4 ERIP: Lean Management a Japanese post World War 2 industrial achievement, subject of much research Lean Thinking (1983) Lean is the set of "tools" that assist in the identification and steady elimination of waste As waste is eliminated quality improves while production time and cost are reduced Lean Manufacturing, Lean Services, Lean Leadership.

5 ERIP: Lean Management Many initiatives have tried to replicate the same levels of performance in Europe but with low levels of success. The rapid development of India and China as well as other Asian countries is resulting in severe economic pressure on manufacturing companies within the European Community (EU) to improve their capabilities apply Lean Management

6 ERIP: Results Objective of the project is to make quantifiable productivity improvements in SMEs with staff of less than 150. The methodology developed will be published for access by all of Europe. develop and implement innovative concepts, strategies, measures and pilot projects in order to enhance and sustainable improve the productivity of companies by transferring the tacit knowledge of lean manufacturing and stimulating strong transnational cross-sector engagement around this

7 ERIP: Objectives The main vehicle for the method development will be a network of Innovative Productivity Centres (IPC) who will coordinate regional activity with regard to tester companies and the involvement of exemplar companies. Each involved country will set up one IPC. The six IPCs will form a network to secure transnational transfer of knowledge and best practise

11 ERIP: Role of the Hanse Parlament Mainly involved in Work Package 7, Dissemination - effectively communicate the project results and outputs to a range of targeted audience to: - raise awareness of the project - to trigger actual change and uptake in the application of lean change methodology

12 ERIP: Role of Hanseatic Parliament - Transfer among the 44 member organisations, Business Chambers and SME Organisations, in 11 BSR countries - Among 10 Universities of the Baltic Sea Academy - At least 2 conferences on Lean Management, information event in the beginning, conference & workshops at the end to transfer results and experiences of IPCs
