 19. maj hos SP i Borås og i tilknytning til årsmødet stod SP for de faglige indlæg om brandmodstand, brand i materialer og afprøvning af materialeegenskaber. Endelig afholdt den danske PUR-sektion sit årsmøde 26. maj i Nyborg og en temadag som omtalt nedenfor. Til alle møderne har der været der været repræsentanter fra de øvrige skandinaviske lande. Og når vi når frem august, er det igen tid til at mødes, når den årlige skandinaviske bestyrelseskonference afholdes på Skovreden på Fyn i Danmark. Men, ind til da rigtig god sommer! (ThB). Rigid Foam Eksempelsamling om polyurethanprodukter i moderne byggeri Med støtte fra PU Europe er den danske PUR-sektion i gang med en omfattende indsats, der skal få omverdens øjne op for PUR-materialets mange fordele. Indsatsen er i høj grad henvendt til byggesektoren, hvor sektionen arbejder for at gøre byggebranchen mere opmærksom på de mange fordele der er ved at anvende PUR og PIR som isoleringsmateriale. Sektionens har udgivet en eksempelsamling, der indeholder eksempler på, hvordan man bruger PUR/PIR i forskellige konstruktioner. I forbindelse med udgivelsen af eksempelsamlingen har sektionen afholdt en temadag om emnet med i alt 65 deltagere, heriblandt en række eksterne gæster, nordiske plastmedier og naturligvis kollegaer fra de svenske og norske PUR-grupper. All examples were published on the PU Europe product website and printed in small format. They were also submitted to other initiatives collecting such examples including the European Build-Up Platform (http://www.buildup.eu/cases) and the Smart e-building project (http://www.takeyourenergyback.eu/home.html) 1
UNEP wants to sharpen awareness for sustainable building The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has issued an appeal for better utilization of the climate protection potential of buildings, which account for roughly one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions. Speaking in Leverkusen on Tuesday, Arab Hoballah, Chief of the Sustainable Consumption and Production Branch of UNEP, said that the primary need is to sharpen the awareness of policy makers, market actors and other stakeholders of the need for and opportunities afforded by sustainable building. Leverkusen was the venue of the Annual General Meeting and Symposium on Sustainable Buildings 2011 of the UNEP s Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative (SBCI), held for the first time ever in Germany. SBCI-member Bayer MaterialScience hosted and sponsored the event. (EL) Dansk byggeri: Masser af job i EU-krav Der kan være mange danske arbejdspladser i et forslag til energisparekrav, som EUkommissionen ventes at vedtage onsdag, skriver Politiken. Det vurderer brancheorganisationerne Dansk Energi og Dansk Byggeri på baggrund af udkast til forslaget. De to vigtigste punkter i forslaget er ifølge Politiken, at Europas energiselskaber skal få deres kunder til at sænke energiforbruget med halvanden procent om året. Og at det offentlige hvert år skal energirenovere 3 procent af sit samlede bygningsareal. Dansk Byggeri kalder kravet om energirenovering»overordentlig positivt«.»det vil være noget, vi kan mærke«, siger specialkonsulent i Dansk Byggeri Jonas Møller til Politiken. Organisationen skønner, at kravet vil kunne skabe 4.500 arbejdspladser i Danmark. Kravet om energirenoveringer vil kræve omfattende investeringer, op mod tre milliarder kroner om året i stat og kommuner, hvilket kan være vanskeligt i en tid med meget stramme budgetrammer. (CU) Renovate Europe campaign launched As reported in (PU Europe) newsletter 2/11, the Commission presented its new Energy Efficiency Plan in March 2011. The Commission hopes that the proposed measures will enable Europe to meet its 20 % energy savings target by 2020. The plan s most ambitious proposal, the three percent annual refurbishment rate for public buildings, is already heavily attacked by most Member States. Against this background, Europe s energy efficiency industry has launched the Renovate Europe campaign with the objective of trebling deep renovation rates of Europe s existing building stock. The campaign is lead by EuroACE and wants to raise awareness at all levels about the need that any energy policy must start with reducing the energy demand of buildings. Kilde: PU Europe Newsletter 3-2011 (ThB) First European guideline sets uniform standards for ETICS The European Association for ETICS (EAE) has achieved one of its most important goals since its foundation in 2008: at the Association s General Meeting in London at the start of April, the first ever European Guideline for the Application of ETICS was presented to EAE members in the form of a master guideline. ETICS is the abbreviation for External Thermal Insulation Composite System and is used internationally in this form as standard. Kilde: http://www.ea-etics.eu/content/pictures/home/etics.pdf (CU) Fire performance of SIPs Sustainable Buildings Division of Communities and Local Government commissioned BRE to carry out a project titled The Performance in Fire of Structural Insulated Panel Systems. Structural insulated panel systems (SIPs) are being increasingly used in the UK. The market is driven by the ease and speed of construction and the energy efficiency of the system. Structural insulated panels are prefabricated lightweight building units, used as principal load bearing components in residential and light industrial construction. They are currently used for residential single or multi-occupancy buildings up to four storeys high. A structural insulated panel consists of two high density face layers bonded both sides to a low density, cellular core substrate. The structural bond between the layers is essential in providing the required load bearing capacity of the panel. The face layers may be cement or gypsum based boards or wood based boards such as oriented strand board (OSB). The materials used for the core substrate range from synthetic rigid foam cores such as extruded or expanded polystyrene, polyurethane, polyisocyanurate to inorganic mineral fibres. Most currently available structural insulated panels have been subject to 2
a national technical approval. This generally includes fire resistance testing. However, the damage sustained by a structure beyond the declared fire resistance time is not typically assessed and so the post-fire stability of structures is not addressed directly through standard fire resistance testing. Therefore, there was a need to undertake a research project in collaboration with manufacturers to establish the relationship between the results from standard fire tests and performance under realistic conditions. The project has identified collapse of the floor as the predominant mode of failure of the building systems tested as part of this work programme based on fire penetration into the floor/ceiling void and combustion of the oriented strand board webs of the engineered floor joists leading to loss of load bearing capacity and runaway deflection. PU Europe explained the specific situation of the spray foam sector to the consultants andparticipates in the Commission stakeholder group. Oeko-Tex laboratories agreed to accept a ph up to 9.0 for PU foam. TCPP and melamine are approved as most important flame retardants for polyurethane foam. The switch from CertiPUR to Certi-PUR Oeko-Tex tested is foreseen for the second half of 2011. Kilde EP EM Newsletter 1, April 2011 (SS) EM Harmonization of Test Methods Polyurethane parts for the automotive industry have to comply with very narrow specifications that are measured according to standardized test methods. OEM s, however, often use test procedures which are not harmonized to define the characteristics of the various car parts, i.e. several car manufacturers use different test conditions to achieve finally the same goal to provide a good seat comfort over the lifetime of a car. This makes testing complicated, time-consuming and costly. Euro-Moulders have started a project to harmonize the humid ageing tests conditions. Hence, TDI- and MDI-based foams as well as hot cure parts are tested at the Kunststoff-Zentrum Leipzig under different test conditions in order to define the best procedure. Results of this study will be presented to the OEMs by end of May 2011. A final WG consultation took place on the version of pren13165 (Thermal insulation products for buildings Factory made rigid polyurethane foam (PU) products Specifications), which will be presented to the TC88 editing committee in July and then forwarded to CEN for the Formal Vote procedure. The WG is finalising an explanatory note regarding the proposed walkability test method. ISOPA launches second generation of Walk the Talk ISOPA launched the second generation of its Walk the Talk (WtT) Product Stewardship Programme. This new initiative will complement its predecessor by also focusing on the implementation of the REACH and CLP provisions. WtT aims at improving safety, health and environmental standards across the European PU industry. Since 2006, ISOPA member companies have been visiting hundreds of production plants throughout Europe to address the importance of product stewardship and the safe use of diisocyanates and polyols. The initiative is now available in 24 languages. To address the challenging regulatory landscape, WtT 2nd Generation is offering a specific package for Europe, which provides assistance and a base training on the safe use of diisocyanates and polyols whilst at the same time focusing on REACH compliance. The packages of both WtT and WtT 2nd Generation, as well as a REACH communication toolkit are available on the ISOPA website (www.isopa.org) Status REACh og esds De første udvidede sikkerheds datablade; esds er begyndt at dukke op. Det har betydet, at det normale SDS, som vi kender det, er blevet udvidet betydeligt, så man nu kan opleve esds på 70 sider! Det er et meget broget billede, der tegner sig, fordi der ikke overordnet fra ECHA s side er en fælles skabelon for udformning af esds. Det betyder naturligvis, at det for den enkelte kunde er en udfordring at læse dette esds. Og læses det skal det, for man er iht. REACh forpligtet til at sørge for, at ens anvendelser er dækket i esds, ellers må stoffet ikke anvendes. Anvendelserne kommunikeres via de såkaldte "use descriptors" og eksponerings scenarier, og kræver en indsats at sætte sig ind i. Der er løbende diskussioner i diverse fora om det hensigstmæssige i at få ensartet esds, men det er naturligvis et langt sejt træk, der skal til, men absolut ønskværdigt. (EL) New ISOPA explanatory paper on MDI safety data sheets PU producers are faced with vast amounts of information contained in the extended Safety Data Sheets (esds) as provided by their MDI suppliers, and the Draft Exposure Scenarios available on the ISOPA website. They will have to meet a deadline of 6 or 12 months after reception of the esds to conclude whether their use is covered (or not) according to article 39 of REACH. With a view to facilitating this task, ISOPA prepared an explanatory paper covering MDI / TDI and NLP Polyols and made it available to all downstream users. Kilde: PU Europe Newsletter 3-2011. (ThB) HSE 4 Foreninger, møter & konferanser Årsmøtet i PUR gruppen, Norsk Industri Den norske PUR gruppen avholdt sitt årsmøte i Fredrikstad 5. - 6. mai. På dag 1 var det et faglig program i forkant av selve årsmøtet, med fokus på problemstillinger som for tiden opptar mykt- og
stivt PUR skum bransjen. Karolina Storesund fra SINTEF, Norges Branntekniske Laboratorium redegjorde for et prosjekt som nå gjennomføres for Direktoratet for samfunnssikkerhet og beredskap (DSB), hvor også helse- og miljøeffekter skal utredes i forbindelse med foreliggende forslag om skjerpede brannkrav til møbler og madrasser. SINTEF skal fremlegge sin prosjektrapport ved årsskiftet. Bjørn Vik gikk gjennom gjeldende regelverk på vegne av Klima- og forurensningsdirektoratet (KLIF) og Jan Olav Hjermann fra Weber Saint-Gobain orienterte om FoU-aktiviteter i sitt konsern, med vekt på Leca Isoblokk og anvendelsen av dette produktet. Johannes Håskjold orienterte om saker som er på agendaen i EUROPUR og Thomas Brønnum holdt et tilsvarende innlegg om PU Europe. På dag 2 inviterte Weber Leca Borge til en særdeles interessant omvisning på den nye Isoblokk fabrikken. Bjørn Vik ble gjenvalgt som styreleder for nok et år, og representerer både BA8 og Saint-Gobain Byggevarer (Leca) i denne forbindelse. (BV) PUR-gruppens årsmöte på SP Sveriges Tekniska Forskningsinstitut i Borås Under 2010 tilkom fyra nya medlemmar. Sammentaget ger det ett antal av 32 medlemmar vid åretsutgång. Mötet enades om att ändra dokument Arbetsordning PUR-gruppen enligt det föreslag som presenterades. Förslag om att anlita extern konsulent för att genomföra aktivitetsplan som presenterades på höstmötet i Göteborg godkändes av mötet. Styrelsen skall styra vilka projekt som skall genomföres och projektstart. Till styrelsesordförande för 1 år valdes Roger Hwatz, BASF Polyurethanes Nordic AB. (RH) Årsmødet i den danske PUR-sektion PUR-sektionens årsmøde blev afholdt på Nyborg Strand 26. maj 2011. Temadagen i tilknytning til årsmødet er omtalt ovenfor. Da der var genvalg over hele linjen, fortsætter bestyrelsen for PURsektionen med uændret sammensætning med Ole Jungshoved, Nortec-Cannon A/S, som sektionens formand.
