BRIEFHISTORY 1 TheDBDLIisanAfricentricinstitutethatcreates educationalchangeforlearnersofafricanancestryto empowerthem toreachtheirfulpotential. Improvingeducationalexperiences, opportunitiesandoutcomesfornova ScotianlearnersofAfricanancestry. TheDelmore Buddy DayeLearningInstitute(DBDLI)wasfoundedasa directresultoftheworkdonebytheblacklearnersadvisorycommitee (BLAC),establishedin1990bytheprovincialgovernmenttoensurean AfricentricapproachtoAfricanNovaScotian/AfricanCanadianeducation. TheDBDLIisacommunity-mindedorganizationthatiscommitedto communitydevelopment,engagementandyouthleadershipthatactswith integrityandtransparencywithclients,partners,andthecommunitiesthey serve. Theprovince-widemandateoftheInstitutefocusesoneducational excelenceforlearnersofafricanancestryinnovascotiabyidentifying andaddressingthegapsandeducationalequityissuesthroughresearch, publications,andeducationalresources. Weprioritizedtheissues,clearlyarticulatedwhatmustbeachieved anddeterminedwhoisaccountabletoachieveourdefined objectives.

TheDelmore Buddy DayeLearningInstituterecognizesthatlifelonglearning isanimportantpartofanylearnersgrowthanddevelopment.lifelonglearningnot onlyenhancessocialinclusion,activecitizenship,andpersonaldevelopment, butalsoself-sustainability.itcanenhanceunderstandingoftheworldaround us,providebeteropportunities,improveourqualityoflifeandstrenghtenthe skilsneedtoexcelintheworkingworld. Inthisplan,wepresentthewayswewilengagewiththecommunitytogarner theirinputontheeducationissuesthatneedtobeaddressed.wearewelaware thattheissueswilneedtobeclearlydefined.ourrecommendationswil besupportedbysoundresearchthatpromotethesuccessofnova ScotianlearnersofAfricanancestry. Afocusonourongoingprioritiesinyouth,research,publications, communityengagementandsustainability,wearepositionedtohaveamajor impactoverthedurationofthenext3yearsandbeyond!
