The use of second screen in The X Factor An important part of the live shows in The X Factor is the viewer involvement. The viewers of the program can vote for their favourite contestants and thereby along with the judges - decide which ones that get to stay in the program and ultimately which contestant or contestants that will win the contest. The producers of The X Factor have created an app where you can be the fifth judge and rate the performances in real-time. You can also vote for the contestants on the app for free, so that you do not have to call a specific number to vote (or send a text message as you do in the Danish version of the program). Research has shown that a lot of people watching these kinds of reality television shows are using a second screen. That means they are using their smartphone, laptop or tablet while watching the television program on their TV. Therefore in order to catch the full attention of the viewer, the producers have created content for the second screen that many of the viewers are using. This way the viewers get involved in the television program both via their television and via their second screen. Have you used a second screen while watching a television program?
